FS#1005 - Making use of mouse buttons configurable

According to the help, one requires a middle mouse to pan. Since few standard mice have middle buttons, this is a poor choice for this all important function. The default should be the right mouse button when ever the mouse is placed in an open area with nothing else to select. That way right click can still be used to invoke a pop down menu when ever the mouse is placed over an object that might have a need for pop down menu options. Additionally, the Pan mouse key should be alterable and selectable from a Preferences option, since if one does have a three button mouse, we should not prevent a user from employing this hardware if they have it. The same might be said for all mouse buttons to allow the user to configure the mouse operation to that which is most comfortable and efficient for their tasks.

25.10.2022 : A task closure has been requested. Reason for request: Nowadays most common are mice with middle wheel-button. Configurable by App.Prefs. Regards, CVH.

Strongly disagree. Middle mouse is used for panning by everything (except gqview, shall it rest in peace). It is *the* natural default choice for panning. (Just look up the single most requested feature for KiCad. Or what a vocal subset of the Intarwebs has been whining about wrt. Photoshop.)

Make it configurable? Maybe. (I don't know how feasible it is, considering mouse button actions are used all over the place.) Make something else as the default pan trigger? Hell no.

If there was a downvote task option, I'd be middle-clicking it furiously :)

I've changed this to a feature request for making mouse behavior more configurable.

I've also lowered the priority since this would break an important part of the QCAD user interface: The right mouse button is used in QCAD to go back one step - which is a rather important concept of QCAD and a conscious design choice.
