Many times I’m faced with the situation that I have to use a rectangle related to other entities. Dimensions/Angle = unknown.

We have in QCAD a rectangle tool with a two point diagonal determination but this is limited to two points and it will only work in a horizontal and vertical direction.

My feature request is based on the idea to draw a rectangle with 3 points - regardless the angle.

1. First point: start

2. second point: determination of the first side (width?) and it will also provide the angle for the rectangle

3. third point: determination second side (height?)

I’m asking for an additional new tool? No - just as an option to the existing rectangle tool ...

So basically, add a rotation field for angle ?

No - the first and second point will provide the angle for the rectangle.

So a Polar coord field ?

No - please check the attached pictures and try to imagine to draw the white rectangle just with your PC mouse.
#1 = first click, #2 = second click, #3 = third click with the left mouse button. And you can use the snap function for all those clicks .... ;-)

So on the 3rd click you are determining the angle by manually locating a point related to another entity to set the final angle ?

Sounds okay, but you might as well have an extra field for angle input as well, in circumstances where you might need to be specific and not set the angle related to an existing entity ;)

OK - now we are no longer talking about a simple 3 point rectangle tool.
Yes I would also like to have an extra field for angle input but then - we have to go the whole hog!

NOW I like to have 3 tools ... :-)

1. A new rectangle tool, 3 points, free angle (as described),
2. Modifying the existing 2 point "Rectangle tool"(RE) with an option box "restricted" to x, y or not (= free rotation),
3. Modifying the existing "Rectangle with size tool"(RS) with an additional option to use a given angle value or to keep the orientation restricted to x,y
