FS#1093 - Edit Layer attributes by double-clicking on entry in layer list

When double clicking on an entry in the layer list just nothing happens.
I would prefer if this would directly open the layer attributes dialog to change color/name etc.

26.10.2022 : A task closure has been requested. Reason for request: Implemented as the proposed compromise with/without selection.

Please note that double-clicking on a layer actually moves the current selection to that layer:

  1. Select a line on layer 'A'
  2. Double-click layer 'B'
  3. Line is now on layer 'B'

If nothing is selected, the double-click could arguably do something else (e.g. show the layer attributes) if that's not confusing.

An alternative might be to use the property editor to edit layer properties if no entities are selected. I.e. show the properties of the current layer if there is no selection instead of displaying an empty property editor.

Please let me know what you think...

I must admit I overlooked (again) that double-clicking moves the current selection to the selected layer.
So I'm not sure if using double clicking also to edit the layer properties could confuse people who are used to this shortcut.
Personally, I think that it's better to get some reaction instead of no reaction. But then again, I didn't even know that this shortcut existed.
Anyway, I could totally live with the alternative suggestion. I think it makes a lot of sense to use the property editor for the layer instead of displaying "no selection".

As a side note: honestly I would prefer to have a menu option to move or copy a selection to a different layer. I wouldn't exclude though that it exists and I just didn't find it.

My two cents on this request:

I would also prefer to be able to change the layer attributes with a double click on the particular layer in the layer list!
That is what is a common Windows behavior and it works nicely with the block list. I miss this function in the Layer List.

Moving a selection with a double click is in my opinion more confusing because I don't see actually what happened if I don't have the knowledge of this functionality. There is no confirmation in the Command line etc..

I would like to see the double click for the layer attributes more than the move possibility. I think a selection with using the Property Editor to move that to another layer is more plausible.

On the other hand a compromise could be done (two functions):
1. Selection + Double click on the layer moves the selection to an other layer and I get some kind of confirmation,
2. No selection + double click on the layer in the layer list opens the Layer attribute dialog.

What do you think?
