Would it be possible to have the choice to dock or not dock toolbars - in other words keep them floating, an additional option in the tool settings could be added?

You should be able to drag toolbars away from the main window to make them floating. QCAD should also remember this between sessions.
Is that not the case or do you mean something different?

I mean to keep them floating even if you move them into a corner, currently if you do this they are pulled into it and are docked!

OK, thanks for the clarification.

A good example of this is when I'm working on a drawing and I am using the view list, well normally I do not dock this list I just leave it floating and use the View widget to open or close the list when needed, but sometimes because of space I move the view list over towards the far left or far right of my working area in QCAD and it gets dragged into and docked instead of just floating!
