I like this feature request. Quite often I find that snapping to grid gets in the way and in order to snap to an entity, particularly 'middle', excessive zooming in and out is required to avoid snapping to a grid point. Perhaps it could be a check box in Drawing Preferences>Snap Auto Settings?

+1 when you hide the grid, the autosnap continue to snap the invisible grid and i think the grid is just hide, not deactivate, maybe the performance can be better if qcad deactivate the calculation of grid spacing...

Workaround: you can configure the grid spacing to be e.g. 10000 / 10000 which leaves you with basically one grid point at 0/0.

It would be nice to have some options to configure auto snap. For example the ability to disable grid snap (as stated above), the ability to enable snap on entry, center of a circle ( FS#257 ) etc.

The solution could be to hide the manual snap options when auto snap is enabled and vice versa.
There could be a switch for auto/fixed(manual) and then checkboxes for the modes.

galio: see Edit - Application Preferences - Snap - Auto Snap (QCAD 3.1.1)

Ah perfect, that works great.

Anyways you could consider to hide the the fixed snap options when auto snap is activated.
You could add a button that links to Edit - Application Preferences - Snap - Auto Snap directly.

In the end just the switch for auto/fixed, the button that links to edit Auto Snap settings, the ortho settings and the relative zero options would be visible when auto is activated.
Should i add this as a separate feature request so you can think about if it makes sense?

Please note that QCAD deliberately offers many choices to the user in its user interface. This is intended to encourage (new) users to find the exactly right tool for their task.

If tools and options are hidden too well, users tend to think there might be no such option or tool and might opt for an unnecessary, more complicated solution.
I find myself using fixed object snaps quite often, if things are too dense for auto snap or to snap to center points or arcs / circles.

If you can elaborate on why you intend to hide fixed snaps, maybe I understand your idea a bit better.
