FS#691 - Image preview for "Insert Bitmap" ...
If I like to import a Bitmap in my drawing I have no possibility to choose a file by a thumbnail bitmap preview. In many cases it is really helpful and I assume it is a sort of standard ....
Icon previews are created by the operating system's file dialog, not QCAD.
Interesting - ALL other application on my OS are working flawless with an icon preview. Only QCAD doesn't even offer an Icon preview - only List or a Detail view. And that is based to my OS?
Yes, unless the preference Edit > Application Preferences > File > Load/Save > Use system file dialog is unchecked, the system's file dialog should be used. Perhaps you can post a screen shot of your file dialog here if you think this is not correct.
"Use system file dialog" checked or unchecked doesn't matter on my XP System. I never noticed any changes after playing around with this setting.

OK, thanks. This seems to be the normal behaviour for Qt 4.x which is still being used for QCAD 32bit for Windows.
Updating the 32bit package to Qt 5 (like the 64bit package) is currently not an option as it would likely mean to drop support for Windows XP altogether: https://wiki.qt.io/Qt-5.6.0-tools-and-versions
Thanks for explanation
