FS#811 - Rectangle(RE) with a defined x,y coordinate start point doesn't works correctly ...

QCAD 3.0 / 3.1

Test case:
set relative zero,
choose rectangle RE tool,
choose snap tool coordinate,
Now QCAD is asking for the x,y coordinates and my thinking was it will just use them for the start point (what I’m looking for!) - but .... QCAD will use the given coordinates for the Start point of the rectangle(right!) AND as size for the rectangle(wrong!) ;-)

I can see what is probably happening here:

  1. Set relative zero.
  2. Choose rectangle tool (RE).
  3. Choose snap tool coordinate.
  4. Enter: x: 20, y: 10 [x] Relative
  5. Confirm (press enter key or click green tick button).
    • The start point is now set at 20,10, relative to the relative zero point.
    • Since the coordinate snap tool is still active, a preview is shown for the next coordinate being entered as @20,10 as well. This is correct behavior since the currently entered relative coordinate is @20,10, which would indeed produce a rectangle size 20/10. Note that this is just a preview of what would happen if you would confirm the relative coordinate @20,10 again.
  6. Choose another snap tool at this point or enter another relative coordinate to set the other corner of the rectangle.

I see - not a bug. Only my lack of attention!

Anyway - the dialog of this function isn't clear to realize for a user(or maybe just for me!). If I need and decide to draw a rectangle without a given size I don't expect that this tool will keep the x,y snap function for the second rectangle point. Also it is only asking for the x - y value - it is not asking for the width and hight like the "Rectangle with size" Tool dialog. Confusing! Same story with "Line from two Points, or Circle center+point". I think those tools should kill the snap coordinate function and have to switch automatically back to the free or auto snap function after it is used for one time. Just my two cents ...

Thanks for the input.
In the end, it's probably the same old problem as always: the software cannot know what the user intends to do.

I think it's important that the coordinate snap tool stays on for the following use case:
The user wants to draw a series of consecutive lines.
E.g. 10 to the right, 5 up, 7.5 to the left, etc.
User would have to switch the coordinate snap tool on again for each point if the snap tool would not stay on.
For the rectangle tool, this kind of use is less likely. However, each tool should behave the same for consistency reasons.
