FS#889 - Filter the current selection to only include entities of a certain type
The property editor should do,
if I change
Selection: All(xx)
by Filtering by Entity Type
Selection: Circle(xx)
only the selected enteties(in this case the circles) should be selected, so we will be able to copy, delete ... directly
Please note that this would prevent other use cases of the property editor. A user might for example:
Since this suggestion would destroy the original selection, this use case would no longer be possible.
I think the use case of wanting to 'filter the current selection to only include entities of a certain type' should be a separate tool. Using the property editor for this might seem logical for users who are using the property editor a lot. However, a new user who wants to reduce an existing selection to only include circles will likely not look in the property editor for such a tool. The tool should be accessible through the selection menu instead.
Yes I can see an advantage of having an extra selection tool to select - by 'entity type', a tool like this would be be most useful if you needed to select e.g. Circles from a whole bunch of other entities either on the same/different layers !
How about a new selection tool that offers a working sequence something like:
1.First select initial entity type.
2.Then choose either:
- select all within range (all Circles of all sizes).
Or select
- select all with same properties.
For me at the moment if I am in this situation I am using either the 'selection widget' (by smf) or I simply select all and use the property editor to filter the selection and put on a new layer.
Yep - I agree with both of you. An extra selection tool would be nice!
