This bugs me since a long time but I wasn’t able to reproduce it ..... till now!

My Dim Label font for new drawings (Application Preferences) is set to “Helvetica-Bold” Basically it was working just fine for new drawings but from time to time, after saving and reopen my drawing, the font was lost and replaced by “Standard”. No idea why!

Today I was playing with the new QCAD Feature “Default Template” and learned that I loose all the time my preselected font. QCAD ignores that my Template “Drawing Preferences” and also the “Application Preferences” are set to “Helvetica-Bold”. It will be replaced by “Standard”. Annoying!

Ok, question was why it doesn’t happened with all drawings, all the time?
After many tests ....
The “old” blank Template opens with the correct font setting. If I use a Dim in the drawing and save it everything works as expected.
If I save the drawing without a Dim in it then the preselected Font will be replaced by “Standard”. It happens also if I delete all Dims in a so far proper working drawing - save and reopen it leads to the same issue. The Font will be replaced by “Standard”.

The new feature “your own Default Template” will not work regarding the Dim Label font in any cases - the template itself needs at least one Dim in the drawing to keep the desired Font.

The Selection Filter doesn’t works proper with a Line / Continuous combination. Example drawing has Linetype by Layer and not by Layer

Hi,

if I use the “Print current view” tool for a Landscape format - everything works just nicely!
If I use it for a Portrait print - the scale is way of.

For this example I used a rectangle as reference. The details what I’m looking for are captured with same sized red rectangles. The Paper orientation was changed before I used the Print command. To have the maximum view I select the rectangle and used “Zoom to selection” - then Print to current view.

often I’m in the situation that I have to create an additional Layer mostly based on the settings from an already existing Layer. Just a question of organization. This new Layer has then everything identical except the name and one(?) Attribute. This could be that only the color or the Line weight deviates.

Example:

Existing Layer

Layer name: Lot 47 area existing

Attributes

Color: Red

Lineweight: 0.35

Linetype: Dashed

New Layer

Layer name: Lot 47 area proposal

Attributes

Color: Blue

Lineweight: 0.35

Linetype: Dashed

Unfortunately if done manually it happens in an blink of an eye that the human imperfection (me!) makes a mistake and (e.g.) a “Center (.5x)” finds it way into the Linetype Field instead of a “Center (.2x)” ....

The workaround for a few User is to use in cases like this the Property Editor / General Property and customize single Attributes. In my opinion the first step to lose the control over your own drawing ...

A “Copy Layer” / Copy Layer Attributes” function would speed up this task and eliminate to a minimum the “human imperfection” factor.

I could imagine that a right click (like copy block) on the Layer triggers the “Add Layer” function and the dialog is already prefigured with the Settings of the Source Layer ...... ready for editing.
The new Layer itself is “empty” like any other new Layer.

Case:
Drawing in mm with Entries in the View List,
Convert (CU) drawing from mm to inch,
View List still exist but has lost the coordinates for each defined window,

Case:
Existing Leader with Arrow status “yes” in drawing,
launch “Convert Drawing Unit”,
convert drawing unit,
Leader status for Arrow “yes” is now changed to “no”,

... just cosmetic!

The Option drop down list for rotations (e.g. Paste etc) shows all steps incremental for every 15 degree - but 15 and 345 degree are missing.

I’m happy that we don’t have bigger problems!!!

if I create in a new drawing a layer list and use the Show all Layers / Hide all Layers function everything works as expected.

If I hide one or more Layers individually and directly in the Layer List (click on the Eye) I can’t make them visible with the Show all Layer function. It looks like individual hidden Layer are protected with a higher priority.

If I load an “old” drawing all individual settings for a hidden Layer are with a higher priority than Show all Layers. If I click every single Eye for each Layer to make them visible then I’m again able to toggle the visibility for all Layer in once.

I miss one Offset option to use an offset indirectly related to the used entity. Right now I have to work with further construction lines and trim, divide, delete etc. tools to archive what I need.
Basically an offset as a ray would be enough but unfortunately we have no control of the Ray orientation.
This said - it would be nice to have an infinitive line added to the “Offset Polyline Segment” option to be able to use an Offset as construction line which is not only reflecting the shape of the source.

I tried to hatch an area and the Reference Manual said all entities can be used but it doesn’t works at my example. Did I missed something?

The test drawing shows at the top the goal with exploded polylines. At the bottom I have rectangles (Polylines, drawn with the Rectangle tool) what is unfortunately not working.

Select entities,
launch the Layer tool: Create Layer from Selection,
change your mind - cancel this tool,

QCAD moves - regardless the cancellation - all selected entities to the active layer.

... in dependence to the used Units.

I have notice this behavior a couple times before but wasn’t sure what is the trigger for that. Now I figured out one (I’m sure there are more) scenario which shows the effect:

New drawing,
Drawing preferences;
Drawing Units:
Meter,
Meter,
Metric,

Printing Page:
ISO A4

Print Preview:

Auto fit drawing to page - fails to calculate the scale,
Auto fit pages to drawing - fails also ...

Counter test:
same drawing - change Paper Unit to mm,
Reset Paper size to A4 ...

... and it works flawless

... even if it wasn’t used in the saved drawing.

Print “Command Line” and as “Add measurement to drawing” works as expected.

Text - Only simple text is possible. Checked or unchecked option “Simple Text” will not change this. Reboot QCAD after changing shows also no effect.

My settings for Coordinate Format: Decimal Point = Dot

Accidentally using a comma instead of a dot in a value field leads to a wrong result without any warning.

Test:

Using the “Rectangle with Size” tool accidentally with a comma will not trigger a warning (red text) and it will draw a wrong sized rectangle.
It seems to me that QCAD is using the after comma value to draw this rectangle.
Given value 30,5 by 50,7 leads to a rectangle 5 by 7
Crazy values like 1.,.35 by 71.,.75 are also accepted and leads to a rectangle size of 35 by 75 without any warning.
A crazy value like 71.,..75 will finally trigger a red text warning!

Counter test horiz. Line: Value 100,25 leads to a line with 25 in length.
Value 100.25 leads to a line with 100.25 in length.

Using the same tools with the correct separator will work as expected!

Same game with most of all other tools which are asking for a given value. No warning at all - just wrongly accomplished.

If I launch the CE edition / do nothing with the empty default drawing and then try to terminate QCAD an unexpected warning pops up:

Do you want to save the changes you made in ‘Untitled 1’ ...

Hey - I haven’t change anything and there is nothing what needs to be saved ...

If I try to draw a circle between two little circles with a radius (e.g.) of 3000 the tool shows me only two possibility’s - but there are much more. If I make a counter test with the tool “2 Tangents with Point” all possibility’s are correct shown.

“Autotrim” ignores status on invisible and/or blocked layer and will still trim along invisible entities.

Open drawing and Auto Zoom will also use invisible Blocks for the displayed Zoom Factor.

After saving an open designed Spline QCad will open it the next time as a closed spline.
Trying to fix this in the Property Manager using “Closed Periodic yes/no” leads to an open but broken spline.

I defined new attributes in a 3.11.0 drawing. I can’t get it working.
I loaded an old drawing, knowing that there are working attribute in - there are not anymore working in 3.11.0

Synchronize Attributes doesn’t helps to solve the problem.

Black and white/Greyscale mode doesn’t works on Text.

Scenario 1:
like to use “Breakout segment” on a spline,
Status bar tells me that I CAN use this tool on a spline,
Breakout: works,
Undo: works,
Everything fine ...

Scenario 2:
like to use “Breakout manual” on a spline,
Status bar tells me NOT to use this tool on a spline but ...
Breakout manual: works,
Undo: works,
I think just the status bar needs an Infotext update.

Scenario 3:
like to use “Auto Trim” on a spline,
Status bar tells me NOT to use this tool on a spline but ...
Auto Trim: works,
Undo: works NOT,
I think the status bar needs an Infotext update and I guess in the undo function is a bug.

Please double check the functionality of the Print options - I think that there are not correct working.

Move Paper position = OK,
Autofit drawing to paper = out of center, wrong scale
Autofit pages to drawing = to many pages are used,
Auto center = out of center,

Break out segment / Auto trim again arc is not a sharp cut to the arc (to long or to short),
Break out manual can’t snap to a line/arc intersection,

The QCAD Community Edition isn’t able to read / import dxf files with a German “Umlaut” like ä,ö, ü in the dxf file name.
If I change the file name from a “ä” into a “ae” QCAD CE will open the file flawless.

Zooming in or out repeatedly (keeping + or - key pressed or using mouse wheel) shows the drawing at incorrect offsets in between frames with the correct offset.

Zoom in and out with the Mouse wheel is working but it is unfortunately jumping in a zickzack course.

If I try to use the Selection Filter to find Lines regarding to the used Angle it fails in many cases.

In my test drawing you can see that I’m able to select Lines with an 0° Angle but I’m not able to select any of the other lines with e.g. an 45° / 90° 180° or 315° etc. angle.

- Modify > Explode

Default settings (Application preferences) for “Printing colors” shows no effect on a “Grayscale” or a “Black and white” setting.
Regardless the setting a new drawing is always presented with a “Full color” adjustment.

Yes - it is only cosmetic but it is also stealing space in the Toolbar.

Would be nice to have them removed.

“Paste Along Entity”

- Menü/Bearbeiten,
- Applikationseinstellungen/Werkzeugeinstellungen,

Snap to “Intersection manual” is only working in dependency on Line/Polyline orientation.

Two Polylines (not each other crossing): doesn’t works.

One Line, one Polyline (not each other crossing) works only in dependency on entity orientation.

The new tool “Paste along entity” is very useful! But I work mostly in mechanical engineering and would like to see more options to determine where it has to start with the first insert item.

Screenshot:

1. That is how it works right now - no chance to get it started on both ends of an line.

2. If I need to have my items also on the ends I have to use additional the normal “Paste” function.

3. If I could tell the “Paste along entity” that there is a start and end “Base” dimension then I’m a big step further.

I could tell the tool that it has to start at “0” or at “25” and the rest is just regarding the calculation. Correct?

However - you need many times in mechanical engineering etc. a hole pattern which will start at:

0,25,25,25,25,25,25,25,25,0

or

25, 123.5, 123.5, 123.5, 123.5, 123.5, 25

It would be very nice to have this also in combination with the “Paste along entity” tool

At closed Polygons: Chamfer / Bevel / Round tools are not proper working at the Start/End corner transition.

... except reference points I can’t anymore snap to any line on a Dimension. To make a proper alignment I need to use the Grid or other entities.

Äquidistante:
Spelling correction: “Polyline” instead of “Polzlinie” ...

“Zoom to selection” shows no effect on vertical and horizontal lines: Message: “No selection found”.

Recognizable at:
vertical lines, horizontal lines,
Rectangle, Rectangle with size,
Polygon Center Point, Polygon two corner (only in the case that you have vertical/horizontal lines),

Shapes as a polyline - no problem.

QCAD Pro / Deutsch

Hi,

if I have an arc and use the Property Editor to get the Geometrical information I always miss the total angle of the arc.

Yes - I have the Start and the End angle but to get the Total angle I have to draw construction lines to be able to use the Angular Dim or Info angle tool /or I need to use a pocket calculator ...

It would be nice to have this calculated by QCAD - I assume it can’t be that difficult to design an extra field which will display, based on the start and end angle, the total angle of an arc.

What do you think?

The Linetype Names in the pull-down menu for Layer are hardly readable - it seams to me that the description is used twice (in different ways) in each row.
Till 3.6.4 the Information was short and clear.

QCAD start,
Application Preferences:
Units: inch
Dim: Fractions

Changed the Drawing Preferences to:
Units: mm
Dim: Decimal

Design a Dim and it will be created with the mm/Deci settings - as expected,

Select now the Dim - activate the ISO Tool - the try to determine the reference point fails / it’s way of the clicked point and now the produced ISO Projection will use the attributes for DIM’s from the “Application Preferences” setting - hmmmmmmm, not as expected

I can’t find any documentation (Reference Manual / Book) about the possibility to change the “corner” transition shape for Spline’s (Control Points) with multiple mouse clicks.
1, 2 or 3 clicks = smooth to sharp corner.

If I use the Copy/Cut with Reference Clipboard function I can’t use the “Coordinate” or “Polar coordinate” snap to determine the reference point.
I have the feeling that just the option box isn’t shown ....

Exploding a usual block - no problems.
Exploding a dimension - it will freeze the explode tool until I reset the tool or use another tool. New drawing / old drawing doesn’t matter.
