Hi Andrew,

we know that you need to have always software performance in your mind to decide which features / tools can / should be implemented and on which way.

I really appreciate your effort to find the best middle way between software features and performance but I think also it’s a tough call to appraise worldwide the overall customer equipment to make the software workable to the best for everybody. That isn’t possible without compromise.

Maybe it would make sense to think about a new dialog in the “Application Preferences” to let the user decide what kind of feature are absolutely needed regarding to his/her work-task / equipment. I don’t mean that you need to cover every single thing but the main “performance jeopardy’s” should be covered with an on/off switch.

Yes I know - that isn’t done in 5 minutes but I think that can make your life easier in the long run and will cover even more customer.

Text and/or DIM used in blocks will be mirrored if inserted with a vertical/horizontal flip option.

Text/DIM which was successfully used in previos QCAD versions are now mirrored if they are loaded in the current version.

Version 3.23.0 doesn’t shows this behavior.

When I modify partly a DIM with “Stretch” or changing one Extension line position with drag and drop the Value text is updated which is nice working. Unfortunately the previous value stays in place and is overwritten by the actual value. I think for a good readability the previous value should disappear in the moment when the new value is presented.

e.g: If I use content out of the clipboard to insert it multiple times into the drawing with using the Middle Manual snap [SN] the snap can’t be locked [SQ] and I have to reactivated the snap again and again for every following insert.
Other snaps like END or CENTER work flawless in this scenario.

Reason: Same underlined keys are used for different menus

Select and Snap = S,
Dimension and Info = I,
Modify and Misc = M,

I think it would be nice to have more flexibility for Prefix etc. option (not only the drop down with a given choice) and a remember function for all those fields like postfix and tolerance.

Why Remember Function:
If I use a postfix like <>” in the postfix field I’m only able to use it for this particular dimension type at this time. If I change the type (from Horizontal to vertical or what ever) I have always to repeat my postfix. The same with tolerances.

Beispiel:
Zeichnen einer Linie (Line two points) mit Punktbestimmung.
Wähle ich für die Punktbestimmung z.B. “End” bleibe ich in diesem Modus bis ich etwas anderes wähle. Gut

Wähle ich für die Punktbestimmung “Intersection manual” muss ich dies für jeden Punkt immer wieder neu anwählen. Schlecht

Ziehe ich mit der Maus eine normale Auswahlbox kann ich Elemente markieren.
Möchte ich einzelne Bereiche wieder herausnehmen muss ich alle Elemente einzeln anklicken (mit gedrückter Shift Taste).
Ich kann zwar dies komfortabler gestalten mit der Select → (De -) Select Contour Funktion welche aber erst über das Menue aufgerufen werden muss.

So wie ich einzelne Elemente mit der Maus auswählen und mit der Shift-Maus Funktion deselektieren kann wäre es schön wenn die Shift Taste auch bei Auswahlbereichen direkt zum deselektieren eingesetzt werden könnte.

Es wäre Arbeitserleichternd wenn ich bei den Optionen für Bemaßungen (Prefix/Postfix) eigene Präferenzen speichern könnte so das diese in allen Zeichnungen von mir verfügbar wären.
Zudem wäre es wünschenswert dieses nicht nur bei den Prefix sondern auch bei den Postfix Angaben nutzen zu können was dann alle(?) Manipulationen erschlagen würde.

Eine oft Hilfreiche Zeit/Klick sparende Erweiterung wäre eine “Total” Option bei dem “Lengthen” Tool.

Aktuell ist es mit dieser Funktion möglich ein Element zu verlängern oder zu verkürzen um den Amount X. Der Referenzpunkt (von welchem Ende) kann bestimmt werden.

Die Erweiterung die ich mir wünschen würde wäre auch ein “Total” um ein Element auf eine bestimmte Länge zu bringen ohne einen Taschenrechner benutzen zu müssen. Referenz (welches Ende oder Mitte) sollte (muss) dafür wählbar sein.

Die Funktion “Property editor” stellt bereits über die Geometry Eigenschaften die Möglichkeit zur Verfügung einen “Total” Wert zu manipulieren. Leider bin ich aber hierbei nicht in der Lage zu bestimmen welcher Element Referenzpunkt dafür benutzt werden soll. Könnte ich die Referenz wählen (welches Ende oder Mitte) wäre auch dies dann durchaus akzeptabel

Es wäre schön wenn ich Werte wie zum Beispiel Längen von Linien direkt abgreifen könnte um diese weiter in Berechnungen verwenden zu können.

Beispiel:
Ich habe eine Linie konstruiert wobei sich eine Länge y ergeben hat.

Nun möchte ich eine Linie zeichnen die 5 mal y sein soll.

Linientool → Wert 5* eingeben und y durch Auswahl mit der Maus von dem vorhandenen Elements übernehmen.

Natürlich könnte ich die Geometrie Info benutzen um den Wert abzulesen oder auch über die Zwischenablage zu benutzen. Ein abgreifen mit der Maus wäre aber schneller, direkter und wahrscheinlich auch mit weniger Fehlern (Human error) verbunden. Wahrscheinlich auch genauer da QCad, denke ich, mit mehr Nachkommastellen rechnet, oder?

I would appreciate an option for the library Browser that gives me the possibility to decide by my self to use the current (same name) layer in my drawing or overwrite it with the existing layers in the library item.

Imagine the possibility’s of this feature ....

Wenn ich eine Zeichnung plane überlege ich mir natürlich im Vorfeld welche Blattgröße und welchen Maßstab ich verwenden möchte.

Wenn ich Templates (z.B. Zeichnungsblatt A4) für die Blattgröße öffnen könnte und dabei direkt einen Skalierungsfaktor (z.B. 10) vorgeben könnte hätte ich ohne Umwege gleich alles was man braucht. In diesem Fall ein A4 Blatt im Maßstab 1:10.

Im Grunde genommen das selbe was ich bereits mit Library Items machen kann ...

1. The Scrollbars for each window in the Viewports has the same size like the normal used scrollbars for windows. If you are working on a normal size Monitor it “steals” a lot of “working space”. Is there any possibility to make the scrollbars smaller or just a line to separate the windows so that I have to navigate with Keyboard and mouse?

2. I thing the Viewports and the View List belongs together - is it possible to get a button in the “View List / Tool Bar” to choose a Viewport style instead of “walking” the long way over the “Drawing preferences” Menu?

I think it would be nice to have the possibility to decide a fixed Text and Dimension (inclusive Arrows) height what is not affected by the Print scale. That means: If I have a given height of 3,5mm it will always be printed with 3,5mm - no matter what the scale for the printing is.
Yes, I see also the problem that I could run in space problems after I twitch to the Print preview - but that will also happen when I change the Text hight in the preferences for a 5:1 printing.
Maybe this Feature Request doesn’t looks important if you are usually working with Metric Units but if you have to handle Imperial Units then it is a pain in the back to make always the calculation to get the same heights.
Try it by your self; 3,5mm = 0.137795” = 1”:1” Now I like to print it in 1”:256” ops - to small - ok 1”:64” ... no, to big, maybe 1”:128” .......and QCad can’t remember the previously numbers.

Additional Export function for export/import into 3D Programs like Sketchup etc. (file types like .dae, .3ds, .ddf, .skp).

Task: If I like to make a hatch and the contour isn’t closed I get a Grey circle Info where the contour isn’t closed. Nice!

But ..... I have this Info only for ONE not proper connection and only for the moment when the mouse pointer is over the Hatch Tool Symbol.

If I have to zoom into the Problem - I will lose the Info where the problem is

To get the “Problem Info” back I have to select it again - but for that I have to zoom out ...............

It would be nice to have this “Problem Info” longer in the drawing - maybe until I solved all problems.

And it would be nice to have ALL Infos for not connected lines at the same time. It is not really helpful to repeat this function 20times if I have 20 connection problems ... ;)

It would be nice to get:

In the Create Library Item task → “Save as” a remember Function for the last chosen Path to save the Item ... or a default path what is the same like the settings in the Application Preferences.
Right now you have to navigate again and again for every item what you will save in the same directory. If you have to save 20 items - it sacks

Also would it be nice for an easy “Clean up” to have the possibility to delete items directly in the Library Browser window.
Right now you have to use extern Programs like the Windows explorer to move or delete items.

It is nice that I can scale or rotate a block - but right now I see also a big plus in a kind of locking function for Blocks.
It would be nice to have a “locked” option ad least for the scaling of blocks.

Example: Think about Clives “Radiator ‘Cover’ screen” http://www.qcad.org/rsforum/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=2060 and how you could manipulate this screen with “scale blocked blocks”

It would be nice to have an extra option for the Align tool what provides the possibility to an equal distribution of a selection ...

It would be nice to have an additional Radius Measurement tool with short leads. The current Radius tool shows always the lead line to the center of the radius what is in many cases not useful.

Leader Arrow size and the Architectural tick size are controlled by one and the same value.

It would be nice to get the possibility to adjust them independently from each other ...

Most of our drawings have a Data sheet, parts List, cutting list, description etc etc on a pdf, world or excel file.

It would be nice to have a link possibility directly in QCAD to those files what will be saved with the drawing.
Like the bitmap function without displaying the files in the drawing ...

If I work in QCAD only with Toolbars (and not with the “Cad Tools” there is nowhere a Button to find for “Create Block from selection”.
If I have to create a Block based on a selection I have to work with the Menu or have to activate the Cad Tools.

But, if I look at the Blocklist menu there is a function (+) to add an empty Block. It would be nice to have this button working for both situation - empty Block or depending on a selection to “Create Block from selection”.

Or alternative an additional Button ...

Anyway - in my opinion would that make the “Blocklist” complete.

If I use the mouse-pointer in the Scale tool I’m not able to do an inversely proportional scale.
x - y locked or unlocked doesn’t matter in combine with the mouse pointer ...

It would be nice to have an additional Coordinate tool for isometric constructions.

If I’m working on an isometric drawing I have to design my things with x, y, z coordinates.
Y is, of course not a problem but for x and z I have most off the time to work with construction lines for move, copy, locate etc.
With an isometric coordinate snap tool what will follow the 30° angles for x and z we could save a lot of construction lines

As we all know - from time to time - it is a lot of work to prepare a part of a drawing for a hatch.
To get rid of one of the basic task (cutting lines along the desired hatch boundary) it would be nice to have an add-on - or what ever - what would cut ALL intersection in a drawing (or just on one layer, or just based on a selection etc.) with just a mouse click. Then it would be much faster and easier to do the selection for the hatch boundaries.
The user could decide to make it directly in his drawing or he like to duplicate the drawing to an extra layer where this function will be used ....

Maybe a tool like this could be an additional ‘Snap’ selection option - select all snap intersections or select snap intersections within a boundary! then as you suggest ‘cut’ at the intersection points.

The Info Tool Polygonal Area is a helpful tool ... but I like to ask for additional options

Yes, the polygonal area makes absolute sense but many times you have just to check a square or rectangle area!

It would be nice and time (click) saving if we could use a “Strg Key” to limit the polygonal area to just a rectangle area.
Two mouse clicks for a rectangle area and done

In addition to that it would be nice to have the possibility to count up or down a couple areas.
E.g. I measure area 1 plus area 2 or area 1 minus area 2 ...
Maybe just with an additional keystroke like + or -

At our QCAD Drawing window, below right corner, we have the Info displayed what are the Grid / Meta Grid settings.
It would be nice to have additional the Info for the drawing unit ...

If I move something and it went wrong I can easily undo the last move and start over without the need of a re-selection.
If I copy something and it went wrong I can undo the last copy but I have to re-select everything again.

It would be nice to keep the once chosen selection in both “undo” situation!

Same with similar functions like rotate etc. ....

Default Path for “Create Library item from selection” / “Save us” is C:\Programme\QCAD pro 3.1.6 ...
... regardless of the settings in the “Application Preferences / Library Browser / for Library Sources.
And QCAD doesn’t remember the last path choice ....

If I have to save 50 Library Items I have to navigate 50 times thru my system to find - the same place.

It would be nice if QCAD would point in first place to the Library Source or, at least, remember the last used path ...

Scenario:

Drawing 1: Blockname X is part of a selection, I copy this selection into the clipboard to use it in an other drawing.

Switch to Drawing 2, this drawing has also a Blockname X but with a different content.

Use the clipboard paste function - the clipboard content will be modified (only the Block) by the drawing 2 block content.

No warning pops up - it just happens!

It would be nice and helpful if we had the possibility to control the order of Attributes - shown in the property editor.
I found a solution for myself with using numbers in the Attribute definition tag - but that isn’t really a nice solution.
If I could hide my numbering ... everything would be fine for me ....

... doesn’t works proper at circles and ellipses.

Circles: the scale works only proportional even though I have the options for x and y.
Ellipses: The same but if I play around with the x, y fields it will freeze the scale possibility.

It would be nice to have the possibility to control the automatic Text orientation in Block attributes.
Something what would work like the DIM restriction: I can read the text horizontal and/or from the right side of the drawing sheet.

Right now I have the feeling that the Text orientation is dependent on the tool what I even use.
Different tools = different outcomes.

It would be nice (and a time-saver!) to have an additional option in the alignment tool: Distribute entities / blocks equally.

Property Editor - Geometry - Custom - Add Custom Property

It would be nice to have in “Application preferences” the possibility to predefine a couple Custom Property Names.
Right now I use the Custom Property function to add a DIN and the Material info to every Block. This project has a lot of DIN parts and I have to type again and again the names DIN ... Material ... DIN ... Material ... DIN ... Material ... DIN ... Material ... DIN ... Material ... you got my point

If I have predefined Names - I have just to fill out the value

Property Editor - Geometry - Custom - Add Custom Property

If I use an identical Name accidentally again in the Custom Property dialog - it will overwrite the first value with the same name without any warnings.

It would be nice to have the Selection Filter also present in the Menu / Selection List

Many times I’m faced with the situation that I have to use a rectangle related to other entities. Dimensions/Angle = unknown.

We have in QCAD a rectangle tool with a two point diagonal determination but this is limited to two points and it will only work in a horizontal and vertical direction.

My feature request is based on the idea to draw a rectangle with 3 points - regardless the angle.

1. First point: start

2. second point: determination of the first side (width?) and it will also provide the angle for the rectangle

3. third point: determination second side (height?)

I’m asking for an additional new tool? No - just as an option to the existing rectangle tool ...

We do not have a Radian measure tool but we can change the labeling of a Angular Dimensioning ...

It would be nice to have a “Radian measure symbol” in the Property Editor / Geometry / Label / Insert Symbol List.

If I use the Info tool “Polygonal area” with the option “Add measurement to the drawing” I always have to edit the Value to make clear that we now looking to an area value like m² or ft².

I was thinking that a pre labeling (prefix/postfix) like the normal Dim tools could save me a couple extra steps ...

Using a horizontally/vertically ray means always I have to use a preset Reference point which is 0° for the horizontal Ray and 90° for the vertically Ray. The Reference point Option Box is deactivated.

It would be nice to be able to choose by myself between a Start and End Reference point like the vert./horiz. Line options.

Now - after enjoying the great new “Scale” option for Dimensioning I like to ask for the same scale option for the “Info tools”.
It would be really nice to have more flexibility (without a pocket-calculator) in reading and displaying the Info tool results.

If I have to do some kind of intense tasks like converting a previous Polyline, which is now exploded to lines (maybe a couple hundred thousand short lines) back to a polyline (Polyline/Create from Segments) QCAD needs time to do that. In this “working time” I can’t see any indicator that QCAD is working. Not a Hourglass on the mouse or some other indicator. I have just the feeling: Nothing is going on right now ...

It would be nice to have some kind of visual info that QCAD is working.
