1625 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | Copy Layer | Assigned
|
Task Description
Hi,
often I’m in the situation that I have to create an additional Layer mostly based on the settings from an already existing Layer. Just a question of organization. This new Layer has then everything identical except the name and one(?) Attribute. This could be that only the color or the Line weight deviates.
Example:
Existing Layer
Layer name: Lot 47 area existing
Attributes
Color: Red
Lineweight: 0.35
Linetype: Dashed
New Layer
Layer name: Lot 47 area proposal
Attributes
Color: Blue
Lineweight: 0.35
Linetype: Dashed
Unfortunately if done manually it happens in an blink of an eye that the human imperfection (me!) makes a mistake and (e.g.) a “Center (.5x)” finds it way into the Linetype Field instead of a “Center (.2x)” ....
The workaround for a few User is to use in cases like this the Property Editor / General Property and customize single Attributes. In my opinion the first step to lose the control over your own drawing ...
A “Copy Layer” / Copy Layer Attributes” function would speed up this task and eliminate to a minimum the “human imperfection” factor.
I could imagine that a right click (like copy block) on the Layer triggers the “Add Layer” function and the dialog is already prefigured with the Settings of the Source Layer ...... ready for editing. The new Layer itself is “empty” like any other new Layer.

Task Description
Hi Andrew,
1. I cannot find a way of selecting individual dimensions and changing the precision lets say from 0.00 to 0.000 for these particular dimensions only without affecting all the rest of the dimensions in the drawing - could an option be added for doing this in the property editor or not?
2. Would it be possible to add an option in the drawing preferences so that automatically a symbol is added at the correct placement fo all dimensions, in this case a tolerance plus/minus symbol?
Many thanks

Task Description
Hi.
I’m working currently a lot with files coming from rhino. Qcad can open them properly any also most operations on them work as usual - except the selection methods.
box select from upper left to lower right works as usual. double click to select all connected entities is broken. (only one entity is selected). box select from lower right to upper left does not select entities touching the selection box. (nothing is selected)
on mac os nothing is selectable with single click. on linux single click sometimes fails (nothing is selected after clicking on a line).
thanks for looking into this :)

1663 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | Feature Request: Export Layers as New Drawing | Assigned
1 |
Task Description
Hi!
in many tasks in qcad I ended up exporting one or several layers into individual files for some cnc jobs or further processing. So the steps I usually do are:
select all elements on the layer
paste into new drawing
sometimes rename layer names or attributes
adjust dimension settings
save and give name for drawing
Sometimes I have up to 100 layers I need to export like this, so an automatic export for all would be time saving too. But very often a “single click” export method would also help a lot. (e.g. inside the layer list an entry in the right click menue like “save as new file”). Also a multiple selection would be handy if more that one layer should end up in the new file. (e.g. select the three layers that need to be in the new document, then right click and save as new file). Maybe this is too much of changes needed inside the layer list - so something like a separate layer export dialogue would make sense.
When exporting many layers some variables for automatic naming of layers and filename would make sense e.g. user can specify basename_%L.dxf to get the basename_layername.dxf or just an increasing number.
For layers and attributes it is often needed to give a layer a certain name or color for different cnc processes (e.g. engraving and cutting for lasers) or to put everything on layer “0” because of some old CAM software that only supports content on layer 0.
probably many more details would make sense that I didn’t think of yet...
kind regards Martin

1681 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | Auto-dimensioning | Assigned
|
Task Description
You can apply the command to Lines, PolyLine segments, Arcs, Circles, and Rings:
For linear entities parallel to an axis of the coordinate system, aligned Dimensions (parallel Dimensions) are created. For linear entities not parallel to an axis of the coordinate system, either aligned Dimensions (measuring the absolute distance between two points) or horizontal or vertical Dimensions (measuring the horizontal or vertical distance between two points) depending on where you move the pointer are created.
For curved entities, you can create radial, diameter, linear, angular, and arc length Dimensions.
To dimension entities:
Click Dimension > Auto (or type AutoDimension). In the graphics area, select an entity to dimension. Click to place the dimension line. To use another dimension type for Circles or Arcs, specify an option: Diameter. Creates a diameter Dimension. Radial. Creates a radial Dimension for an Arc or Circle. Linear. Creates a linear Dimension of the diameter of a Circle or an aligned, horizontal, or vertical Dimension between the end points of an Arc. Angular. Dimensions the angle between the end points of an Arc. Arc length. Dimensions an Arc length. Note: The chosen option is the default the next time you use the AutoDimension command.
When you move the pointer during a linear dimensioning, you can: Lock. Determines the current dimension type (aligned, horizontal, or vertical) regardless where you move the pointer. Unlock. Unlocks the type of linear dimension used. Press Enter.
*** In short, when you use this tool you click on an entity and it will know what dimension you’re looking for. For Circles, you can specify in the command window R or D for Radius or Diameter. This would be extremely useful on large drawings where a lot of dimensioning is to be done. One tool and start clicking on entities for dimensioning.

Task Description
When dimensioning my drawings I always want the dimensions to be on the dimensions layer. When adding text I want the text to be on the text layer. When drawing an infinite line it is always a construction line, therefore I want it to be on the construction line layer. When drawing a line segment it almost always is on my outline layer.
So I propose a new option to bind certain actions to certain layers. Whenever those actions are selected the layer should automatically be switched.
I can imagine this being implemented in the General→Tool Settings menu, where the short cuts are defined.

1746 | QCAD (main) | Bug Report | Low | Incorrect file extension handling in Export Bitmap | Assigned
|
Task Description
A file with name of 1234.56.78.0001.00 Something blah blah.dxf will not export to bitmap correctly. The save dialog will suggest filename of 1234.56.78.0001.jpg instead, truncating everything after last dot.
This bug existed in older versions too because of incorrect handling of file names. As a result, at some point File.getSaveFileName incorrectly truncates the extension (which is empty at the time) and replaces it with jpg . Appending a null extension fixes this, though obviously it’s not a correct fix.
Here is a temporary workaround in File.js :
File.getInitialSaveAsPath = function(filePath, extension) {
var ret = "";
var fi;
if (isNull(filePath) || filePath.length === 0) {
var mdiChild = EAction.getMdiChild();
var fn;
if (!isNull(mdiChild)) {
fn = stripDirtyFlag(EAction.getMdiChild().windowTitle)
}
else {
fn = "File";
}
fi = new QFileInfo(QDir.homePath());
ret = fi.absoluteFilePath() + QDir.separator + fn + "." + extension + ".nothing"; // Workaround here
} else {
fi = new QFileInfo(filePath);
ret = fi.path() + QDir.separator + fi.completeBaseName() + "." + extension + ".nothing"; // Workaround here
}
return ret;
};

I see that most of this was put in there as a kind of a note-to-self originally, however _SC_NPROCESSORS_ONLN is implemented by every realistically possible targets anyway, so for all practical purposes, this is dead weight.
A couple of questions remain, though:
#ifdef Q_ OS_WIN32 should probably be Q_ OS_WIN, so as to include win64 as well.
Assuming the real purpose for this function is to determine how many parts a particular task is to be split into in the future, if and when QCAD gets the need to split expensive tasks among multiple CPUS, “core” probably shouldn’t be static - CPUs are hot-pluggable today, and while one probably doesn’t do that on a laptop, it’s not unfeasible in, say, a VDI environment.
Thoughts?

1071 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Very Low | (Bitmap) scaling convenience option | Assigned

Task Description
This can be done as is in QCAD today, but a quick convenience UI bit would be much appreciated.
Suppose you are working off a bitmap image (transcribing old scan, or you got your apartment’s floor plan like this, because, uh, what tenant needs DXF). It has dimensions markers and everything, but fat chance it’ll be to actual CAD scale after importing.
So, to bring it to scale, you measure between two tick marks on the scale, compute ratio based on measurement and what’s written on the dimension line, and do a scale operation (you can also have QCAD compute the ratio by using math expression, whatever).
That works fine.
A purely just for convenience function to do that would be much appreciated: pick two points, enter what the actual distance between them is, poof bam, appropriate scaling operation is applied.
As a twist, there could be some other bitmap skewing options, like “the points I’ve selected are on a horizontal/vertical line/at an angle of X degrees, then the bitmap would also be applied this transform.
