1708 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Layer > Select Layer: add feedback Closed

Task Description

Win 7
Q-CAD 3.19.2

R-Click in Layer list
With a selection, selecting by Layer adds the Items on that Layer to the selection.
With a selection, deselecting by Layer subtracts the Items on that Layer from the selection.
This is not a bug in casu because this can be the intention of the function. Adding or Subtracting.

Intuitively ‘selecting by Layer’ to retrict to that Layer solely has only the desired effect if no selection existed before.
Deselecting by Layer with no previous selection should mention there was none to start with.
Selecting by Layer from an empty Layer should mention that nothing is added.

Faults are prone to make.

Selecting a Layer uniquely would be an interesting additional feature.

1707 QCAD (main)Bug ReportLow Dimension text size and arrow for imported drawings, wa ...Closed

Task Description

A nasty bug that I posted some time in the forum that prevents QCAD to read properly the content block associated with dimension.

Here’s what is happening:
- every dimension entity in DXF/DWG is stored with a block representing its contents (or in fact, anything else)
- QCAD ignores that block and instead renders the dimension using the various sizes and properties of the dimension

1705QCAD (main)Feature RequestLowConnect certain actions and layersAssigned

1 Task Description

When dimensioning my drawings I always want the dimensions to be on the dimensions layer.
When adding text I want the text to be on the text layer.
When drawing an infinite line it is always a construction line, therefore I want it to be on the construction line layer.
When drawing a line segment it almost always is on my outline layer.

So I propose a new option to bind certain actions to certain layers.
Whenever those actions are selected the layer should automatically be switched.

I can imagine this being implemented in the General→Tool Settings menu, where the short cuts are defined.

Task Description

On any version newer than 3.18.0 the LinuxCNC options under “Configuration” drop-down no longer work under CAM→CAM Legacy Export. As you can see in the attached screen shot, the menu line which would normally contain LinuxCNC is blank. Also, when LinuxCNC (Inch) and LinuxCNC (Millimeter) are selected, none of the Global or per-Layer options are available, it just says “No Global Options” and “No Layer Options” as you can also see in the screen shot. I think this is because both of these are derivatives of the main LinuxCNC configuration which is not working.

I have confirmed this problem with fresh installs (using the installer) on both Windows 10 and Debian testing

1681QCAD (main)Feature RequestLowAuto-dimensioningAssigned
0%
Task Description

You can apply the command to Lines, PolyLine segments, Arcs, Circles, and Rings:

For linear entities parallel to an axis of the coordinate system, aligned Dimensions (parallel Dimensions) are created. For linear entities not parallel to an axis of the coordinate system, either aligned Dimensions (measuring the absolute distance between two points) or horizontal or vertical Dimensions (measuring the horizontal or vertical distance between two points) depending on where you move the pointer are created.

For curved entities, you can create radial, diameter, linear, angular, and arc length Dimensions.

To dimension entities:

Click Dimension > Auto (or type AutoDimension).
In the graphics area, select an entity to dimension.
Click to place the dimension line.
To use another dimension type for Circles or Arcs, specify an option:
Diameter. Creates a diameter Dimension.
Radial. Creates a radial Dimension for an Arc or Circle.
Linear. Creates a linear Dimension of the diameter of a Circle or an aligned, horizontal, or vertical Dimension between the end points of an Arc.
Angular. Dimensions the angle between the end points of an Arc.
Arc length. Dimensions an Arc length.
Note: The chosen option is the default the next time you use the AutoDimension command.

When you move the pointer during a linear dimensioning, you can:
Lock. Determines the current dimension type (aligned, horizontal, or vertical) regardless where you move the pointer.
Unlock. Unlocks the type of linear dimension used.
Press Enter.

***
In short, when you use this tool you click on an entity and it will know what dimension you’re looking for. For Circles, you can specify in the command window R or D for Radius or Diameter.
This would be extremely useful on large drawings where a lot of dimensioning is to be done. One tool and start clicking on entities for dimensioning.

Task Description

When defining block attributes, the default text alignment is center.

I changed this to align left and copied an attribute (ctrl + C) and then pasted (ctrl + V) fourteen times.

As I opened each one up with the editor to change the tag information, I noticed that every copied/pasted attribute definition had changed to align right.

I purposely set the first one back to align left and copy/pasted it a few times. Each paste had the attribute text set to align right again.

Issue in Layout Block

Printing Color Black/White changed to “Full Color Mode”,
Default setting to use ANSI A will change to ISO A4 in mm regardless that the Paper Unit is inch and size ANSI A.
Unit is unstable when you change the format a few times. It will switch between mm and inch what can lead to a 8.5 mm x 11 mm Paper size (then called customized!) or 210” x 297” ANSI A4,

Paper orientation preset to Landscape is then Portrait in Layout Block

1663QCAD (main)Feature RequestLowFeature Request: Export Layers as New DrawingAssigned
0%
1 Task Description

Hi!

in many tasks in qcad I ended up exporting one or several layers into individual files for some cnc jobs or further processing. So the steps I usually do are:

  • select all elements on the layer
  • paste into new drawing
  • sometimes rename layer names or attributes
  • adjust dimension settings
  • save and give name for drawing

Sometimes I have up to 100 layers I need to export like this, so an automatic export for all would be time saving too. But very often a “single click” export method would also help a lot. (e.g. inside the layer list an entry in the right click menue like “save as new file”). Also a multiple selection would be handy if more that one layer should end up in the new file. (e.g. select the three layers that need to be in the new document, then right click and save as new file). Maybe this is too much of changes needed inside the layer list - so something like a separate layer export dialogue would make sense.

When exporting many layers some variables for automatic naming of layers and filename would make sense e.g. user can specify basename_%L.dxf to get the basename_layername.dxf or just an increasing number.

For layers and attributes it is often needed to give a layer a certain name or color for different cnc processes (e.g. engraving and cutting for lasers) or to put everything on layer “0” because of some old CAM software that only supports content on layer 0.

probably many more details would make sense that I didn’t think of yet...

kind regards
Martin

1662 QCAD (main)Performance IssueLow Select > Select Contour: slow for complex drawings Closed
100%
Task Description

Hi!

when working with files containing many not connected elements (non-poly-line elements) a double click can cause a coffee-break easily. The search for connected entities easily takes over 5 minutes on an up to date machine (i7@3.4GHz) with files that are pretty standard in size (2 or 3 MB file size ascii dxf). Adding an interruption-method would be suitable (for example by pressing escape).

attached a file with a polyline of 13000 entities and a second file with just everything duplicated. When exploding the polyline and double clicking an element it takes quite a while until all elements are selected. (this is not an extreme example, I had sometimes 10 minutes of waiting with slightly bigger files, accidently double clicking something).

also an improved algorithm for the search would help to speed up the selection. (e.g. divide the area in smaller parts, do the search there, or an option to search only in the visible view port of the document)

This bugs me since a long time but I wasn’t able to reproduce it ..... till now!

My Dim Label font for new drawings (Application Preferences) is set to “Helvetica-Bold” Basically it was working just fine for new drawings but from time to time, after saving and reopen my drawing, the font was lost and replaced by “Standard”. No idea why!

Today I was playing with the new QCAD Feature “Default Template” and learned that I loose all the time my preselected font. QCAD ignores that my Template “Drawing Preferences” and also the “Application Preferences” are set to “Helvetica-Bold”. It will be replaced by “Standard”. Annoying! :-(

Ok, question was why it doesn’t happened with all drawings, all the time?
After many tests ....
The “old” blank Template opens with the correct font setting. If I use a Dim in the drawing and save it everything works as expected.
If I save the drawing without a Dim in it then the preselected Font will be replaced by “Standard”. It happens also if I delete all Dims in a so far proper working drawing - save and reopen it leads to the same issue. The Font will be replaced by “Standard”.

The new feature “your own Default Template” will not work regarding the Dim Label font in any cases - the template itself needs at least one Dim in the drawing to keep the desired Font.
