Not possible to turn off grid (in application preferencies). In settings looks that accepted (checkbox is unchecked) but in program window is still visible.

• a script would be great actually. then we can generate different drawings with different units / scales / paper settings
• OdWriteEx from OpenDesign creates something similar: a bunch of rectangles, each with a text label and an entity inside, e.g. “Aligned Dimension” and below a rectangle with an aligned dimension inside

• the example drawings should contain:
  • an instance of every supported entity type (line, arc, circle, all dimensions, block insert, text, hatch, solid fill, ...)
  • lines in all available widths
  • lines in all available types
  • lines in all available (fixed) colors and some custom colors

• script should be able to generate example drawings for different:
  • units
  • drawing scales
  • paper sizes
  • paper settings (background color, multi page settings, etc.)

In order to type a diacritical letter (e.g. with ' (é) or " (ö)), MacOS does not repeat the letter when a key is pressed continuously. Instead a dialog appears which allows the user to select one of the diacritics related to the letter of the key pressed. In QCAD and presumably QT, keeping the key pressed starts typing the letter repeatedly while after the first letter is typed the selector for the diacritical letters appears. So you can still the select e.g. the ü but you have to delete all the u’s that were typed before you were able to release the key.

A stop gap measure is to minimise the ‘key repeat delay’ setting in keyboard preferences so that its easier to stop the repetition in time, but that influences other programs as well.

I suppose this is a QT dependency and hase less to do with QCAD. Still, I wanted to let you know.

All drawing elements belonging to a layer are not existing anymore after:

1. the layer has been made invisible (unselect the eye symbol of the layer),
2. the drawing has been saved,
3. the drawing has been closed
4. and finally the drawing is reopened.

This behavior has been observed on the following OSes:

• Windows XP SP3
• Ubuntu 11.04

Printer settings cannot be changed for model space.

Anonymous blocks (with names starting with *, imported from other software) can be mixed up on writing.

If custom complex linetypes embedded in a file refer to a font that is not available for linetype shapes, the file cannot be opened.

Fiddling with the drill-toolpath error, a solution seems to be to add the drill location as a ‘single point’ in the ‘source’ sublayer. I am using this as a Bug Work Around.

When a drawing is placed in X,Y coordinates QCAD is unable to zoom to the drawing.

We use X,Y coordinates like X=182,635,000 mm Y=579,005,000 mm for the location of the constructions.

If you use Auto Zoom you get to see a small dot on the screen but as soon as you try to zoom to the drawing QCAD jumps within a certain limit and you can’t get to the drawing.

Selecting the polyline is not possible.
Possibly related to update of DrawPolyline tool.

Then I installed the DoveTail-script (http://www.qcad.org/rsforum/download/file.php?id=623) and after that QCAD won’t start anymore.

Don’t know whether that is a bug in the script or in QCAD, so I am reporting it here.

This manifestation happened after I had loaded an existing drawing, made modifications, then used print preview and adjusted the scale to fit the paper.

The file was closed. Upon reopening lines designated as .25mm were unusually thick such that two lines 2mm apart appeared as one solid line. Placing the cursor over the line showed it was comprised of two lines.

Changing the properties of a line to make it thinner did not help with one exception and that was to set the line thickness to default, when the two lines became visible.

• File “ExampleDrawings/data/dim_aligned.dwg”:
  • upper limit: 0.01, lower limit 0.02 → correctly shown
• choose “Generate Example Drawings” → the element “aligned dimension” (with limits set) shows 0.010.01 now, since both label and tolerance limits are set (according to the property editor):
  • label: <>\S0.01^0.02;
  • upper limit: 0.01
• same for lower limit
• “Generate Example Drawings” inserts the drawings as blocks

By saving a drawing QCAD is destroying the cross-hatches

When we create a draft in version 2.2.2 we put dashed lines and the length is 0. We see a dash lines. (see attach file).

When we open the same draft in the version 3.3.2 we don’t see the dashed lines we see a continous lines.

If I changed in the dxf this lines DASHED 370 0 per DASHED 370 5 and changes the preference of the drawing it’s work.

But we don’t want to open all of 180000 drawings to change the length of the dashed lines from 0 to 5. We want that the version 3 print the dashed lines as the version 2.

CTRL + left mouse button does not add to current selection

If you had created a drawing in v2, it is NOT possible do make cross-hatch in v3.

Line pattern factor for zero weight lines defaults to 0 which can lead to division by zero.

Draw > Polyline > Trim Segments crashes if QCAD is compiled using gcc 4.2.1 which is the case for the Mac OS X package.

I have a file that makes QCAD crash. I’ve been editing this design across different versions of QCAD over time and this is the first time I have a problem with it.

Steps to reproduce:
Open the attached file and try to add some entities or dimensions to it (you may need to create large ones since it seems to depend on the zoom factor; for example a very large ellipse). After a freeze of a few seconds QCAD will quit.

The attached file is a simplified version from which I deleted a number of entities; on the original I can’t do anything – QCAD crashes as soon as I try to create any object.

Cause: 3D lines with x1==x2, y1==y2 but z1!=z2

QCAD crashes when saving a drawing that has a block attribute added.
This happens both with a block and the exploded version of the block.

Please find attached the system info, as well as an example drawing.
In this drawing, there are three boxes. The lower 2 boxes are intended to contain text attributes.

- Copy two block references of block “circle” which contains one circle
- Paste into new, empty drawing
- Pasted block “circle” contains two circles

Entering a coordinate (e.g. 20,20) results in direct distance entry instead (angle from relative zero to mouse pointer, length 20).

1. start QCAD (no arguments → a new blank drawing is shown)
2. enter “new” into the command line
3. close both drawings / tabs
4. click into command line edit field and press “arrow up”

Changing the unit of a drawing can make QCAD hangs

• Mile: QCAD hangs in endless loop
• Nanometer, Microinch: view turns white, at some levels of zoom, it turns gray
• Foot, Yard: GraphicsView grid too small meshed

You can’t save changes in “Application Preferences > Shortcuts and Commands”!
It works only for the current session - after a restart the settings are back on default

Using Beta 3 v3 saving files to DXf 2010, DWG 2010, or even 2007 only saves succesfully some times. Most of the time I get a warning dialog stating that “Cannot open file” - no suitable importer found?

When opening a .dxf file saved by QCAD with a name containing a special characters (tested with diacritics), it fails with the following message:

Cannot open file
'E:/tèst1.dxf'
Import failed.

How to reproduce:
1 - Save a file (content doesn’t matter, it’s the same with an empty file and a file containing data) using the name “tèst1.dxf” 2 - Try to open the file
3 - Error message

What is expected:
The file open.

Note that the problem doesn’t lie in the “save” step: the same file, once renamed to “test1.dxf” opens fine.

Recently I found out that tabs (CAM module) are only visible on layer 0. If I turn this layer off, all tabs will disappear. It is very inconvenient for someone who create a drawing using multiple layers. Im my case, layer 0 contains the frame and the info table only. When the drawing is ready and verified, I add a layer with a copy of the drawing just for g-code generation. I do it in that way because the drawing sometimes has to be modified for cnc purposes. Please correct this problem.

Font Standard. Selected as ‘single line’ font for engraving with mill or laser.

While CAM Exporting as G-code Laser (Offset) MM, or as Linux CNC, Exporting gets trapped in a loop.

In Font Standard the glyph’s ? & $ @ s S Q and 2 contains unwanted Z-movements. It seems these glyphs entities are not alligned properly; endpoint last line does not meet startpoint next line; why else the Z-movements?

Could this misallignment also traps Exporting?

I have created a block from a selection. I have then later created more items on my CAD page using that block, then later yet, moved the objects to a new layer. I noticed that while the object has accepted being on the new layer, the color hasn’t changed to the new layer’s color. I can only get the line color to change if I go into the block itself and move the individual segments of the block to that new layer, then save the new block (which, by the way, I can’t save over the existing block?!?!)

In the sample file attached, you will see that the block item in the 3 o’clock position is in layer 0, while the rest are in “Vent Holes” layer. If you make layer 0 hidden, the one block is hidden (like it should), but the block item refuses to take on the layer’s color even though the block’s color is “By Layer”

When I started Q3, I selected a White background in the initial dialog window. I opened a copy of a good Q2 file and saw that ALL entities with Q2 Black/White color where forced to be White. Andrew explains this as a mean to avoid unreadable items against the background colors. Remember I selected White as background ? I guess Black/White entities could be better kept as Black ?

Following Andrew’s advice, in Application Preferences =⇒ Graphics View, I unchecked the Auto correct black and white colors check box. The background settings is white. OK.

I went through a process of changing the White color for several layers to Black. I also had to change the color codes for the hatch areas. For instance, the hatch area layer “055_F_Murs” has “14-76-255 / 255-197-179” values in Q2. Why these values are auto corrected to “30-128-255 / 255-191-127” ?

After these changes, I saved the file, closed Q3 and opened the file again.

Catastrophique ! All “Black/White” layers were back to Black and the hatch colors were back to the “auto corrected” values.

Changing the background color to black then white seemed to solve the problem : the layers kept the Black color. Actually it was just an illusion.

Yesterday too much confident, I spent the whole day, modifying layers to Black, adding new layers also Black or custom color, checking the line weight (replacing the “default” (?) value of 0.25 mm with my preferred default value of 0,00 mm, I’ve posted on the forum about this) and so on. I saved the file, closed it.
To-day, nearly all layers have lost their colors :
- Black ones are again White,
- custom color are “auto corrected” as above for “055_F_Murs”,
- only the standard non Black/White colors are preserved, like Blue, Magenta etc.

At this point, I can’t continue using QCAD 3 with enough reliability as my color settings are always lost. This is why I qualify this bug as CRITICAL.
I don’t want to use a Black background or a Light Blue one. Why do you think all old “green on black VDU” were replaced with “black/color on white” displays, to begin by Apple ?

NB I already reported this but can’t find it in the list (maybe because I forgot to enter a summary ? No warning, happily I had a copy with Notepad), sorry for the duplicate.

I would like to see an autosave-option which allows to autosave, but which keeps only the latest autosave file (instead of all). So there would be autosave (if something crashes) but the hard disk is not filled up too fast.
