Case:
Drawing with text, zoom in and out with one of the common methods, text will disappear in certain zoom level

Same drawing zoomed in and out in 3.20.0.0 doesn’t show this effect - works just fine.

Hi,

since 3.19.2 the Stretch tool looks for any selection and follows the specification “Only stretch selected entities if there is a selection”.

That is a nice feature but it leads many times to confusing because I have to deselect a selection just because I need to use the stretch tool on something else on the fly. The same if I “forgot” a selection outside of my zoom which is still important for me. The stretch tool just won’t work without any message why not. My routine now is that I terminate every selection just before I use the stretch tool just not to be surprised by “why isn’t it working”?

It would be nice to have in the Stretch option bar a checkbox to turn the “only selection feature” on or off. QCAD should remember that setting.

Default Path for “Create Library item from selection” / “Save us” is C:\Programme\QCAD pro 3.1.6 ...
... regardless of the settings in the “Application Preferences / Library Browser / for Library Sources.
And QCAD doesn’t remember the last path choice ....

If I have to save 50 Library Items I have to navigate 50 times thru my system to find - the same place.

It would be nice if QCAD would point in first place to the Library Source or, at least, remember the last used path ...

Property Editor - Geometry - Custom - Add Custom Property

If I use an identical Name accidentally again in the Custom Property dialog - it will overwrite the first value with the same name without any warnings.

If I work in QCAD only with Toolbars (and not with the “Cad Tools” there is nowhere a Button to find for “Create Block from selection”.
If I have to create a Block based on a selection I have to work with the Menu or have to activate the Cad Tools.

But, if I look at the Blocklist menu there is a function (+) to add an empty Block. It would be nice to have this button working for both situation - empty Block or depending on a selection to “Create Block from selection”.

Or alternative an additional Button ...

Anyway - in my opinion would that make the “Blocklist” complete.

Additional Export function for export/import into 3D Programs like Sketchup etc. (file types like .dae, .3ds, .ddf, .skp).

The Info Tool Polygonal Area is a helpful tool ... but I like to ask for additional options

Yes, the polygonal area makes absolute sense but many times you have just to check a square or rectangle area!

It would be nice and time (click) saving if we could use a “Strg Key” to limit the polygonal area to just a rectangle area.
Two mouse clicks for a rectangle area and done

In addition to that it would be nice to have the possibility to count up or down a couple areas.
E.g. I measure area 1 plus area 2 or area 1 minus area 2 ...
Maybe just with an additional keystroke like + or -

It would be nice to have an additional Radius Measurement tool with short leads. The current Radius tool shows always the lead line to the center of the radius what is in many cases not useful.

Hi Andrew,

we know that you need to have always software performance in your mind to decide which features / tools can / should be implemented and on which way.

I really appreciate your effort to find the best middle way between software features and performance but I think also it’s a tough call to appraise worldwide the overall customer equipment to make the software workable to the best for everybody. That isn’t possible without compromise.

Maybe it would make sense to think about a new dialog in the “Application Preferences” to let the user decide what kind of feature are absolutely needed regarding to his/her work-task / equipment. I don’t mean that you need to cover every single thing but the main “performance jeopardy’s” should be covered with an on/off switch.

Yes I know - that isn’t done in 5 minutes but I think that can make your life easier in the long run and will cover even more customer.

Just my two cents. ;)

Case:

Select a block array,
put it with “Copy with reference” or “Cut with reference” into the clipboard,
choose a reference point which isn’t in the center of the array,
use the paste tool / with option “flip pasted entities”

If I flip only in horizontal or vertical direction the preview box will double in size and I can’t place the entities precisely regarding to the reference point.
If I try to flip in both directions at the same time - you can’t see this effect.

Ziehe ich mit der Maus eine normale Auswahlbox kann ich Elemente markieren.
Möchte ich einzelne Bereiche wieder herausnehmen muss ich alle Elemente einzeln anklicken (mit gedrückter Shift Taste).
Ich kann zwar dies komfortabler gestalten mit der Select → (De -) Select Contour Funktion welche aber erst über das Menue aufgerufen werden muss.

So wie ich einzelne Elemente mit der Maus auswählen und mit der Shift-Maus Funktion deselektieren kann wäre es schön wenn die Shift Taste auch bei Auswahlbereichen direkt zum deselektieren eingesetzt werden könnte.

Es wäre Arbeitserleichternd wenn ich bei den Optionen für Bemaßungen (Prefix/Postfix) eigene Präferenzen speichern könnte so das diese in allen Zeichnungen von mir verfügbar wären.
Zudem wäre es wünschenswert dieses nicht nur bei den Prefix sondern auch bei den Postfix Angaben nutzen zu können was dann alle(?) Manipulationen erschlagen würde.

It would be nice to have the possibility to select multiple blocks with Shift and/or CTRL + mouse like the Layer List to use a delete etc command on all selected blocks at once.

I would appreciate an option for the library Browser that gives me the possibility to decide by my self to use the current (same name) layer in my drawing or overwrite it with the existing layers in the library item.

It would be less confusing to read messages in the command line protocol if it would use the same coordinate separators like the settings below Application Preferences / General / Coordinate Format.

This example shows the “Absolute Cartesian Coordinate” but of course all corresponding format settings should be used within messages.

Absolute Cartesian Coordinate: Setting = semicolon (;) but the message will use division (/).

Property Editor - Geometry - Custom - Add Custom Property

It would be nice to have in “Application preferences” the possibility to predefine a couple Custom Property Names.
Right now I use the Custom Property function to add a DIN and the Material info to every Block. This project has a lot of DIN parts and I have to type again and again the names DIN ... Material ... DIN ... Material ... DIN ... Material ... DIN ... Material ... DIN ... Material ... you got my point

If I have predefined Names - I have just to fill out the value

The square symbol offered as symbol in DIM label is the only symbol which doesn’t adopt the layer color.
If I print a drawing in full color it leads to a black symbol in an otherwise colored dimension.

It is also the only symbol which has a solid filling what is confusing when you work with it in Model_Space ...

When I modify partly a DIM with “Stretch” or changing one Extension line position with drag and drop the Value text is updated which is nice working. Unfortunately the previous value stays in place and is overwritten by the actual value. I think for a good readability the previous value should disappear in the moment when the new value is presented.

Leader Arrow size and the Architectural tick size are controlled by one and the same value.

It would be nice to get the possibility to adjust them independently from each other ...

Text → Special Characters → Others → “Character Map” pops up.
Adjust Zoom to 100% = display problem (not enough space for the single character.

... doesn’t works proper at circles and ellipses.

Circles: the scale works only proportional even though I have the options for x and y.
Ellipses: The same but if I play around with the x, y fields it will freeze the scale possibility.

It would be nice (and a time-saver!) to have an additional option in the alignment tool: Distribute entities / blocks equally.

Case description: “Hatch from Segments” (HS) detects correctly an open loop but fails then to set the circle marker for an easy visuelle identification.

Same scenario tested with “Hatch from Selection” (HA) ...
... everything works like a charm

dwg loaded in 3.27.1 frees QCAD (no response) and a Win10 PC. Same drawing loaded in 3.26.0 causes no problems. It looks to me that two hatches (handle 198b6, 198ba) are the culprits.
Drawing saved without those hatches opens without any problem in 3.27.1.

It would be nice to have the possibility to control the automatic Text orientation in Block attributes.
Something what would work like the DIM restriction: I can read the text horizontal and/or from the right side of the drawing sheet.

Right now I have the feeling that the Text orientation is dependent on the tool what I even use.
Different tools = different outcomes.

A block with Attributes can’t be flipped (Option bar) horizontally. The Attributes will be rotated 180° instead of been mirrored. Other entities in the block flip correctly.
Same block flipped vertically works as expected (Mirrored Attributes).
Same block flipped with FH or MI works as expected. (Mirrored Attributes).

Scenario: e.g. Tools Move/Copy and Rotate switched to “use without dialog.

Launch within a drawing Move/Copy, use the Keyboard keys CTRL + Space to focus on the Option Bar - the field for Numbers is Highlighted and I can change it. Further navigation with keys on the keyboard depends on remembered option (copy yes/no etc what make a navigation possible or not. It looks like the navigation with the Arrow keys is focused on the canvas and sooner or later the courser will jump to the Command Line or Property editor. Same behavior with the Rotation tool.

Es wäre schön wenn ich Werte wie zum Beispiel Längen von Linien direkt abgreifen könnte um diese weiter in Berechnungen verwenden zu können.

Beispiel:
Ich habe eine Linie konstruiert wobei sich eine Länge y ergeben hat.

Nun möchte ich eine Linie zeichnen die 5 mal y sein soll.

Linientool → Wert 5* eingeben und y durch Auswahl mit der Maus von dem vorhandenen Elements übernehmen.

Natürlich könnte ich die Geometrie Info benutzen um den Wert abzulesen oder auch über die Zwischenablage zu benutzen. Ein abgreifen mit der Maus wäre aber schneller, direkter und wahrscheinlich auch mit weniger Fehlern (Human error) verbunden. Wahrscheinlich auch genauer da QCad, denke ich, mit mehr Nachkommastellen rechnet, oder?

At our QCAD Drawing window, below right corner, we have the Info displayed what are the Grid / Meta Grid settings.
It would be nice to have additional the Info for the drawing unit ...

Drawing Unit is in “Inch” but the Layer Data (Line wight) is in “mm” ....

I like it ... but maybe I’m the only one

Task: If I like to make a hatch and the contour isn’t closed I get a Grey circle Info where the contour isn’t closed. Nice!

But ..... I have this Info only for ONE not proper connection and only for the moment when the mouse pointer is over the Hatch Tool Symbol.

If I have to zoom into the Problem - I will lose the Info where the problem is

To get the “Problem Info” back I have to select it again - but for that I have to zoom out ...............

It would be nice to have this “Problem Info” longer in the drawing - maybe until I solved all problems.

And it would be nice to have ALL Infos for not connected lines at the same time. It is not really helpful to repeat this function 20times if I have 20 connection problems ... ;)

It would be nice if the Info Tool / Add Measurement to drawing option would use the same settings like the “Dimension settings” for Font and Text height. It’s a kind of similar function in a drawing and should have the same style. Maybe with an on/off switch?

If I use the Info tool “Polygonal area” with the option “Add measurement to the drawing” I always have to edit the Value to make clear that we now looking to an area value like m² or ft².

I was thinking that a pre labeling (prefix/postfix) like the normal Dim tools could save me a couple extra steps ...

Text and/or DIM used in blocks will be mirrored if inserted with a vertical/horizontal flip option.

Text/DIM which was successfully used in previos QCAD versions are now mirrored if they are loaded in the current version.

Version 3.23.0 doesn’t shows this behavior.

Isometric Projection used on a selection which contains blocks will mix up the layer affiliations.
No blocks - no problems

It would be very useful to have the same possibility for Isometric projection like the Paste tool etc.. An option which ask me to put a new Isometric projection on the current layer is right now missing. If I like to have this new Isometric Projection on a different layer I have to reselect the projection and move it to that layer. That is plain inconvenient.

If I move something and it went wrong I can easily undo the last move and start over without the need of a re-selection.
If I copy something and it went wrong I can undo the last copy but I have to re-select everything again.

It would be nice to keep the once chosen selection in both “undo” situation!

Same with similar functions like rotate etc. ....

Reason: Same underlined keys are used for different menus

Select and Snap = S,
Dimension and Info = I,
Modify and Misc = M,

Referring to Layer List / Block List: It would improve the workflow if the Delete key on the keyboard would be linked to the minus icon (Delete). The command ER is also ignored in both list.

Library Browser - Edit Library Item - opens drawings always with grid.

- If I switch between opened drawings back and forth the grid will disappear ....
- If I switch the grid button between visible (it is already visible!) and invisible the grid is gone ....

Just Cosmetic ...

It would be nice to get:

In the Create Library Item task → “Save as” a remember Function for the last chosen Path to save the Item ... or a default path what is the same like the settings in the Application Preferences.
Right now you have to navigate again and again for every item what you will save in the same directory. If you have to save 20 items - it sacks

Also would it be nice for an easy “Clean up” to have the possibility to delete items directly in the Library Browser window.
Right now you have to use extern Programs like the Windows explorer to move or delete items.

Es ist möglich Layer in nicht eingefügten oder unsichtbar geschalteten Library Items unbemerkt zu löschen ....

Fallbeispiel 1:
Ich arbeite an einer Zeichnung die u.a. den Layer “Gelbe Linie” benutzt.
Ich füge ein Library Item ein was auch einen Layer “Gelbe Linie” hat.
Ich lösche - aus welchen Gründen auch immer - in der Zeichnung das Library Item weil ich es erst später wieder verwenden will.
In der Blocklist ist es natürlich immer noch verfügbar.
In der Zeichnung lösche ich den Layer “Gelbe Linie” da ich diesen nicht brauche brauche - habe aber natürlich nicht im Kopf welche Layer in meinen Blocks verwendet wurden.
Nach einiger Zeit will ich den Block (den aus der Library) wieder einfügen - dieser ist nun aber unbrauchbar da der Inhalt welcher auf dem Layer “gelbe Linie” war fehlt.
Das Library Item neu aus Library laden um das bereits existierende zu reparieren scheitert da das erste nicht überschrieben werden kann. Ich muss den ersten Block löschen um den neuen benutzen zu können.

Fallbeispiel 2:
Da das selbe (löschen der Layer) auch passieren kann bei unsichtbar geschalteten Blöcken kann es dazu führen das ich zig bereits positionierte Blöcke zerstöre und neu platzieren muss um meine Zeichnung zu reparieren.

Fallbeispiel 3:
Ich sehe in meiner Zeichnung einen Layer “Gelbe Linie”. Weiß nicht was das ist - schalte alle Layer unsichtbar außer “Gelbe Linie”. Klicke auf “Auto Zoom” um zu sehen was den auf “Gelbe Linie” ist. Finde nichts = also leer! Lösche Layer “Gelbe Linie”. Der Layer wurde aber von einem im Moment nicht verwendeten Library Block verwendet. Es gibt keinen Hinweis das ich damit ein Library Item zerstören könnte ....

Lange Rede kurzer Sinn: Wäre es machbar/sinnvoll Layer in Blöcken nur löschen zu können wenn ich mich im Edit Modus der Blöcke befinde?

I would really appreciate if we could get the same function for parallel lines to place a line exactly in the center of both lines.

Most of our drawings have a Data sheet, parts List, cutting list, description etc etc on a pdf, world or excel file.

It would be nice to have a link possibility directly in QCAD to those files what will be saved with the drawing.
Like the bitmap function without displaying the files in the drawing ...

e.g: If I use content out of the clipboard to insert it multiple times into the drawing with using the Middle Manual snap [SN] the snap can’t be locked [SQ] and I have to reactivated the snap again and again for every following insert.
Other snaps like END or CENTER work flawless in this scenario.

It is nice that I can scale or rotate a block - but right now I see also a big plus in a kind of locking function for Blocks.
It would be nice to have a “locked” option ad least for the scaling of blocks.

The attached example file is written with a third party CAD program in R15.
Opened in QCAD CE all Dim/Label information are available.
If I load this drawing in QCAD Pro the Dim/Label information are lost.

If I load and save the example drawing with CE the newly written dxf is readable in Pro without any issue.
