779 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | Turning detailed view on/off | Assigned
1 |
Task Description
My system: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20GHz and 8 GB of RAM and NVIDIA GT218 (GeForce 210)
For a normal drawing displaying it in all detail is a good thing and the performance of my quad-core system is more than adequate.
But I discovered (or rather experienced) that when putting a large collection of individual drawings of gears onto one big sheet (960 mm x 600 mm - preparation for laser cutting), the performance was so bad that I had to wait several seconds (>10 sec) for each step in the process of arranging all the parts on the layer.
Request: It would be a big help and performance booster if you could disable the detailed view of each part/layer and only draw a rectangle to visualize the outline of the part.
Please take this in consideration. Attached you find an example of how that could look like. (Actually when pasting a drawing from the clipboard you already do that.)

784 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | Turn text into hatched polylines | Assigned
1 |
Task Description
Would it be possible to add a feature which turns selected text into solid fill hatched polylines?
That would make it possible to migrate the drawing from one computer system to another without having to worry whether the used font is installed on both systems, like when sending a drawing to a manufacturer for laser engraving.
Right now I can do it by hand, letter by letter, and that is a rather labour-intensive task.

Task Description
Initial situation: A drawing with two visible layers: One for the outline and one for hidden lines. A second empty drawing with the standard 0 layer.
The bug: When copying the objects from the first drawing and pasting them to the current layer of the second drawing, both layers present in the first drawing are created and are empty. I suppose that’s not the way it was intended. I expected the selected objects being pasted to the current layer and NO extra layers being created.

The Midpoint Handles should be used to move Polyline Segments and lines. This would add easy to access stretch functionality. Combined with a shortcut(hold down shift or alt etc.) to fix the movement to be orthogonal to the line this would bring a lot of extra value. It would also be possible to to have another shortcut to easily insert nodes to Polylines (again hold shift or alt etc.)

Task Description
The Info Tool Polygonal Area is a helpful tool ... but I like to ask for additional options
Yes, the polygonal area makes absolute sense but many times you have just to check a square or rectangle area!
It would be nice and time (click) saving if we could use a “Strg Key” to limit the polygonal area to just a rectangle area. Two mouse clicks for a rectangle area and done
In addition to that it would be nice to have the possibility to count up or down a couple areas. E.g. I measure area 1 plus area 2 or area 1 minus area 2 ... Maybe just with an additional keystroke like + or -

Original report:
Imported a spline-dxf from adobe illustrator. Converted the spline to polyline with explode command. Then no anchor points / vertex points / vertices were showing anymore. Simplified the polyline so that it had less than 1000 points. Vertices became visible.
I think some freeform objects need actually more than 1000 vertices. Also them need to be edited. Please increase the amount of vertices showing to biginteger

877 | QCAD (main) | Bug Report | Low | Patches to build QCAD 3.2.0.0 on FreeBSD | Closed
1 |
Task Description
Hello,
The attached patches are used to build QCAD on FreeBSD.
Notes:
- patch-shared_app.pri adds a dependency to libexecinfo. It is marked as fixed in FS#876 , but still there.
It could be useful also for the other BSDs.
- patch-src_3rdparty_opennurbs_opennurbs_system.h remove malloc.h. It is marked as fixed in FS#875 , but still there.
- patch-src_3rdparty_3rdparty.pro, patch-src_core_core.pro, patch-src_core_math_RSpline.h and patch-src_entity_entity.pro allow to use opennurbs as a dependency from the ports system, which is the recommended method, but you may ignore them in the general distribution sources if you prefer.
- patch-src_core_RSettings.cpp is specific to the ports system (”/usr/local/share/qcad” is not really hardcoded, and modified according to $PREFIX at build time): you may ignore it if you want.
Best regards, – Th. Thomas

To reproduce:
Create a new drawing
Draw a 10×10 square
Save the drawing
Close and reopen. The square shows up as expected.
Use the Trim Both tool on a pair of lines meeting at one of the corners. No change in the display.
Save the drawing

If one or both of the lines changes length, either lengthened or shortened, then the changed line is preserved.

Many times I’m faced with the situation that I have to use a rectangle related to other entities. Dimensions/Angle = unknown.
We have in QCAD a rectangle tool with a two point diagonal determination but this is limited to two points and it will only work in a horizontal and vertical direction.
My feature request is based on the idea to draw a rectangle with 3 points - regardless the angle.
1. First point: start
2. second point: determination of the first side (width?) and it will also provide the angle for the rectangle
3. third point: determination second side (height?)
I’m asking for an additional new tool? No - just as an option to the existing rectangle tool ...

1071 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Very Low | (Bitmap) scaling convenience option | Closed
1 |
Task Description
This can be done as is in QCAD today, but a quick convenience UI bit would be much appreciated.
Suppose you are working off a bitmap image (transcribing old scan, or you got your apartment’s floor plan like this, because, uh, what tenant needs DXF). It has dimensions markers and everything, but fat chance it’ll be to actual CAD scale after importing.
So, to bring it to scale, you measure between two tick marks on the scale, compute ratio based on measurement and what’s written on the dimension line, and do a scale operation (you can also have QCAD compute the ratio by using math expression, whatever).
That works fine.
A purely just for convenience function to do that would be much appreciated: pick two points, enter what the actual distance between them is, poof bam, appropriate scaling operation is applied.
As a twist, there could be some other bitmap skewing options, like “the points I’ve selected are on a horizontal/vertical line/at an angle of X degrees, then the bitmap would also be applied this transform.

1096 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | SVG import: support scale transforms | Closed
1 |
Task Description
Add support for scale transforms in SVG import.
Original report:
When importing an SVG created with Inkscape, one of the elements (rectangle) is shifted (mirrored?) to the left. The example (back.svg) is appended. If you open it with Inkscape, you see the rectangle should be above the “USB” label.
My impression is that the sign of the X coordinate is swapped for some reason. At least if I mirror it using two points on the Y axis, it seems to appear where it should be.
Apart from this, also the dimensions are wrong after import. In the original SVG, the outer shape is 144.3mm wide. This is also visible in the header of the SVG:
width="144.300mm"
height="53.800mm"
However, after importing to QCad, the width is measured as 40.7247. This is a puzzling factor of 3.5433 which doesn’t look like metric/imperial conversion issue but like a complete misinterpretation of the sizes/units used in the SVG.

Hello,
I am stage manager and I have been using QCAD PRO nearly every day for 2 years now. I currently run Mac OS X Mavericks but there haven’t been any issues with this OS for months.
I deleted the app and prefs and tried out with 3.6.0 (which I don’t use because it often quits brutally), and also the free version of 3.6.4 But the issue still the same.
As I use this app for my work, it is very annoying not to be able to use text ! Thanks for your help

Task Description
Hi,
if I have an arc and use the Property Editor to get the Geometrical information I always miss the total angle of the arc.
Yes - I have the Start and the End angle but to get the Total angle I have to draw construction lines to be able to use the Angular Dim or Info angle tool /or I need to use a pocket calculator ...
It would be nice to have this calculated by QCAD - I assume it can’t be that difficult to design an extra field which will display, based on the start and end angle, the total angle of an arc.
What do you think?
