355 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | Remember function for dimension Option | Assigned
|
Task Description
I think it would be nice to have more flexibility for Prefix etc. option (not only the drop down with a given choice) and a remember function for all those fields like postfix and tolerance.
Why Remember Function: If I use a postfix like <>” in the postfix field I’m only able to use it for this particular dimension type at this time. If I change the type (from Horizontal to vertical or what ever) I have always to repeat my postfix. The same with tolerances.

Task Description
See: https://www.qcad.org/rsforum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10379
Could you add “plain text paste” as ctrl-shift-V Why? Because sometimes the clipboard comes in with rich text formatting that’s anti-helpful. The workaround is to paste into a plain text editor, or the console, then recopy and repaste into qCad.
Either way the ctrl-shift-V shortcut is useful for those trained on other software but: one could also argue that qCad should NEVER take rich text, and rather only accept the plain text with both CTRL-V and CTRL-SHIFT-V.
— CHV says
Agreed, having encountered it numerous times while documenting with text snippets from elsewhere. Even copying Info measurements from the Command Line are Rich Text.
The best place to file a feature request is QCAD Bugtracker: https://www.ribbonsoft.com/bugtracker/ You may need a different account there or make a new one.
May I remark that Ctrl-Shift-V is already in use for Paste along Entity (PE) But not when the Text Editor Widget has the focus and dialog Widgets are always modal on a Win OS system. Still, I’ll vote for it in any way.:P

Andrew,
Changing orientation of a polyline with RV or by changing it in the Property Editor clears the global width value.
Single line pieces as polyline default to CCW. Still the global width is cleared when trying to set them CW.

2540 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | Retain original handle when Hatch properties are change... | Assigned
1 |
Task Description
Andrew,
When we alter about any property of a Hatch entity it seems to be recreated with a newer/higher handle. This doesn’t influence the drawing order in direct. But already changing the drawing order of a Hatch it is recreated as a new entity.
It starts to matters in drawing order when there are multiple entities with the same drawing order and that after save/reload. Entities with the same drawing order then receive a new drawing order based on the original but sequentially increasing based on handle.
Because a Hatch is recreated with a newer/higher handle each time a property changes it will thus always end up above the others with the same order even when the original was created earlier.
This is more pronounced when copying/pasting entities from a source to a target drawing. The original Hatch drawing order is retained but it will always be above existent entities with the same drawing order in the target drawing after save/reload.
Most other entities are probably just updated in situ. It is unsure to me at this point if merely updating a Hatch is even possible. And perhaps this is related to the addObject ForceNew flag what is false by default.

2301 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | Rotate preview on/off | Assigned
1 |
Task Description
Hi,
I believe prior QCAD version 3.22.0.0 there was no rotating preview. The rotating preview shows the outcome regarding to the chosen center point. I know that it is also common for move/copy. However, for me it is very confusing and difficult to chose the correct center point for a rotation if I’m constantly been distracted by the most of the time overlapping preview of my selection. This said if the drawing is very detailed I have to zoom in extremely to be able to snap to the right entity. That wouldn’t be necessary without the preview. Additional rotate a large drawing selections will compromise the performance - CPU is going like crazy.
It would be nice to have an option to turn this preview on/off.

1903 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | Saving layer settings, e.g. visibility status, associat... | Assigned
1 |
Task Description
In a medium complex drawing it may be too much details to have all layers in a drawing visible at once.
Instead a number of views would be created that saves not only zoom level and position but also what layers are visible and not (as appropriate for the purpose of that particular view). This is very cumbersome (to the extent it is not really realistic) to achieve today and requires a lot of duplication of both model and layers.
The advantage of adding this is the ability to have only one model (with multiple views) and avoid duplication of work and the risk of inconsistency inherent with many copies of the model.
As a further (and natural extension to this) would be the ability to used this functionality with view-ports to be able to create (possibly many) paper-spaces from a single model. This would however require view-ports to be aware of what view they are a window into. A single change in the model would then propagate to all defined view-ports and paper-spaces.

2448 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | Scale lineweight display on model space | Assigned
1 |
Task Description
Currently, the model space can display lineweights at scale 1:1 It’s very convenient when drawing small objects that will be printed at scale 1:1 : it makes it easy to anticipate the final aspect of the printed drawing. But this feature is unusable for architects or users who draw large objects.
Therefore, it would be very useful to have a factor to multiply lineweight display in model space. For example : if i know my drawing will probably be printed at scale 1:50, i set the value of the lineweight factor to 50. Then every line would be displayed 50x thicker in model space.

Task Description
Source: https://www.qcad.org/rsforum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4752
According to the changelog for version 3.9.3 the info tools and coordinate display are tied to the current drawing dimensions. For much of my use I prefer to have the dimensions format different. The main reason is that my customers want to see the format in fractions, but when I am drawing I’d rather see the decimal format to make sure what I am drawing is accurate. So I’d really be interested in seeing a separate full configuration of the display and info coordinates.

|
Task Description
As an old professional “documentation writer and user inteface designer” but IMHO, I’m not convinced that the “Application preferences” are correctly organised for ease of understanding and using them. These settings are organised in 2 levels. Some of the first levels have their own settings (e.g. “Graphics view”) while most others don’t (e.g. “Load/save”). May I humbly suggest some consistency rules : - no sub-level if there is only one subject - no items on main level if there are already 1 or more sub-level(s). For instance : - sub-level “Default Dimension settings” under “Dimension” is the only sub-level : then move these items under main level “Dimension” and suppress the sub-level ; - the items under “Graphics view” main level (with several sub-levels)could be in a sub-level named “General” ; Actually, “Graphics view” main level is the only one which has both its own items and sub-levels )) ?

2338 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | Show non-QCAD custom XDATA optionally | Assigned

Task Description
QCAD (before version 3.27?) used to show some custom XDATA, e.g. tag 1000, even for application names that are not “QCAD”, which for me was useful, so it’s somewhat of a regression. (I think it was broken when selecting multiple items, maybe that’s why it was removed.)
I suggest to bring that feature back, but maybe show it only when a single element is selected if that’s easier.
(As a workaround/hack I guess it would be possible to rewrite the required information as QCAD compatible XDATA externally I guess.)

817 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | Snap and cut all intersection in a given area tool ... | Assigned
|
Task Description
As we all know - from time to time - it is a lot of work to prepare a part of a drawing for a hatch. To get rid of one of the basic task (cutting lines along the desired hatch boundary) it would be nice to have an add-on - or what ever - what would cut ALL intersection in a drawing (or just on one layer, or just based on a selection etc.) with just a mouse click. Then it would be much faster and easier to do the selection for the hatch boundaries. The user could decide to make it directly in his drawing or he like to duplicate the drawing to an extra layer where this function will be used ....
Clive mentioned on this: Maybe a tool like this could be an additional ‘Snap’ selection option - select all snap intersections or select snap intersections within a boundary! then as you suggest ‘cut’ at the intersection points.

2127 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | Snap for predicted intersections while using "Restrict ... | Assigned
2 |
Task Description
I would like to request a new kind of snap: a “Restricted Intersection” snap that appears at the point where an entity would intersect with a line drawn from Relative Zero that fulfills the current EL criteria. “Restricted Intersection” snaps would be similar to other Relative Zero-based snaps (like “Perpendicular” and “Tangential”), but would predict the point of the snap from the EL constraints instead of the characteristics of the entity being snapped to. Naturally a value of 0 for angle or length would result in that constraint being ignored.
Additional operational flexibility could be achieved by allowing the snap to exist regardless of whether EL is actually in use. To be useful this would probably require determining snap locations based on angle OR length as opposed to angle AND length.
Implementing this new snap would allow, for example, for easily drawing a line of unknown (but determinable) length at a specified angle between a given point and a given entity (see discussion here), with the “Restricted Intersection” snap ensuring that the endpoint of the new line forms an intersection with the entity in question. Currently the same goal can be achieved a couple of different ways, but they all involve at least two separate steps.

Task Description
Hi,
from time to time I need to place a circle etc precisely between two entity’s - what is a lot of construction work to get it correct. With the new “Info tool “Distance Entity to Entity” we have already the base for a new snap tool which could help to get rid of the time consuming construction process in cases like this. I would appreciate to get a new snap tool which is able to figure out the shortest distance between to entity’s and then will snap to the middle of it.
Pic 1: Given situation Pic 2: Result after using this new snap tool
Would it make also cense to have a second new snap tool which works opposite for the furthermost distance between two entity’s?

Task Description
Attached DWG/DXF files are incorrectly read by QCAD. They contain splines drawn using ZWCAD and saved as DWG/DXF version 2000. Above splines are polylines created with autolisp routine which converts spline to polyline, so you can see how splines should actually be drawn.
First spline is created with fit points: 2,2 4,4 6,2 Then copied and applied weight of 2 on central control point. Then copied again and applied weight of 0.5 on central control point.
Second spline is created with fit points: 6,2 8,4 10,2 with vertical start and end tangent. Then copied and applied fit tolerance of 1 for fit points.
Third spline is created with fit points: 10,2 12,4 14,2 with horizontal start and end tangent.
Fourth and fifth spline are correctly drawn by QCAD.

1098 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | Support for set of layers | Assigned
|
Task Description
Many constructions refer to a basis of elements, which stay constant in all follow-ups. As an example there is a floorplan and I would like to create different variations of room layout (e.g. A and B). In my example the basis consists of 30 layers an each variation needs 10 further ones. At last there are 50 different layers in my drawing. Designing layout A needs layer 1 to 30 (basis) and 31 to 40 (A) to be shown, but 41 to 50 (B) must be invisible. Now I modify Var.B which makes me to single click the visibility of 31 to 40 (A) to be not shown and 41 to 50 (B) to be shown. You’ve got it?
It would be great help, to save the set of all shown layers by an individual name in a pulldown-menu. Visibility of my variations could be chosen by userdefined “set of layers”, e.g. “Var-A”, “Var-B” and “Var-A_but_different”. In this way I pick just one set-name in my pulldown-list instead of marking and demarking between countless layers.
In my opinion this tool would be a small aspect in QCad but a giant leap for user-pleasentness

2272 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | Support unit "US survey foot" | Assigned
|
Task Description
In the US, it is (unfortunately) still common to use US survey foot. It seems at least some DXF applications/libraries support this unit as a $INSUNITS value, some references:
There are two issues regarding this with QCAD:
If you open a document with $INSUNITS being 21, it’s reset to 0 (unitless/unspecified) when saved again, even when not changing anything.
It is not possible to select these units in the GUI.
I don’t know about standardization of these values, but my hope is that it’s at least possible to preserve the unit in an existing drawing. Given that this unit is supposed to be obsolete in some years, it might seem less important, but due to this transition, it might get even more important to be able to distinguish between units. Thanks!

Because modifying hatches have lag issues I’d like to propose a toggle that turns of the redrawing/rendering of the hatch. Especially while modifying the hatch.
The hatches always have a boundary that can be worked with right? So when we move or stretch the hatch we can still see the boundary and its handles to perform all the actions.
This could be a new view mode that turns of the view of the interior/pattern of the hatch but leave the boundary of the hatch. Or the draft mode can be extended to include simplified hatches while modifying.
