Since the new QCAD 3, it is not possible any more to use “enter” in text boxes. The “enter” is always replaced by another symbol, which makes it impossible to have a long text string as a unit - like it always was in QCAD.

Could this please be fixed? It makes text control difficult.

This problem experienced since the first beta in both Win and Linux versions.

When a function (like a line) was selected for use and one press ESC twive to get back tot he main menu, it sort of does not cancel that last function. If one wouls now press on another function (like edit or circle) QCAD goes back to the line function.

the only way to rectify this is to press Esc many times. Sometimes the process needs to be repeated more than once.

I could not yet devise a sure fire way of reproducing this, but it does seems to happen as soon as the drawing gets bigger. I could not make it work with a clean page.

Although not crippling, it does break the elegance of drawing seamlessly and is a bit frustrating..

That said, I find QCAD 3.0.0 now significanlty faster than the Betas when loading and zooming in and out.

To have a tool that could convert splines to polylines would be useful, particularly for laser cutting work where a nice steady flow is needed, otherwise you can get an erratic ‘jumpy’ movement when cutting..
Maybe a ‘two’ step procedure;
1.First convert to arc/line segments.
2. Then if needed convert to a continuous polyline.

Qcad has been open and moved to a secondary screen, and then stopped.
QCad reminds where it has been previously open.
But later when QCad is started on the same computer but with no secondary screen (at home for example), QCad opens outside the only available screen. One can move QCad window on the main screen by right click on the icon in the tabkbar, then move. But one then needs to remember where it has last been openned to move it in the right direction with the arrow keys of the keyboard.

Should not QCad check if the last saved coordinates are valid and enventually change them to a default size and position before starting. May be should it move to such a position when the size of the screen changes and the coordinates become invalid, after redefining the desktop for example?

Before this problem is solved this behaviour and the process to move the window back on the screen should be documented.

Ich verwende QCAD normalerweise unter Windows 7 als Benutzer ohne Privilegien. In diesem Modus zeigt der Bibliothekbrowser keinen Inhalt. Der Pfad zur Bibliothek ist in den Applikationseinstellungen korrekt eingerichtet. Wenn ich auf “Aktualisieren” klicke, läuft der Vorgang ab, aber danach ist immer noch kein Inhalt im Browser sichtbar. Starte ich QCAD als Administrator, habe ich keinerlei Probleme mit dem Bibliothekbrowser. Ich vermute, dass bei der Installation von QCAD die Privilegien nicht richtig gesetzt wurden. Eine Neuinstallation hat allerdings keine Abhilfe geschaffen.

Dear Sirs,
I have found that QCad 3 does not properly handle the X and Y coordinates of the texts.
In fact, when I open an existing DXF file (AutoCad 2007÷2010), the texts are placed in different coordinates than the original file.
With version 2.2.2 QCad this problem is less obvious.

If I like to import a Bitmap in my drawing I have no possibility to choose a file by a thumbnail bitmap preview. In many cases it is really helpful and I assume it is a sort of standard ....

Menu View - Toolbars shows only a few of the available toolbars.

The control characters, such as bold, italic, superscript/subscript, of a Text are displayed explicitely in the drawing. Thus, one obtains not the required appearence of the characters in the drawing.
This occurs when i use QCAD3 in Windows Vista or in openSuse 12.2 on a 64 bit laptop.
If instead i use QCAD3 in openSuse 12.2 on a 32 bit laptop, then characters are displayed in the required appearance. (However, on this laptop i have the reported difficulty in selecting fonts).
If i change back from the drawing to the text editor, then also the texteditor displays the text together with explicit control characters, and not in the original required form.

Option to add a setting to configure the number (min/max) of segments for splines.

Je suis allé dans Edition/Préférences générales/Widgets/Explorateur de la bibliothèque et j’ai ajouté différents répertoires contenant soit mes bibibliothèques soit celle fournies lors de l’installation du logiciel.
L’explorateur de la bibliothèque reste vide.

The scale of the linetypes in model space not view same as in the print preview.

Allow moving (undocking) of CAD tool bar (similar like command line can be undocked).

When I open the part library, it displays a dialog saying “Updating Index”, after it finishes, none are displayed, and the filesystem bar at the top is empty, clicking on it does nothing.

To reproduce:
1.Select entity.
2.Using a ‘docked’ Modify tool bar, click on the Move/Copy button.
3.Unable to move cross hairs to snap properly to a reference point.

* No problems with this from either - the Menu > Modify > Move/Copy or the Main CAD tools > Modification tools or from using keycode MV!
Only from a ‘docked’ modify tool bar.

Its slightly difficult to distinguish between the Break out and Auto-trim buttons in 3.0.3 (snapshot) release, even with large buttons!

Maybe a different color - (Green for example?)for the horizontal line between the red dots in the new Auto-trim button.

Make sure that block references of hidden blocks cannot be selected.

Task:
I like to draw a line tangent between two circle.

I choose the line/tangent tool - click the first circle - get a Warning Message: “No tangent possible” confirm the Message with the OK Button.
Choose the second circle - get again a Warning Message: “No tangent possible” confirm also this Message with the OK Button.

Result: A line tangent between two circle ......

Steps to reproduce:
- Start QCAD
- Switch to another application by clicking on its title bar
- Switch back to QCAD by clicking on its title bar
- Without any further clicks, start panning using the middle mouse button (panning is performed but graphics view does not update)

Alternative:
- Start QCAD
- Draw a line
- Start line parallel tool
- Switch to another application by clicking on its title bar
- Switch back to QCAD by clicking on its title bar
- Without any further clicks, try placing the parallel (no preview is shown, a click will place the parallel, graphics view is often updated much later)

Tool “Create Library Item from selection” doesn’t takes the chosen Reference point ....

It seems that QCAD takes something around the absolute Reference by 2 times ..... ???

In 3.0.5 using windows 7-64 and windows vista.
After selecting to use any drafting tool - either arc, circle or ellipse, polyline etc. there are problems with defining the second snap point onwards whether using auto snap or any of the snap tools,the info feedback i.e. End or Middle etc... is flickering or none at all.

Test:
1.Center, Point.
2.Define center.
3.Hard to define point, flickering occurs on graphics feedback for label.

I`m guessing this is another Graphic display problem here.

Mouse zoom in and out with the Mouse-wheel = nice and smooth ;)

Mouse zoom in and out with the Mouse-wheel = jumping zigzag ways during it zooms .... :(

In the attached drawing (top figure) I created an hatch “Solid Fill”. I have saved, reopen and the “Solid Fill” is not present!

No problem (bottom figure) with other types of hatch.

It’s possible to have a workaround? Is urgent for terminate work.

To reproduce:
- Create a part library item with file name “Test1 .dxf” (note the space at the end of the base name)
- Insert this part library item into a blank drawing
- Try to save the drawing
- Error “Invalid Symbol Table Name” occurs

I decided to go from version 3.0 RC2 to version 3.0 Final.

I opened the program and I tried to customize the layout of the various toolbars and panels “Layer”, “Blocks”, etc..

On the next reboot all settings are lost and QCAD presents itself as image attached.

How can I fix?

I am continuing my testing on version 3.0 Final.

I noticed that, with 3.0 Final open, the service “syslogd” (on OSX Leopard PPC) does get CPU consumption up to 100%, making the machine unusable.

This has never happened with the RC2 version.

It’s possible to have a copy of RC2 while they investigated the problem? Unfortunately I have not kept a copy.

With the 3.0.3 point release (latest available for Linux systems), SVG PG exporter fails to export splines:

Uncaught exception at /opt/qcad-3.0.3-prof-linux-x86/scripts/ImportExport/SvgExporter/SvgExporterPG.js:72: TypeError: Result of expression ‘splineSeg.getDegree’ [undefined] is not a function.
72 var degree = splineSeg.getDegree();

The objects returned from getBezierSegments() do not provide the methods of RSpline.

Control Text is Displayed on Drawing created in ACAD.
The Text is representing /p as a new line when I think it should be ignored.
See QCAD PDF I am unsure what this represents in ACAD. /pxqc;

Block with Circles - can’t snap to “Reference”, Intersection.

Example case:
I open QCAD and I have automatically the “Untitled 1” drawing.
If I open now an additional, saved drawing I have all Blocks and Layer listed and I’m able to work normal with my drawing ...
If the “Untitled 1” drawing is NOT the active drawing and I close it with the X in the Tab I will lose the Layer and Block List (only the List!) in the other drawing ....

I have to play around with QCAD “Window minimizing” “Draft mode” or I have to reopen the drawing to get the Layer/Block List back!
Seems to be a refresh problem .....

Funny is that this not occurs if I have opened a couple drawings .... but in this case I’m able to switch (and refresh?) the drawings with the tabs ....

QCAD does not manage to load an DXF file created by itself (presumably, I don’t remember excactly, could be the last 2.x version). When selecting File ⇒ Open on the file in attachment, QCAD shows a pop-up reporting the following error :

Cannot open file
»‘/home/gillonr/Documents/Projects/Familly/Br.../Chambre Parents/Plans/Plan-PaterNoster.dxf’.
» Please check your access rights, the file format and file extension.

The file permissions are OK, there is no issue of disk space on the volume where the file reside or where the QCAD distribution is installed or at any other critical location. The problem does not happen on other files created with QCAD, so it appears to be data dependent.

The file causing trouble in QCAD can be imported in LibreOffice 3.4.2 w/o reporting errors (but that application does not provide the suitable methods / tools to edit this format...).

(1) Is there a way to activate debugging when reading in data from a DXF ?
(2) Is there some tool (ev. 3rd party) allowing to check that the data is clean ?
(3) Can someone identify the cause of the problem (presumably some data construct or maybe corruption) ?
(4) In case it would turn out that the problem is a QCAD bug, is there a work-around (I need these drawings...).

... after picking the first Point a wrong message appears what says:
“Warning: The two points are identical”

Case:
Start QCAD → Went to the Menu → File → Open recent → choose a Drawing out of the List → click to open this existing drawing.
Message windows appears: QCAD found an Autosave drawing .... will you open it? I choose NO!!!
I go back to the Menu → File → Open recent → will choose the same Drawing .... but it is not anymore listed!!!
Ok - I’m not lazy ...
... back to the Menu → File → Open → find the original file on my Hard drive → click to open it and get the Warning Message:
“Can not open the File ...... Please check your access rights bla bla bla....”

Question: In this case I’m only able to open the bak file and “Save as” under the old name to get my starting situation back ...?
Just because I said “NO” to load the Backup File in first place ... ?

Case:
Working on a Main Drawing, decide to edit a Block, start the editing process, close the editing process with “Return to Main drawing” and come back to the Main Drawing - but unfortunately to an absolute different View in the Main Drawing ...

It would be nice to come back to the same View (Zoom window) like before I started the editing procedure.

The 3.0.5 Version is very instable - crashes many times in an hour

Command line switch -always-load-scripts has no effect.

We have already a powerful projection tool in QCAD - the Isometric tool.

It would be nice to have additional a “Dimetric tool” (Ratio 1:0.5:1, Angle 7°/42°) what is often used in the “Engineering world”.
It looks just more professional than the simple Isometric Projections and I’m pretty sure that could open a couple more Customer doors

It would be nice ...

- to be able to use " and / in Block names what is really helpful in the Inch and Fraction world ...

- the ability to overwrite an existing Block what is often much easier/faster than editing a Block

- After selecting a Block you get the info of the Block name in the Property Editor (Geometry / Referenced Block).
If I need to edit this Block I have to go to the Block List - have to search for this name because it is not marked .... and of course it is a long long list.
It would be nice to have a “Edit this Block” Button in the Property Editor / Geometry / Referenced Block dialog ...

The 3.0.6 Version (Snapshot) is very instable - crashed always after a couple minutes ...

Modify divide moves split entities to new layer if circle or full ellipse is divided.

If I try to change the Attributes of a dim leader it doesn’t works.

Leader → Option Arrow head - marked or not - no impact - always with arrow,

Property editor:
Geometry of leader,
Arrow: yes or no - doesn’t changed anything,
Vertex: Index Number doesn’t change anything,

If I paste something from the clipboard to a drawing the scales of dims are wrong in the preview.

It is difficult to place it right with a confusing preview of that what I have to place ...

If I customize the Text height I get redundant Infos for the Contents...

Insert Block:

If I use the “Flip Block” option (Horizontal and/or Vertical) the Buttons doesn’t remains Highlighted. It should remain Highlighted ...

Please, dear Feature Fairy, I wish for hierarchical layers. That would make organizing my projects a little bit easier.

Let me show you, what I mean: (see Attachment)

Layers are great for organizing a project. For construction lines alone I sometimes use 3 and more layers. And then there are more layers for each part I design. Each with its own colour.

And when a project gets bigger I start wishing for a quick overview in the layer list to the colours I use on them. So I wish for colour indicators on the layer list to quickly identify the membership of a line to a layer.
