Layers and blocks trouble
I am not sure if this is a "How Do I" or "Troubleshooting", but I guess it'll be this one :) Community Git (at about 9f0550) as well as 3.6.0, on Linux. See attached drawing: it has a layer named "ALayer" as well as Layer 0. It also has a square block that is drawn on Layer 0, with color "By block"....

Zoom shortcuts
So I'm using an IBM keyboard that has a trackpoint ("nipple") built in, and no numeric keypad (y'know, the space saver kind, sort of like this: www2.informatik.hu-berlin.de /~dschneid/elektronik/kleines/sk8855/SK8855f.jpg) Now, this obviously doesn't have a wheel to scroll with, so I'm using keyboar...

Re: What do people use QCAD for?
I am using QCAD mostly to create floorplans vis-a-vis the electrical bits (wiring and the like) of a building. Not too long ago, when a friend moved in a new rent, we have used QCAD very extensively to plan the space for furniture and things (that is, she commandeered and I did the eye-rolling bit)....

Re: Drafix CAD - DFX file format compatability
Attached to this post is a zip file contaning a Drafix CAD drawing in it's native .cad format, as it is exported to DXF, and a bitmap image of how it actually looks like in Drafix. A small amendment to the above test results: if one opens the attached DXF in QCAD (either Teigha or dxflib), one would...

Re: Drafix CAD - DFX file format compatability
I have just tested two DXFs created with "Drafix Windows CAD 2.1a: October 26, 1992". QCAD Professional (trial) (ie. Teigha) opens them mostly fine (there are accented national characters in texts, those are incorrect, then again, non-ASCII stuff in DXF tends not to be portable anyway, so this is mo...

[solved] "Lengthen to"
I've been pondering. If you want to go from this: from.png to this: to.png the only option is basically to over-lengthen, then break out (trim, whatever). How about an option to Lengthen that, instead of specifying an exact amount to lengthen by, would interactively follow the path of the lengthened...

For those not following, ray and xline has steadily been pouring into the Git version for the past couple of days.

Construction lines
It would be very useful if there was a quick way of creating construction lines, ie. infinite lines defined by some parameters. I found http://www.cad-addict.com/2009/01/autocad-drawing-construction-lines.html that describes a bit how AutoCAD does (or did, in 2009) it. What I have oftentimes is a se...

Re: Getting started
I had the similar problem after moving to Debian Wheezy recently (that is, it comes with Qt 4.8.2, whereas closest script bindings are for 4.8.1 in Git). I just copied the 4.8.1 directory to 4.8.2 (it could have needed a trivial modification or two of some .pro as well) -- it's probably not optimal ...

Re: Rubber lines and block snap points
I've been giving this some more thought, and it indeed seems QCAD is not the right base for this kind of application.
Thanks for the great insights, guys!

Rubber lines and block snap points
I am contemplating a thought experiment (operative words being contemplating and thought experiment :) ) of trying to turn QCAD into being able to create electrical wiring diagrams. It is kind of like an eletronics schematic, but it describes, in varying degrees, but relatively hight level o, detail...
