A simple set of vertical lines

Inexperienced cad/qcad user!

I did one (very useful) drawing a few months ago, so more or less
starting from scratch here as I've forgotten a lot...

Wanting to enter a set of simple vertical lines, I find that the reference
manual gives *no* complete concrete examples of command lines to do this.

The 'option toolbar' in the reference manual section 6.6
dimensions menu entry
View - Views -Option Toolbar
but what I find in the menus is View - Toolbars - (a list of toolbars).

The application window in section 6.1 has an 'Option Toolbar' line
which I don't seem to be able to find, even though the 'Toolbar' option in
the list of toolbars is present.

When I select the vertical line button (click on it) what might be the
option toolbar shows up but not in the way the section 17.3 Horizontal/Vertical
lines reference manual page says it should. And I don't understand
how to type the horizontal location of the vertical line (in my case, -0.67
is the horizontal location of one of them). The 'Specify Position [angle/length]"
makes little sense to me (sorry) as I don't know what literally to type
to get such a line to appear
and an angle makes no sense for a vertical line.

Sorry for the raw newbie question..
Thanks for any suggestions.

Just discovered that View->toolbars->Tool options (with tool options
checked) gets me an 'amost an Options Toobar' in that a tooltip
in a blank area says Length Of Line but the Length and
Snap Point in the ref man section 17.3 don't appear.
I vaguely recall they *did* appear once a few minutes ago...
