[SOLVED] Splitting (M,S) an object not working

Post by Joern » Mon Nov 19, 2012 1:02 pm

Hallo Clive,
whenever I try to do that the action is not successful. I need the splitted points to measure distances.
Can you help?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Save auxiliary lines to file when splitting (M,S) an ob

[EDIT] I think I understand your question better now: You would like to make those auxiliary lines which indicate where entities are being split up a part of your drawing.
This is not possible since these lines are only shown to give you an indication of what the tool with the chosen parameters does. Adding these lines to the drawing is not a part of this tool.

After applying the tool, you can of course use the measuring tools to measure the distance from one segment to the next.

Hallo Andrew,
splitting successful, saving not. No warnings.
The object I want to split is an arc.
The following detour works: Select contour (T,C), then measure, then save.

Just so we're on the same page: after using the splitting tool, you cannot save the drawing to a file on disk (i.e. no file is created or the file you save has size zero), is this correct?

Hallo Andrew,
the original file is on disk. After applying the splitting tool to the arc I wanted to overwrite it and save it with the findings of the splitting tool. That doesn´t work.
I can´t tell you whether there is a zero size file created.
Regards and thank you for your bother so far

I have some additional questions to narrow the problem down:
How do you conclude that the saving failed? Is the file empty after reloading it? Or does it load fine but the arc is still the original arc (not split up)? Thanks.

I'm starting to suspect a simple handing problem. Splitting up works as follows:
1. Select the entities you want to split up (e.g. the arc)
2. Modify - Split Entities
3. Adjust options in options tool bar (number of segments)
4. Click the button with the green tick in the options toolbar to confirm
5. Terminate the tool with a right-click or Escape

Step 4 is crucial and was probably left out.

Hallo Andrew,
thank you for your advice.

That did the trick.I wasn´t aware that you have to click the green tick.

Kind regards
