Problems with "loop not closed at point"

Post by Ribol » Fri Feb 20, 2015 11:18 am

Hi all,

New to Qcad, or any other CAD software for that matter so be gentle with me :D

I am trying to do a simple (or so I thought  ) drawing of my garage and need to fill in the panels with a hatch pattern, eg Brick.

The problem is that the rectangles I want to fill in cannot be filled because the "loop not closed at point ........."

If I zoom right in to the offending point it looks like a good "join" but in the software's eyes it is an open loop and therefore stopping the hatch tool coming into operation.

If I use the line tool, draw a random triangle, highlight the three points I can fill it in with whatever I want no problem - so the problem is with my garage drawing, not the software, but obviously me.

I have already Googled and read untold stuff but still no answer.

So finally my question:

If I draw two long horizontal lines, then draw two vertical lines between them, how can I ensure there will be no open loop?

I am thinking it might have something to do with snapping to the lines, but if I knew the answer I wouldn't be here.

Many thanks in advance for any help given.

Could you please attach your drawing file?

One common mistake is that there are multiple lines on top of each other.

Firstly, thanks for your reply.

I don't think it is a multiple lines over other lines issue.

I have just emailed Customer Services and attached the drawing file, hopefully it will have turned up(?).

I suspect this is something simple that I am doing wrong, but everything is simple when you know how.

I have never touched a CAD program of any kind before this week, I suspect that might have something to do with my problem :?

Please make sure that you select only the four lines that define the door for hatching:

The shape to hatch always has to form a closed path with each entity connecting to the next one at end points.

Thanks for your reply Andrew, I think(?) I see where I have been going wrong.

I think you are saying, that if for example you have two horizontal lines with two vertical lines between them, for the hatching tool to work the vertical lines can only be at the ends of the horizontal lines?

So if the horizontal lines are longer and you want to use the hatching tool you have to cut them so the two ends on the middle piece of the line are at the ends of the vertical lines, if that makes sense?

Is that correct?

Yes, correct.

For an example, have a look at the user manual under Help > Reference Manual or online at:
