Can't modify lines in a copy of a drawn object

Post by nofate » Thu Mar 05, 2015 7:18 pm

Windows 7, ver 3.7.7. Why can't I use modify tools on a copy that is made into a block? When I try to point to a line I want to trim some red text appears above the command line saying this is not an entity.

Hello nofate,

could you please attach a test drawing for testing. Thank you!
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.

To modify entities inside a block, you have to open the block for editing:
- Block > Edit Block from Reference
- Click your block reference in the drawing
- Only the block contents (block definition) is now shown
- You can modify the block like any other drawing
- When you're done, you can return to the main drawing by choosing Block > Return to Main Drawing

The reasons for this behaviour are:
- Blocks can be inserted at any scale, angle and location. Editing blocks in the main drawing would usually not be practical.
- Blocks can be inserted (reused) multiple times. Editing one block reference in your drawing would modify the block definition and therefore all references to that block. For example a single trim operation of a line that is part of a block would lead to likely unnoticed trims in all other references of that block.
