Entity properties vs attributes

Can someone explain the differences between property editing and attribute editing. I can see that one is a subset of the other, but suspect that some entities may have less suttle differences?

For the benefit of others, here is the answer to my previous post.

Properties of an entity have to do with the layer location, positioning and shape of the selected entity, while the attributes have to do with the layer location and pen qualities for that entity.

So you use the one that contains what you want to change with that entity.
