Layer attribute - No Pen

I would like to insert entities into my drawing that do not print and are not visible on the screen (an invisible reference point)
I have created a layer with "line type" attribute = "No Pen", however this attribute is being amended to "Continuous" if I save and retrieve the drawing. Saving the drawing as a library item and inserting has a similar effect.
All the other "Color", "Width", and "Line type" selections are working and saving as expected
My OS Is Windows 7
