Insert a building block into an OS map

I have successfully opened a DXF file of an Ordnance Survey and want to insert a building from file that I have created previously. However, having created the block of the building, it is imported at a scale hundreds of times bigger than the map although the measurements still scale the correct dimensions!
The same thing happens when copying with reference and pasting the building into the window with the map.
What am I doing wrong?
