ASCII DXF vs BINARY DXF

What file format does QCad prefer. I have a program that will convert the DWG files I have to ether (2004 or earlier) ASCII DXF or BINARY DXF. Is there a preference of one or the other?

QCAD does not read binary DXF files. In fact this file type is very rarely used.
