You could change the grid spacing to for example 10000x10000.

I see this post is old but I found it while looking for away to get rid of snapping to grid in Auto snap and thought it might help someone else. I edited Application Preferences (under the Edit menu) and disabled "Automatically scale grid". The Auto snap still finds all the other snap points but this stops it from snapping to the grid. Note that it also turns the grid display off so if you want to see the grid but not snap to it this might not be suitable for you.

It would be very nice in the future to be able to configure Auto snap to personal preference.

 if I try so... qcad dies definitively and I have to reinstall it, does the same even on different machines
