Slow display (Was: Fonts missing in linux 2.2.2.0 package?)

I just installed qcad2.2.2.0 and was wondering where the labels disappeared from my dimensions. The dimension settings where fine. Then I noticed that there was no fonts-directory in the package so I copied one from my old qcad 2.1.3.2. No the labels for the dimensions did show but qcad became sluggish. Any ideas?

I downloaded the linux package for qcad 2.2.2.0 again and now the fonts-directory was included. But qcad is still very slow. Clicking on tools and trying to draw will take a few seconds to process etc.

Poor performance has most likely to do with your graphics card driver. If you have an NVidia card, please make sure the NVidia drivers are installed:

But I had no such problems with qcad 2.1.3.2 in the exact same system.

The non-technical explanation is that the display of QCAD 2.1 is different from QCAD 2.2.

The technical explanation is that QCAD 2.1 displays previews in XOR mode (inverted color). QCAD 2.2 displays previews in real colors which requires double-buffering. Double-buffering can be very slow with default display drivers.

Installing the correct drivers will likely also increase the display performance of other applications, such as movie players, games, etc.

Thanks Andrew! I have an ATI Radeon video card. Ubuntu installed as default the first ATI driver down the list. My card was filed under the name "Radeon - ATI ...". Changing the driver fixed the problem.

(Maybe you should rename this thread to something more informative since my problem had nothing to do with the missing fonts in the end?)

Anyway, thanks a lot your swift reply and for a great and sensibly priced product (I like your book too)! If I would also get my infinite line howto question solved, I would be a happy man (until the next problem ;o)!
