step by step process for importing a bitmap (ex. *.png file)

I've done some searching and it appears I should be able to import a file of type PNG but I've been unsuccessful with getting it into QCAD. Need help with a step-by-step process for doing this.

QCAD version is 2.2.2.0 Professional,

OS is Mac OSX version 10.5.8
