How do I create "inverted" text

Post by Ekki » Thu Oct 20, 2011 8:32 am

Hello qCAD-Forum,
I am designing the labeling of a box. I only have one color. To highlight a special label I want to use the pen color as background and leave the letters unpainted. My approach was to draw a filled hatch and to write the text in the background color of the drawing. Unfortunately it seems to be not possible to write in white when the drawing background is white using EDIT-ATTRIBUTE-COLOR. I also tried to choose a color that is close to white from the user defined color tab. This looks nice in the fist view. But after saving and reopen the drawing, the text with the user defined color is black again.
Has somebody any idea how to create text in the background color or a different appoach for text in "inverted color mode"?
Many thanks in advance for any help!

Ekki

P.S.: I use qCAD 2.1.3.2 with SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10.3

QCAD automatically corrects black on a black background with white on a black background and white on a white background with black on a white background. This way drawings can be exchanged between users who prefer to work with a black background (default) and users who work with a white background without having to change the drawing.

Choosing a color close to white should work as long as the color is not 'too close'. DXF only supports a subset of the colors available in QCAD, so colors are rounded to the next possible match when exporting to DXF.

QCAD 3 (currently beta) offers an option to disable automatic color correction: Edit - Application Preferences - Graphics View - Auto correct black and white colors.

You can download a QCAD 3 trial here:

I've also sent you an update coupon in case you are interested to update.
