FS#1159 - Add preference for button option instead of drop down menu for some tools
For some tools like the Horizontal or vertical line, it would be good to have button options (similar to infinite and ray line buttons) instead of the drop down menus.
Are you referring to the reference point (start, middle end) option?
If so, do you have any ideas for recognisable icons to distinguish start point from end point?
Thanks.
Yes the reference points.
To be honest just a simple red point at the correct location is all you need (see attached screenshot showing idea for buttons for horizontal lines), using software like CAD it's all about the visual experience for most 'end users' - so I think users would soon get the idea and of course you would have the tool tips when hovering over the buttons with the mouse.
OK, thanks.
It's always difficult to decide what should be represented as icon and what as text. I also get feedback from users who think that all tool buttons should only contain texts (e.g. 'lin', '2P', etc.)! Of course arguably, one could also make everything customisable, but that has the downside that there would be no 'one' QCAD anymore as QCAD would look totally different on each installation. Anyway, let's see if this issue gets any votes / other opinions.
Yes, I suppose putting my request into perspective, I guess each user might have their own ideas about how QCAD should look. Like you say time will tell.
I'm a lazy guy! The use of Icons means one click instead of 2 in the pull-down menu. And I think it will improve the work flow ...
Yes, I like the idea!
The option you have added in 3.7.6 for 'Draw Rectangle with size' - 'Add hotkeys to change reference point [1-9]' would be ideal to add this option for aklso selecting reference points for tools like the Horizontal and Vertical Line tools (and others).
Good idea, yes.
Thanks
Hey, not that we want to keep you busy, I think that speaks for itself :)
An Icon set would also support the idea for Rays in the 180 and 270 degree direction.
See FS#1102
A drop down box returns an option value, removing the middle option would complicate things.
