FS#1974 - File > Print Preview: Cannot move paper in new drawing

Yesterday I set up a Windows 64 bit install of QCAD Pro which shows the same bug I have been seeing for a while in the Community linux git repo.

Create a new drawing and then go to “Print preview”. Enable “Move paper postion”, the cursor changes to the hand icon, but the paper position is unable to be moved. Only by saving the drawing, exiting the program, restarting and reopening the drawing, will the “Move paper postion” function correctly.

Affected versions tested:

Windows 64bit installer download, as of yesterday.
Linux 64bit build from git, about 20minutes ago.

For what it’s worth, this bug is not present in this previous git checkout:

Version:
3.21.1.0 (3.21.1)
Internet:
QCAD.org
Build Date:
Jul 2 2018
Revision:

Qt Version:
5.7.0
Architecture:
x86_64
Compiler:
gcc 6.3.1

Thanks for a great product.

Strangely, I couldn't reproduce this with either 3.23.0, 3.23.0.3 nor the current development version on Windows, Linux or macOS.

Here's how I proceed:
1. Launch QCAD
2. File > New
3. File > Print Preview
4. Click icon to move paper
5. Move mouse to paper, press and hold left mouse button
6. Move mouse to move paper
7. Let go of left mouse button

Let me know if you proceed differently.

You also might want to try resetting your configuration (be sure to backup):
https://qcad.org/en/tutorial-resetting-the-qcad-configuration

If that causes the problem, please attach your QCAD3.ini file.

Hi Andrew,

I'm at work and have just installed the Windows 64 trial version, (never previously installed), and it shows the same problem. The only difference to what you tried, is I actually drew something.

So, grid set for mm:

1. Launch QCAD
2. File > New
3. Draw → Shape → Rectangle with Size
4. Width 100 Height 50
5. Left click to place rectangle
6. File > Print Preview
7. Click icon to move paper
8. Move mouse to paper, press and hold left mouse button
9. Move mouse to move paper
8. Paper does not move.

Odd.. I cannot reproduce under the exact same conditions. What are the preferences you choose during the first start (paper size, unit, etc)?

Hi Andrew,

The only thing I changed on the initial startup this morning, was inches to mm.

Regards,

Richard

Thanks. I still cannot reproduce this here. I'll have to leave this open until we can find a reproducible use case.

Hi Andrew,

Am starting to doubt my abilities, but have now reproduced this on three different PCs, (and two OSs), and have not had a problem prior to the earlier git version mentioned in the first post.

Tomorrow I'll try again, meticulously documenting everything, although I thought I already had - the last two Windows installs were on third party PCs that aren't mine.

OK, thanks. Please do also indicate what all the exact settings are in the initial start up dialog. The defaults depend on your system and printer (e.g. paper size). Alternatively, please attach the file QCAD3.ini from one of your installations.

Hi Andrew,

I think I have found a repeatable case, which I have confirmed on both my Linux git latest and a third Windows install. Both started with no .conf or .ini file.

Startup dialog for both:

Lang: English
Unit: MM
Default paper: A4
Decimal point: Dot
Background colour: Black

As before and on both machines, the following sequence does not move the paper:

1. Launch QCAD
2. File > New
3. Draw → Shape → Rectangle with Size
4. Width 100 Height 50
5. Left click to place rectangle
6. File > Print Preview
7. Click icon to move paper
8. Move mouse to paper, press and hold left mouse button
9. Move mouse to move paper
10. Paper does not move.

If I add the following to the above, it works correctly on both:

6.5. Right mouse click

I'm guessing that at step 7 in the first case, "Draw shape rectangle with size" is still active and the right click is required to cancel it and perhaps this is desired behaviour, but it is a change from what happened a few versions back.

I guess I'm assuming that when I open the print preview, I'm not expecting to be doing any more drawing there.

Regards,

Richard

Thanks. Confirmed. I’d recommend to exit the current tool before switching to print preview.
