FS#562 - Layer "Black/White" color from Qcad2 not kept in v3

I made several drawings for my building renovation project, using Qcad Pro v2.2.2.

I’m used to have a white background and selected adequate colors for my layers : quotations in black or blue, legends in black too etc. When I started QCAD 3rc5, I choose white background in the 1st application launch startup screen.

OK, the background is white. But now I see that ALL “black” items are de facto in white, making them hard to read as you can believe.

Why are the colors I choose for my layers not kept in this QCAD 3 ? I remember ;-) that in v2, one of the standard color choices was “Black/white” ; I assumed the actual choice of black or white was somehow related to the then selected background.

Is there a kind of a setting or a miracle procedure to allocate all previous “Black/White” color to pure black ? Or to add a provision in the startup screen to select which Black or White color to assign to the previous “Black/White” color.

I’m facing a hard choice :
- use a non-white background ? Pale-blue could be nice ... but I would still be forced to change my ex-black-now-white layers color. Black or dark background is not recommended in view of eye strain : should I be back to old monochrome VDU ? Printed paper are easier to read with black text on white paper, aren’t they ?
- modify manually all layers which were changed “à l’insu de mon plein gré” from black to white, and in all my drawings ? Not enough time, sure !

I kept a copy of QCAD 2 in a different folder "QCAD Pro 2" before installing QCAD 3. This allows me to make a simple test with Q2 : opening a drawing (not yet opened in Q3), I see the white background and my legends, quotations, etc in black. Using the "Applications preferences", I changed the background to black... and .... all my legends, quotations, etc are in white : very easy to read. Back to white background : items are back in black. Thus the behavior of QCAD3 is drastically divergent from QCAD 2, IMHO ;-).

Please make sure that you have checked "Prevent white on white / black on black display" in the application preferences under "Graphics View".

Thank you, Andrew, for your quick answer and letting me discover this setting, I guess under the label "Auto correct black and white lines" below "Entities" under "Graphics view" (1). And it works fine...

But I don't understand why a copy (2) of another Q2 drawing, opened in Q3 before modifying this setting, correcly displayed my black cotations and legends on a white background. Possibly, changing the background color in the Settings in another Q3 session doesn't have the same impact as changing it only in the application startup screen ? Or is it a kind of auto-learning curve ;-) ? For the program, I mean, not for me, I'm way too old for that...

Just to mention, I have an impression that when I open a Q2 drawing with Q3 and close it, then I'm asked if I want to save my changes, even if I didn't make any change in the drawing. Maybe is it just because I looked at the setting and closed them with [OK] even without modifying any of them. I may have a deeper look at it.
CHECKED : It's not the settings checking nor the auto-save feature, it may be just because before closing I elected to hide all layers and then to show them again : this may be the case as the color of some hatches is changed (I prepare another report). In Q2, changing the layer display scheme doesnt' trigger the "save changes" question.

Kind regards,

(1) I better put my suggestion in a separate subject...
(2) now I make 2 copy of each Q2 drawing with a "_Q2" and a "_Q3" suffix to avoid any interference between the 2 versions.

Some unexpected good news, at least IMHO ;-) because I found a workaround... when I was working on the problem of some hatch color not correctly displayed. Read my Report #563 "Hatches and colors transformed in Q3". For your convenience, I reproduce the essential here.

I launch Q3 and uncheck the setting "Auto correct black and white colors" (1) in the "Entities" section of the "Graphics View" ; the background color is set to white (according to my preferences). I close Q3.

I double-click a Q3 copy of a genuine Q2 file to open it with Q3 and to my big surprise, all my "Black/White" layers are displayed in Black, my light/pale green and similar custom colors are correctly distinct.

(1) Actually and currently, it seems that this setting also takes care of colors very near to white or black, but for me with a too large idea of this "near" aspect.

I will close this task as this is very likely taken care of with the configurable threshold in the next release.
