FS#978 - "Frequently used" items for text

Just floating an idea, recently I’ve had to use the diameter symbol many times in texts. At this moment it’s a chore, as that usually means browser, look for a page with symbol in it, copy, paste.

I wonder if the text entry could have some sort of a box for “frequently used” characters (or even phrases, or whatnot, but I presume a handful special characters that everyone can tailor to their needs would already be a huge plus)? Like, a 3×3 to 5×5 matrix below the Alignment panel or something along these lines.

In the text dialog, you can click on the Omega symbol at the top right to insert special characters.

In the property editor and other text inputs, you can right-click into the text input field and then choose "Insert Symbol".

Ah, good enough. The Omega symbol doesn't show in Simple text mode (which is mostly what I work with), this is why it didn't register.

Maybe the Special characters menu could be moved outside the Rich text toolbar? They do make sense in simple text mode too.

On the other hand, it is true that the Rich text input can be used as Simple text by simply not using the rich text features, so... Any way you see fit. Feel free to close this ticket.

OK, I've opened a new request for inserting special characters in simple text mode:
