Absolutely love the new options for adding the measurements in the current drawing.

I would like to see an additional option for only adding the text and not the lines also, maybe a simple check box would suffice here.

Of course at the moment I am able to use the property editor to select only the lines and move to a new layer and hide!

Es wäre schön wenn ich Werte wie zum Beispiel Längen von Linien direkt abgreifen könnte um diese weiter in Berechnungen verwenden zu können.

Beispiel:
Ich habe eine Linie konstruiert wobei sich eine Länge y ergeben hat.

Nun möchte ich eine Linie zeichnen die 5 mal y sein soll.

Linientool → Wert 5* eingeben und y durch Auswahl mit der Maus von dem vorhandenen Elements übernehmen.

Natürlich könnte ich die Geometrie Info benutzen um den Wert abzulesen oder auch über die Zwischenablage zu benutzen. Ein abgreifen mit der Maus wäre aber schneller, direkter und wahrscheinlich auch mit weniger Fehlern (Human error) verbunden. Wahrscheinlich auch genauer da QCad, denke ich, mit mehr Nachkommastellen rechnet, oder?

I have noticed that in QCAD 3 rc4 it is not possible to open and edit font files.
This feature exists in version 2.2 and is indispensable to people using not common languages.
For example the unicode font does not have all greek characters, so I have added a few of the missing ones by editing the unicode.cxf font with version 2.2.
I kindly ask the designers to consider enabling this capability again.

Being able to fill an area with a bitmap would be a nice addition to the already impressive feature list of QCAD.

Since this is not supported by Qt anymore, this would likely have to be implemented from scratch.

Add handle attribute to exported SVG tags to identify exported DXF entities.

Dear Andrew, just in case you should ever run out of ideas for enhancements; As an advisor I sometimes get PDF files and recently, some CAD drawings contained layers, which is kind of nifty to reduce the clutter.

Sadly though, qprinter/qpainter seem to be unaware of OCG (Optional Content Groups, the PDF jargon for layers) at the moment, so my plea is for the back burner now. Probably in SVG though it can be done? Yet that is of a little less use, maybe…

When working with several files is normal also to work in several folders, this can be confusing, expecially in the case where there are different folders with equal file names.
I propose the creation of a “Open file location”. This, probably under the main menu, “File”, when clicked would open the standard
“file explorer” with the folder that contains the current file already selected.
It would be quite similar to the windows 8/10 “Open file location”.

in many tasks in qcad I ended up exporting one or several layers into individual files for some cnc jobs or further processing. So the steps I usually do are:

• select all elements on the layer
• paste into new drawing
• sometimes rename layer names or attributes
• adjust dimension settings
• save and give name for drawing

Sometimes I have up to 100 layers I need to export like this, so an automatic export for all would be time saving too. But very often a “single click” export method would also help a lot. (e.g. inside the layer list an entry in the right click menue like “save as new file”). Also a multiple selection would be handy if more that one layer should end up in the new file. (e.g. select the three layers that need to be in the new document, then right click and save as new file). Maybe this is too much of changes needed inside the layer list - so something like a separate layer export dialogue would make sense.

When exporting many layers some variables for automatic naming of layers and filename would make sense e.g. user can specify basename_%L.dxf to get the basename_layername.dxf or just an increasing number.

For layers and attributes it is often needed to give a layer a certain name or color for different cnc processes (e.g. engraving and cutting for lasers) or to put everything on layer “0” because of some old CAM software that only supports content on layer 0.

probably many more details would make sense that I didn’t think of yet...

Feature request- text string find/replace

Scope: entire drawing/selected objects set/chosenlayer only

Functionality:

‘find’ with ‘zoom to’, first, next, previous, last

‘replace’ with ‘next’, ‘undo’, ‘all’

This functionality is very useful when using QCad for system diagrams and the like.

To add another Arc tool option in Arc tools set:

1.Specify Start point for Arc.
2.Specify End point for Arc.
3.Specify “Tangent” direction (without being restricted in input field) so you can visually select a point on your desired Tangent line!

It would be very useful to have an extra option to only detect duplicates within a user defined area.

It would be nice to have the possibility to control the automatic Text orientation in Block attributes.
Something what would work like the DIM restriction: I can read the text horizontal and/or from the right side of the drawing sheet.

Right now I have the feeling that the Text orientation is dependent on the tool what I even use.
Different tools = different outcomes.

When working with the isometric grid (in any projection - Top, Right, Left) and drawing from ‘scratch’ as it were, without using the projection tools - I find myself using ‘Line from Angle’ the most.

It would be extreamly useful to be presented with two extra buttons when using this tool, a 30 degree button and a -30 degree button, this way I wouldn’t need to keep typing in the angle difference here.

Two useful commands make it necessary to

1-”delete all the history of the command lines without terminating QCad” ; and

2-”export attributes to the CSV file as exported to the Blocks List”

When exporting to SVG it would be helpful if there was a selection of layers to export.
E.g. when selecting only layer A in the SVG export dialog, only the objects located/displayed on layer A would be exported to SVG.

As an alternative or additional export feature, there could be an option to export each (non-empty) layer to a separate SVG in one step.
The layer names could be used as (part of the) default file names during the export.
E.g. Layer A of file XYZ would be exported to “XYZ_A.SVG” while layer B would be exported to “XYZ_B.SVG” etc.

Is it possible to add?

Autodes DWG TrueView 2017 has this function and it is very useful.

Win 7 32 bit QCAD 3.20.1

Ofsset of a base-line with arcs results in massive ammount of errors.
Most of them occur as a cluster of very tiny segments and are part of the offset. (zoom far in at the red circles)
Mostly they occur where the offsetted arcs should merely be trimmend pairwise.
Some occur as detached entities or as detached strings of entities very near the offset (strings not documented).
Spooks occur at opposite site when base-line is not closed.
360° curls can occur with R = Offset.
Null-entities may occur (not documented, hard to find and not able to copy).

The base-line is checked and sound and has mixed tangentially or not tangentially connected arcs.
Offsetting the mother base-line of the base in the file has similar effect but not all and/or different ones.
Also encountered with offseting polys from fonts.
Used to define pocket paths for CNC.
Detected because the CNC driver will not accept Self-crossers, Null-entities or open ends depending on the settings.

Work arround is to explode and select small entities but this does not solves the issues.
1) Choosing the tolerance large enough will detect small segments that should stay.
2) Recombining will generate new ones at the place where the main segments remain crossed.
Cleaning up the paths is a daunting process with some thousand segments for several offsets.

I assume this has an infuence on the CAM part of QCAD too unless the offset method is different.

Modify the “purge layer” tool to preserve empty layers with a locked status.

When double clicking on an entry in the layer list just nothing happens.
I would prefer if this would directly open the layer attributes dialog to change color/name etc.

It would be extreamly useful to have an option to either use - or not use leader lines in the standard horizontal/vertical dimension line tools, some of the drawings I’m working on need the ‘standard’ looking dimensions with leader lines and some don’t. its a real pain to have to select - explode and delete all the leaders I don’t need.

Add support for custom dimension labels created in 3rd party applications. Such labels may contain text that is stripped by QCAD.

Git head as well as 3.4.5 (trial), both with dxflib 3.3.4.0.

Start up QCAD, (with existing or new configuration, doesn’t seem to matter), “Save as” the completely empty drawing, choose “R15 (dxflib)” on Pro (only this one is available on community), save drawing.

Fire up AutoCAD 2000, try to load the empty drawing just saved.

Result:

DXF read error
Error in APPID Table
DXF read error on line 941.
Invalid or incomplete DXF input -- drawing discarded.

Problem not present when a completely empty drawing saved using Teigha in R15 format is opened (ie. it just results in an empty drawing in AutoCAD 2000). Problem is also not present when saving an existing drawing with Pro (trial) with Teigha and opening it in AutoCAD 2000. Problem does present when trying to open a dxflib-saved drawing in AutoCAD 2000.

Empty drawings created with both dxflib 3.3.4.0 in QCAD Pro 3.4.5 trial and Teigha whatever in QCAD Pro trial 3.4.5 are attached. (Community Git 135fd0 is identical to Pro - same dxflib version.)

Implement a command line switch to only show a list of given layers for dwg2* command line tools.

Add a command line switch to dwg2pdf to export a given block instead of “*Model_Space”.

Add support to specify multiple blocks (layouts) to output (one per page).

We currently have a paper-space using two viewports with different layers from the model-space frozen. Unfortunately in the pdf output the layers which are frozen show up.
dwg2pdf should obey the specific frozen layer for each viewport

Hi, I get anoyed everytime saving a drawing;

 File Format not recommended.......          [Yes]   ; I know. it's suppose to be in that format!
 Saving to file......                        [OK]    ; I already told you
 Black entities ......bla bla                [OK]    ; I already told you
 Custom colors ...... bla bla                [OK]    ; I already told you

Therefore, Drawing Preferences should start with the file format choice field;

 File Format: R.......

Drawing should be opened and saved in that format without any question. Please.

Add intersection, union, difference, XOR operations for closed polylines.

Add option to define length (end point) using mouse pointer.

If reference point is “Middle”, extend line from middle in both directions to mouse cursor (?).

I would love to have a ‘Double Line’ tool in QCAD.

For me this would be such a time saver when drawing out building floor plans in QCAD.

It would be nice (and a time-saver!) to have an additional option in the alignment tool: Distribute entities / blocks equally.

It would be useful to have an additional option to be able to count/add up consecutive distances measured with this tool ;)

Block with hatch scaled with factor in X different from factor in Y leads to problems if contour contains arcs (which cannot / are not scaled disproportionally).

... doesn’t works proper at circles and ellipses.

Circles: the scale works only proportional even though I have the options for x and y.
Ellipses: The same but if I play around with the x, y fields it will freeze the scale possibility.

Support disproportional scaling also for arcs, ellipses, other entities, not only lines and polylines with only line segments.

Go to:
Text → Special Characters → Others → “Character Map” pops up.
Adjust Zoom to 100% = display problem (not enough space for the single character.

See drawing: I can’t seem to be able to manually change to the “To” variants – that is, override the decision of the label/arrow placement engine.

The circle in the attachment is a borderline example of when even just in this form I would more like it on the outside. If the drawing is crowded in that area, it would be even more useful to have it the other way around.

Approximation value for dimensioning, i.e. for example:
approximate to .5
measured valure 11.3456 > displayed value 11.5

Dimensioning - add option to split dimensions.

To have an option to split the extension lines if they run over other entities.

Dimensioning - add option to insert text in the middle of dimension.

To have an option to have text aligned in the middle of the dimension line, rather than above it.

Dimensioning - add option for horizontal text alignment.

Basically an option in drawing preferences to align text horizontally instead of vertically.

Support custom dimension text styles for imported DXF / DWG files.

This one is a really important one for me, as currently I am doing a lot of dimension and annotation drawings.
I would like to request an option to be added to the dimension settings for both drawing and application settings to be able to choose whether the dimension text is to the right or left side or over the top or underneath the dimension line.
This would help tremendously when a lot of dimensions are needed!
