Tools to add control points to existing splines and remove control points.

Most of the other slightly non-standard CAD/eCAD tools I work with (e.g. Diptrace, PTC Creo Elements) use the right mouse button to drag.
So when changing between these applications, it’s slightly confusing/annoying that I need the middle mouse button to drag in QCad.
Even worse, the middle mouse button on most mice is the scroll wheel which is not really comfortable to hold while dragging.

So I’d propose an option to switch the function of the middle and right mouse button to allow users to choose the preferable option.

It would be great to have a tick box to be able to offset a polyline from both sides/edges at once.

Maybe a similar feature could be added to the line -parallel tools?

E.g. use Millimeters for construction while dimensions are displayed in Meters.

Save layer state (visibility) with each added view object (optional?).

Would it be possible to have options for:

1.Enable or disable Snap label with text.

2.To have a ‘Snap Marker’ with style and colour choice instead of snap label.

* It would be good for users to have the choice.

Would it be possible to have the choice of either dashed or solid lines for the large cross hairs?

Would it be possible to have the choice to dock or not dock toolbars - in other words keep them floating, an additional option in the tool settings could be added?

Often in print preview I need to move the paper around and position it with the ‘Move Paper Position’ tool, which is useful, but what would be an additional extra useful option would be a ‘Place Paper Here’ tool.

Then I could simply use this tool first and then use the ‘Move Paper Position’ tool afterwards to fine tune things!

If you look at the attached image you will see that in this students file they have got their drawing spread out all over the place:(

When starting QCAD it will open a new, untitled, page causing me to close that, click through the saving option to discard changes and then load up the project i’m working on. It would be nice to have the option for the program to start with the last used project.
I checked the application preferences to see if this option was already possible as it’s common with other applications but couldn’t find it. In ‘Startup’ (the obvious place for it) there was only an option for the splash screen.

Dear Andrew, just in case you should ever run out of ideas for enhancements; As an advisor I sometimes get PDF files and recently, some CAD drawings contained layers, which is kind of nifty to reduce the clutter.

Sadly though, qprinter/qpainter seem to be unaware of OCG (Optional Content Groups, the PDF jargon for layers) at the moment, so my plea is for the back burner now. Probably in SVG though it can be done? Yet that is of a little less use, maybe…

I think it’s a useful adition and makes it easy to select objects that are overlapped. I know there is a selection filter, but sometimes this is faster and/or all the objects share the same type and such things.

If I remember correctly, Inkscape has this behaviour.

Add drop object along a path with automatic trim.

1. The object can be a selection before or after selecting the tool, an entity or a block.

1. The path can be another entity from a start point to an end point.

1. Dropping can be made on one side or the other (like in other tools depending on the side of the cursor), with a choice of miroring the object or not.

1. The number of drops or the distance between can be selected.

1. The distance can be between a control point of the object or its sysmetry axis or border.

1. The dropping direction can be selected too.

1. The droping depth can be constrained : all control points have passed the path, or one of them. Alternatively, replace control points by an entity belonging to the object.

Exemple of use case : equidistant drills in a curved rail. The dropping depth constraint enables for example to ensure a drill has a minimal depth when not orthogonal to a plan.

Change a quote value modify the drawing + link quotes with entities

In other words, makes quotes editable AND linked to entities.

• Today in the properties, the value is read only. Being able to edit the value would modify the linked entity properties to fit the new quote.

• Changing a property would change the linked quotes accordingly. Today, if I change a circle diameter which is quoted, the quote remain where it was and is no more relevant.

If I have to do some kind of intense tasks like converting a previous Polyline, which is now exploded to lines (maybe a couple hundred thousand short lines) back to a polyline (Polyline/Create from Segments) QCAD needs time to do that. In this “working time” I can’t see any indicator that QCAD is working. Not a Hourglass on the mouse or some other indicator. I have just the feeling: Nothing is going on right now ...

It would be nice to have some kind of visual info that QCAD is working.

Hi, I get anoyed everytime saving a drawing;

 File Format not recommended.......          [Yes]   ; I know. it's suppose to be in that format!
 Saving to file......                        [OK]    ; I already told you
 Black entities ......bla bla                [OK]    ; I already told you
 Custom colors ...... bla bla                [OK]    ; I already told you

Therefore, Drawing Preferences should start with the file format choice field;

 File Format: R.......

Drawing should be opened and saved in that format without any question. Please.

Add handle attribute to exported SVG tags to identify exported DXF entities.

New Tool Request:

To have a tool to make any given line which is ‘not’ orthogonal already into an orthogonal line.

For example if I had a line at 30 degrees by using the tool I could change the line to be either horizontal or vertical.

Would it be possible to arrange the Menu, CAD-Toolbar, Toolbar, Menu, Tool Matrix with customized keywords, like “simple”, advanced” and “expert” to show only a minimum for user there are begin with CAD, advanced for CAD-User, and expert for construction.

Attached DWG/DXF files are incorrectly read by QCAD.
They contain splines drawn using ZWCAD and saved as DWG/DXF version 2000.
Above splines are polylines created with autolisp routine which converts spline to polyline, so you can see how splines should actually be drawn.

First spline is created with fit points: 2,2 4,4 6,2
Then copied and applied weight of 2 on central control point.
Then copied again and applied weight of 0.5 on central control point.

Second spline is created with fit points: 6,2 8,4 10,2 with vertical start and end tangent.
Then copied and applied fit tolerance of 1 for fit points.

Third spline is created with fit points: 10,2 12,4 14,2 with horizontal start and end tangent.

Fourth and fifth spline are correctly drawn by QCAD.

Automatically set the draw order one lower than the lowest draw order of a border entity when creating a hatch. This should be a user preference, since not everyone might want that behavior.

Could it be possible to add a simple function to add a new empty drawing (like File > New) to Simple.js ? Thank you. (PS, this simple.js API is awesome, btw :D)

Hi,

I use eagle cad for pcb designs and I like its ability to snap to finer snap to grid when pressing option button (ALT in windows).
I am fine with auto grid setting, however, it would be good to also have a way to access finer grid when pressing down option button.

For example, when zoomed out, grid is 100mm apart.
When pressing down on the option button (ALT in windows), grid switches to finer 10mm.
This will save me time, zooming in to access finer grid to snap to.

Large files/large entities perform bad in QCad. There are many dxf files that are created with thousand of lines that perform reasonable in other cad’s/cam’s that qcad cannot match.

One very useful tool, that could be added would help to improve qcad performance and at the same time enlarge the dxf quality (by replacing thousand of files by arcs), would be a tool called “arc fit” where, when possible and under a determined possible error margin (user selectable) creates arcs replacing the existing lines.
This would improve the file work in QCad also improves CAM software that would work after QCad, that I think is important for many users.

For example, if it is needed to use qcad to generate toolpaths for letters, after exploding letters, the output is almost impossible to work due to the number of lines that are created. Having arcs instead of lines would greatly improve qcad use.

This is kind of related to FS#952, or rather a superset of it.

Consider the situation in the attached image. There is a perfectly good, albeit really shallow arc, making the radius somewhere in the vicinity of 600 millimeters, and the radial dimension being drawn accordingly.

Considering the other dimensions of the part, this is completely unusable, even to work with, really, but definitely so when it needs to be put on paper.

It would be nice to have some sort of “partial” (for my lack of a better word) radial/diametric dimensions where the dimension length can be adjusted.

Considering that this can be done with Leader, maybe a better (more generic) solution would be for Leader type dimensions to have options so they could automatically generate labels for various dimensions of a selected entity – sort of like having the Prefix/Tolerance/Scale options the other dimensions have, and have some additional fields there for selected entity and maybe dimension type (for example, radial or diametric for an arc-type entity).

It would be so useful to have an option to be able to detect duplicates within a given selection.

When using the info tools, like the point to point measure it would be useful to be able to select a scale as well.

For example, when I scale a drawing say to 1:20, when working on the scaled drawing I can measure accurately with the measure tool in 1:20 also, without having to keep refering to the 1:1 drawing.

Add parameters to the function DL_Dxf::writeVPort.
This way users will be able to specify the desired viewport.

According to the changelog for version 3.9.3 the info tools and coordinate display are tied to the current drawing dimensions. For much of my use I prefer to have the dimensions format different. The main reason is that my customers want to see the format in fractions, but when I am drawing I’d rather see the decimal format to make sure what I am drawing is accurate. So I’d really be interested in seeing a separate full configuration of the display and info coordinates.

Add preference to use a single, configurable color for all locked layers.

1. I cannot find a way of selecting individual dimensions and changing the precision lets say from 0.00 to 0.000 for these particular dimensions only without affecting all the rest of the dimensions in the drawing - could an option be added for doing this in the property editor or not?

2. Would it be possible to add an option in the drawing preferences so that automatically a symbol is added at the correct placement fo all dimensions, in this case a tolerance plus/minus symbol?

Hi.

I’m working currently a lot with files coming from rhino. Qcad can open them properly any also most operations on them work as usual - except the selection methods.

box select from upper left to lower right works as usual.
double click to select all connected entities is broken. (only one entity is selected).
box select from lower right to upper left does not select entities touching the selection box. (nothing is selected)

on mac os nothing is selectable with single click.
on linux single click sometimes fails (nothing is selected after clicking on a line).

Add configuarable format options in application preferences for saving blocks to library to either dxf or dwg.

An option in the drawing preferences to change the line thicknesses for arch ticks would be a huge plus, at the moment I am having to insert ‘arch tick’ blocks for this.

Add option to define length (end point) using mouse pointer.

If reference point is “Middle”, extend line from middle in both directions to mouse cursor (?).
