Add support for automatic text line wrapping for multiline text entities.

A ‘non -filled’ arrowhead would be good to have also.

The new tool “Paste along entity” is very useful! But I work mostly in mechanical engineering and would like to see more options to determine where it has to start with the first insert item.

Screenshot:

1. That is how it works right now - no chance to get it started on both ends of an line.

2. If I need to have my items also on the ends I have to use additional the normal “Paste” function.

3. If I could tell the “Paste along entity” that there is a start and end “Base” dimension then I’m a big step further.

I could tell the tool that it has to start at “0” or at “25” and the rest is just regarding the calculation. Correct?

However - you need many times in mechanical engineering etc. a hole pattern which will start at:

0,25,25,25,25,25,25,25,25,0

or

25, 123.5, 123.5, 123.5, 123.5, 123.5, 25

It would be very nice to have this also in combination with the “Paste along entity” tool

Import tables in CSV format and display them in the drawing as lines and text.

Case:

Select a block array,
put it with “Copy with reference” or “Cut with reference” into the clipboard,
choose a reference point which isn’t in the center of the array,
use the paste tool / with option “flip pasted entities”

If I flip only in horizontal or vertical direction the preview box will double in size and I can’t place the entities precisely regarding to the reference point.
If I try to flip in both directions at the same time - you can’t see this effect.

Changeable color of the selection bar in the layer list.
Now the color of the bar is darkblue and the underlaid icons are black and are not readable.

With that new feature the information tool shows the absolute paper units in the print preview mode instead of drawing units.
So you can determine the exact size of an entity in the printout without manual calculating with the drawing units and the scale factor.

After all, print preview is not just the drawing on white, isn’t it? Everything else should stay in drawing units. Just the rulers, maybe a preference?

Make dimension label decimal separator configurable (DIMDSEP).

Add support for alternate units for dimension style, for example to display units in mm and in.

I love using the context menu, speeding up my workflow indeed.

I would like to suggest that we have the added option to show only icons if desired and also that maybe an option to save and show commonly used tools!

Maybe the context menu could be configurable to show two columns, one for the normal last used tools and the othjer one for the user saved tools?

What do you think?

It would be useful to have an additional option to be able to count/add up consecutive distances measured with this tool ;)

Often I find myself clicking on an existing line to determine the angle from the property editor, then copying and pasting this info into the angle field, it would be so very useful to have an additional option in the ‘Line from Angle’ tool to be able to pick an existing entity which would automatically register and fill in the angle for me,then all I would need to do would enter the length required.

if I need to design a bolt circle (circle on circle) and the single bolt diameter and the quantity of circles are given then I can use the QCAD Polygon Tool “Polygon 2 Points of Side” ... but for the Length of the side I have to do a workaround (Line with this length) to determine the desired length.

It would be very convenient to have an additional tool for a Polygon which has the possibility to ask me for the center, corners and the length of the sides.

Not sure how difficult this would be to implement but just wondered if it is possible to have an option in QCAD to change the opacity of a colour ?

I am using mac version and I have annoying issue with trackpad.
I use qcad primary with my trackpad and under application preferences (Graphics View/Navigation), my setting is as follows.
Mouse wheel / two finger swipe: Scroll (Trackpad...
Enable pan gesture : unticked (found that enabling this often goes into pan mode when I am just moving my pointer around)
Limit zoom and scroll to prevent overflows : ticked (hoping that this would prevent weird zooming issue. I will describe what I am experiencing later this page)
Reverse mouse wheel direction for zoom :unticked
Mouse wheel zoom factor: 1.02

Things work as expected:

• panning with two finger swipe

• and the rest

Issue I am experiencing:

Often, when I am zooming in and out with two finger gestures, the view suddenly sets to some weird state and my drawing goes off the ruler.
The mouse point remains where it is.

Workaround:
Reset viewpoint with autozoom and navigate around.

Expected zoom behaviour:
I expect viewpoint to zoom in / out at where my mouse pointer is or at least the centre of current view point.

Would not it be possible to create a kind of template for printing?
We draw our room without cartridge. The cartridge will automatically appear when printed. The scaling could be automatic so that it goes in the A4 and therefore also will post the scale automatically. The name of the play could be the file name, date last saved after it the rest of the information that would be to add somehow (material index, designer, ...).

On dessine notre pièce sans cartouche. Le cartouche s’affiche automatiquement lors de son impression. La mise à l’échelle pourrais être automatique pour que ca rentre dans le A4 et donc l’échelle s’afficherai aussi en automatique. Le nom de la pièce pourrais être le nom du fichier, la date du dernier enregistrement après c’est le reste des infos qui serait à ajouter je ne sais comment (matière, indice, dessinateur, ...).

When working with several files is normal also to work in several folders, this can be confusing, expecially in the case where there are different folders with equal file names.
I propose the creation of a “Open file location”. This, probably under the main menu, “File”, when clicked would open the standard
“file explorer” with the folder that contains the current file already selected.
It would be quite similar to the windows 8/10 “Open file location”.

It would be extreamly useful to have an option to either use - or not use leader lines in the standard horizontal/vertical dimension line tools, some of the drawings I’m working on need the ‘standard’ looking dimensions with leader lines and some don’t. its a real pain to have to select - explode and delete all the leaders I don’t need.

It would be nice if the Info Tool / Add Measurement to drawing option would use the same settings like the “Dimension settings” for Font and Text height. It’s a kind of similar function in a drawing and should have the same style. Maybe with an on/off switch?

Two useful commands make it necessary to

1-”delete all the history of the command lines without terminating QCad” ; and

2-”export attributes to the CSV file as exported to the Blocks List”

It would be great when you can add a function to export a selected object as a list of points.
Is it possible to add?

Autodes DWG TrueView 2017 has this function and it is very useful.
Here you can see a screenshot of this function.

Stretching multiple points of an entity is not possible to my knowledge. I
can use the stretch tool but this gives me a rectangular selection box and
this limits my posibilities. For example when entities are over eachother.
I hope that in the future this will become more like blender. With a freedraw
selection tool and/or shift clicking multiple nodes.

To improve the flow of drawing I’d like to switch off the dialog for the rotate tool. Most of the times i use the interactive input and delete the original. So I don’t need to click a popup to acknowledge that.
I allready use the same option for the move/copy tool.

unfortunately I need to use from time to time different Units in a drawing. It works nice with the Scale possibility but to keep my drawing readable I need to label then the DIM accordingly. Sadly I don’t have a Postfix option so I work with a workaround what means I use <>”, or <>’ and <>mm in the Prefix field. If I then terminate the DIM tool and start it again I will loose my settings except the Scale Factor.

May I ask for an additional Postfix option or/and a remember functionality of those fields?

in many tasks in qcad I ended up exporting one or several layers into individual files for some cnc jobs or further processing. So the steps I usually do are:

• select all elements on the layer
• paste into new drawing
• sometimes rename layer names or attributes
• adjust dimension settings
• save and give name for drawing

Sometimes I have up to 100 layers I need to export like this, so an automatic export for all would be time saving too. But very often a “single click” export method would also help a lot. (e.g. inside the layer list an entry in the right click menue like “save as new file”). Also a multiple selection would be handy if more that one layer should end up in the new file. (e.g. select the three layers that need to be in the new document, then right click and save as new file). Maybe this is too much of changes needed inside the layer list - so something like a separate layer export dialogue would make sense.

When exporting many layers some variables for automatic naming of layers and filename would make sense e.g. user can specify basename_%L.dxf to get the basename_layername.dxf or just an increasing number.

For layers and attributes it is often needed to give a layer a certain name or color for different cnc processes (e.g. engraving and cutting for lasers) or to put everything on layer “0” because of some old CAM software that only supports content on layer 0.

probably many more details would make sense that I didn’t think of yet...

When dimensioning my drawings I always want the dimensions to be on the dimensions layer.
When adding text I want the text to be on the text layer.
When drawing an infinite line it is always a construction line, therefore I want it to be on the construction line layer.
When drawing a line segment it almost always is on my outline layer.

So I propose a new option to bind certain actions to certain layers.
Whenever those actions are selected the layer should automatically be switched.

I can imagine this being implemented in the General→Tool Settings menu, where the short cuts are defined.

Hi Andrew,

Currently the only option to insert a viewport is using the central insertion point, for better placement it would be useful to have an option to insert viewports at any of the four corners in addition to the centre.

It would be good to have an option to be able to place the text to the left or right,maybe just a simple check box? please see attached screenshot to explain. In this instance (and I have to do this a lot ;)) I had to explode the dimension entity and rearrange the text manually :(

Antartica is put in a block as segments.
Added a rounded corner as segments and as poly.
scaled X x0.5 Y x1 origin the center of the magenta circl.

The scaled version is all over the place.
Set them to color red, no use they stay black.

The reference of the block is 2000mm to the left because I tried it out far right of my design.
The cyan circle is about 400mm in diameter.

we know that you need to have always software performance in your mind to decide which features / tools can / should be implemented and on which way.

I really appreciate your effort to find the best middle way between software features and performance but I think also it’s a tough call to appraise worldwide the overall customer equipment to make the software workable to the best for everybody. That isn’t possible without compromise.

Maybe it would make sense to think about a new dialog in the “Application Preferences” to let the user decide what kind of feature are absolutely needed regarding to his/her work-task / equipment. I don’t mean that you need to cover every single thing but the main “performance jeopardy’s” should be covered with an on/off switch.

Yes I know - that isn’t done in 5 minutes but I think that can make your life easier in the long run and will cover even more customer.

There is the Synchronize attributes feature which works well. But It affects only block references in the active layout(modelspace, block layout). If I want to synchronize attributes of block references in in another blocks, i have to manually go through all blocks and run synchronize attributes feature. That is the reason I would like to modify Synchronize attributes feature to affect all block references in a drawing, or add new Deep synchronize attributes feature.

A friendly request to add an option to disable hatch rendering on “dwg2bmp” conversions.

Depending on the nature of the conversion and the density of the hatch, this may render unintelligible images (see attachments). The option could look like “-t, -nohatch” to indicate hatches should be hidden before rendering. This could potentially become an option too for “dwg2svg” or “dwg2pdf.”

Just starting with QCAD, for some hours now - really excellent user interface (compared to other low budget CADs, like DCAD, or BeckerCAD...) !

Surprisingly, point coordinates - entered via the command line, and shown with correct positions on the drawing- are not displayed correctly with the ‘dimordinate’ (DO) command.
There are no negative values, even when the center point (0;0) is right in the middle of the drawing, so points left and below should have !

Some functions / methods can generate some sort off entity or part with NaN / Null / Null-lenght ... props.
Some explicitly don’t and test their actions with isNull().

As these serve a purpose in some processes, trails of them can be part of the results.
For some users Null / Null-lenght are meaningfull, for other users these produce errors down the line.
In a few cases its a desirable feature eg. controlpoint spline.
(Allthough there are no Null props involved with equal successively controlpoints)

Many problem post on the forum are related to Null - Zero and so on.

In some cases it can’t be undone by re-editing the drawing.

This is a trim method I am missing in Qcad.

20 years ago it existed in CadKey.
You had a bunch of lines or segments.
You defined a (new) line or segment as cutter.
‘Trim All’.
You pointed at the side of the cutter entity to trim all intersecting at that side.

Only in rare cases I can use Husky’s workaround as pro.
It all depends on what else is in the clipping rectangle that is needed to trim all intended.
If of no use all single crossing entities have to be chosen one by one.

When working with multiple Viewports with different scale it could be very useful to have extra properties controlling how dimensions are rendered in the viewport:

1)
E.g an extra “Dimension Scale” under “Scale” in the Viewport selection’s ‘Specific Properties’ section, could allow having the same size when printed.
This Dimension Scale would be multiplied on top of the Scale value, but only for Dimensions rendering.

2)
Toggle button for hiding any dimensions in the Viewport. Maybe this should be controlled by being able to specify a Layer that should be hidden in this Viewport only, then I could select my Dimensions layer here.

Win 7 32 bit QCAD 3.20.1

Ofsset of a base-line with arcs results in massive ammount of errors.
Most of them occur as a cluster of very tiny segments and are part of the offset. (zoom far in at the red circles)
Mostly they occur where the offsetted arcs should merely be trimmend pairwise.
Some occur as detached entities or as detached strings of entities very near the offset (strings not documented).
Spooks occur at opposite site when base-line is not closed.
360° curls can occur with R = Offset.
Null-entities may occur (not documented, hard to find and not able to copy).

The base-line is checked and sound and has mixed tangentially or not tangentially connected arcs.
Offsetting the mother base-line of the base in the file has similar effect but not all and/or different ones.
Also encountered with offseting polys from fonts.
Used to define pocket paths for CNC.
Detected because the CNC driver will not accept Self-crossers, Null-entities or open ends depending on the settings.

Work arround is to explode and select small entities but this does not solves the issues.
1) Choosing the tolerance large enough will detect small segments that should stay.
2) Recombining will generate new ones at the place where the main segments remain crossed.
Cleaning up the paths is a daunting process with some thousand segments for several offsets.

I assume this has an infuence on the CAM part of QCAD too unless the offset method is different.
