If a file is opened by clicking on it in an open ZIP archive, autosave will not work.

Autosave function not working, error warning given instead!

Automatically set the draw order one lower than the lowest draw order of a border entity when creating a hatch. This should be a user preference, since not everyone might want that behavior.

I would like static information of the drawing (like scale, creation-date, modified-date, revision etc) to be available as automatic labels to be placed in the drawing (with selectable style, font etc)

This would greatly simplify the creatin of title sections in the drawing and making sure it is consistent with the actual drawing and not requiring manual “synchronization”.

it would be ideal to be able to have the option to autohide the side panel to increase the visible drawing space when working on a small screen.

You can apply the command to Lines, PolyLine segments, Arcs, Circles, and Rings:

For linear entities parallel to an axis of the coordinate system, aligned Dimensions (parallel Dimensions) are created. For linear entities not parallel to an axis of the coordinate system, either aligned Dimensions (measuring the absolute distance between two points) or horizontal or vertical Dimensions (measuring the horizontal or vertical distance between two points) depending on where you move the pointer are created.

For curved entities, you can create radial, diameter, linear, angular, and arc length Dimensions.

To dimension entities:

Click Dimension > Auto (or type AutoDimension).
In the graphics area, select an entity to dimension.
Click to place the dimension line.
To use another dimension type for Circles or Arcs, specify an option:
Diameter. Creates a diameter Dimension.
Radial. Creates a radial Dimension for an Arc or Circle.
Linear. Creates a linear Dimension of the diameter of a Circle or an aligned, horizontal, or vertical Dimension between the end points of an Arc.
Angular. Dimensions the angle between the end points of an Arc.
Arc length. Dimensions an Arc length.
Note: The chosen option is the default the next time you use the AutoDimension command.

When you move the pointer during a linear dimensioning, you can:
Lock. Determines the current dimension type (aligned, horizontal, or vertical) regardless where you move the pointer.
Unlock. Unlocks the type of linear dimension used.
Press Enter.

In short, when you use this tool you click on an entity and it will know what dimension you’re looking for. For Circles, you can specify in the command window R or D for Radius or Diameter.
This would be extremely useful on large drawings where a lot of dimensioning is to be done. One tool and start clicking on entities for dimensioning.

Ziehe ich mit der Maus eine normale Auswahlbox kann ich Elemente markieren.
Möchte ich einzelne Bereiche wieder herausnehmen muss ich alle Elemente einzeln anklicken (mit gedrückter Shift Taste).
Ich kann zwar dies komfortabler gestalten mit der Select → (De -) Select Contour Funktion welche aber erst über das Menue aufgerufen werden muss.

So wie ich einzelne Elemente mit der Maus auswählen und mit der Shift-Maus Funktion deselektieren kann wäre es schön wenn die Shift Taste auch bei Auswahlbereichen direkt zum deselektieren eingesetzt werden könnte.

Case:

Select a block array,
put it with “Copy with reference” or “Cut with reference” into the clipboard,
choose a reference point which isn’t in the center of the array,
use the paste tool / with option “flip pasted entities”

If I flip only in horizontal or vertical direction the preview box will double in size and I can’t place the entities precisely regarding to the reference point.
If I try to flip in both directions at the same time - you can’t see this effect.

Arrange points on a plan according to an arithmetical, geometrical, logarithmic, customizable variation of distances

Use case:

• Start tool
• Choose one entity of the contour
• If contour is closed, area of closed contour is calculated an printed in the command line history
• Configuration parameters: segment length for arc interpolation

Large files/large entities perform bad in QCad. There are many dxf files that are created with thousand of lines that perform reasonable in other cad’s/cam’s that qcad cannot match.

One very useful tool, that could be added would help to improve qcad performance and at the same time enlarge the dxf quality (by replacing thousand of files by arcs), would be a tool called “arc fit” where, when possible and under a determined possible error margin (user selectable) creates arcs replacing the existing lines.
This would improve the file work in QCad also improves CAM software that would work after QCad, that I think is important for many users.

For example, if it is needed to use qcad to generate toolpaths for letters, after exploding letters, the output is almost impossible to work due to the number of lines that are created. Having arcs instead of lines would greatly improve qcad use.

Hi Andrew,

we know that you need to have always software performance in your mind to decide which features / tools can / should be implemented and on which way.

I really appreciate your effort to find the best middle way between software features and performance but I think also it’s a tough call to appraise worldwide the overall customer equipment to make the software workable to the best for everybody. That isn’t possible without compromise.

Maybe it would make sense to think about a new dialog in the “Application Preferences” to let the user decide what kind of feature are absolutely needed regarding to his/her work-task / equipment. I don’t mean that you need to cover every single thing but the main “performance jeopardy’s” should be covered with an on/off switch.

Yes I know - that isn’t done in 5 minutes but I think that can make your life easier in the long run and will cover even more customer.

It would be nice to have an additional Radius Measurement tool with short leads. The current Radius tool shows always the lead line to the center of the radius what is in many cases not useful.

I’m not asking for a workaround

Add support for alternate units for dimension style, for example to display units in mm and in.

- removing one of the loops with the ‘remove’ option.
- leaving both without the ‘remove’ option.
Bug?
Without the ‘remove’ option it can’t be undone.

The Info Tool Polygonal Area is a helpful tool ... but I like to ask for additional options

Yes, the polygonal area makes absolute sense but many times you have just to check a square or rectangle area!

It would be nice and time (click) saving if we could use a “Strg Key” to limit the polygonal area to just a rectangle area.
Two mouse clicks for a rectangle area and done

In addition to that it would be nice to have the possibility to count up or down a couple areas.
E.g. I measure area 1 plus area 2 or area 1 minus area 2 ...
Maybe just with an additional keystroke like + or -

Additional Export function for export/import into 3D Programs like Sketchup etc. (file types like .dae, .3ds, .ddf, .skp).

If I work in QCAD only with Toolbars (and not with the “Cad Tools” there is nowhere a Button to find for “Create Block from selection”.
If I have to create a Block based on a selection I have to work with the Menu or have to activate the Cad Tools.

But, if I look at the Blocklist menu there is a function (+) to add an empty Block. It would be nice to have this button working for both situation - empty Block or depending on a selection to “Create Block from selection”.

Or alternative an additional Button ...

Anyway - in my opinion would that make the “Blocklist” complete.

An additional option would be useful to paste any given entity a set number of times with even/equal gaps in between.

I’m working currently a lot with files coming from rhino. Qcad can open them properly any also most operations on them work as usual - except the selection methods.

box select from upper left to lower right works as usual.
double click to select all connected entities is broken. (only one entity is selected).
box select from lower right to upper left does not select entities touching the selection box. (nothing is selected)

on mac os nothing is selectable with single click.
on linux single click sometimes fails (nothing is selected after clicking on a line).

Hi!

A friendly request to add an option to disable hatch rendering on “dwg2bmp” conversions.

Depending on the nature of the conversion and the density of the hatch, this may render unintelligible images (see attachments). The option could look like “-t, -nohatch” to indicate hatches should be hidden before rendering. This could potentially become an option too for “dwg2svg” or “dwg2pdf.”

Wipeout entities can be used to hide rectangular or polygonal sections of a drawing, for example to make space for a label inside a hatch.

The 3dConnexion Space Navigator would be wonderful as a pan and zoom control. I find it extremely useful in SketchUp and when I switch from that to QCAD am always disappointed to find it doesn’t work.

While full support for the buttons and such would be nice, just the ability to map the axis to pan and zoom would be wonderful.

Hi, for multi-screen hosts it would be very useful to have additional windows while running the single QCad instance. Other applications like Palemoon, Evolution, Gimp are providing that already.
That would help a lot when working on multiple files and copying blocks between.

Support transformations by transformation matrix for block references.

When drawing or moving objects holding down CTRL should activate ortho snapping as long as CTRL is pressed.

If ortho mode has been active before holding down CTRL should deactivate it (for the time it is beeing pressed).

Add a more versatile way of doing a search and replace for text. Regular expressions maybe?

Would it be possible to have the choice to dock or not dock toolbars - in other words keep them floating, an additional option in the tool settings could be added?

Would it be possible to have the choice of either dashed or solid lines for the large cross hairs?

Would it be possible to have options for:

1.Enable or disable Snap label with text.

2.To have a ‘Snap Marker’ with style and colour choice instead of snap label.

* It would be good for users to have the choice.

For some tools like the Horizontal or vertical line, it would be good to have button options (similar to infinite and ray line buttons) instead of the drop down menus.

The Midpoint Handles should be used to move Polyline Segments and lines. This would add easy to access stretch functionality.
Combined with a shortcut(hold down shift or alt etc.) to fix the movement to be orthogonal to the line this would bring a lot of extra value.
It would also be possible to to have another shortcut to easily insert nodes to Polylines (again hold shift or alt etc.)

Having leader with numbers and text would be awesome to better interact with the drawing and making BOM lists.

Currently it takes too mush time to make the leaders with text and number bubbles.

Add drop object along a path with automatic trim.

1. The object can be a selection before or after selecting the tool, an entity or a block.

1. The path can be another entity from a start point to an end point.

1. Dropping can be made on one side or the other (like in other tools depending on the side of the cursor), with a choice of miroring the object or not.

1. The number of drops or the distance between can be selected.

1. The distance can be between a control point of the object or its sysmetry axis or border.

1. The dropping direction can be selected too.

1. The droping depth can be constrained : all control points have passed the path, or one of them. Alternatively, replace control points by an entity belonging to the object.

Exemple of use case : equidistant drills in a curved rail. The dropping depth constraint enables for example to ensure a drill has a minimal depth when not orthogonal to a plan.

In Autocad when making a dimension when left clicking to place the dimension there is the possibility to drag the dimension to either side of the dimension. This is also possible with Qcad dimension, but it losses the snapping and does not extend the dimension line out to the dimension text.

This is very useful when the two lines the needs a dimension are close together, or overlapping with another.

Add configuarable format options in application preferences for saving blocks to library to either dxf or dwg.

Add attribute value “By Parent” for color, line weight, line style for child layers.

With a Mac (and no external mouse) there’s no middle button so it’s not possible to pan the 3D view (that’s what they tell me in the forum). It would be useful if one could use command-drag or control-drag to pan around the 3D view.
