Modify - Round - Click polyline - round all corners

Add alpha property to filter for hatches.

This is either a bug or a feature request, depending on perspective; my apologies if I’ve picked the wrong one. Additional discussion can be found here.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create an entity
2. Run “Create Library Item” [BT]
3. Select Reference Point

Expected outcome:
“Save As” dialogue opens in the directory that the previous library item was saved in

Actual outcome:
“Save As” dialogue opens in ( RSettings.getLaunchPath() + “/libraries” )

Additional Context:
The reason I’ve categorized this as a bug is because, relative to the behaviour of the main “Save As” dialogue (which does remember the last directory used) the behaviour of the “Create Library Item” “Save As” dialogue is unexpected.

I would like to request a new kind of snap: a “Restricted Intersection” snap that appears at the point where an entity would intersect with a line drawn from Relative Zero that fulfills the current EL criteria. “Restricted Intersection” snaps would be similar to other Relative Zero-based snaps (like “Perpendicular” and “Tangential”), but would predict the point of the snap from the EL constraints instead of the characteristics of the entity being snapped to. Naturally a value of 0 for angle or length would result in that constraint being ignored.

Additional operational flexibility could be achieved by allowing the snap to exist regardless of whether EL is actually in use. To be useful this would probably require determining snap locations based on angle OR length as opposed to angle AND length.

Implementing this new snap would allow, for example, for easily drawing a line of unknown (but determinable) length at a specified angle between a given point and a given entity (see discussion here), with the “Restricted Intersection” snap ensuring that the endpoint of the new line forms an intersection with the entity in question. Currently the same goal can be achieved a couple of different ways, but they all involve at least two separate steps.

Because modifying hatches have lag issues I’d like to propose a toggle that turns of the redrawing/rendering of the hatch. Especially while modifying the hatch.

The hatches always have a boundary that can be worked with right? So when we move or stretch the hatch we can still see the boundary and its handles to perform all the actions.

This could be a new view mode that turns of the view of the interior/pattern of the hatch but leave the boundary of the hatch.
Or the draft mode can be extended to include simplified hatches while modifying.

Zooming in and out is lagging to the point of unusable. This is happening in a layout block with the cursor pointing inside geometry with hatches. When the cursor is pointing outside the geometry zooming works as expected.
The attached file has a very simplified testcase that shows this problem almost in the same way as a more complex drawing with multiple layers and hatches.

edit: I also attached the more complex drawing because it is a bit unclear to me where the lagging stops. Outside the viewport or outside the paper.

Hi there,

A friendly request to add the option to set a maximum lineweight for raster conversions via dwg2bmp.

Depending on the LW configuration of the CAD file, rasterization operations sometimes yield terrible results (see attachment). This would also mirror the similar “-min-lineweight” options available on “dwg2svg” and “dwg2pdf” (although not on “dwg2bmp”).

Hi!

in many tasks in qcad I ended up exporting one or several layers into individual files for some cnc jobs or further processing. So the steps I usually do are:

• select all elements on the layer
• paste into new drawing
• sometimes rename layer names or attributes
• adjust dimension settings
• save and give name for drawing

Sometimes I have up to 100 layers I need to export like this, so an automatic export for all would be time saving too. But very often a “single click” export method would also help a lot. (e.g. inside the layer list an entry in the right click menue like “save as new file”). Also a multiple selection would be handy if more that one layer should end up in the new file. (e.g. select the three layers that need to be in the new document, then right click and save as new file). Maybe this is too much of changes needed inside the layer list - so something like a separate layer export dialogue would make sense.

When exporting many layers some variables for automatic naming of layers and filename would make sense e.g. user can specify basename_%L.dxf to get the basename_layername.dxf or just an increasing number.

For layers and attributes it is often needed to give a layer a certain name or color for different cnc processes (e.g. engraving and cutting for lasers) or to put everything on layer “0” because of some old CAM software that only supports content on layer 0.

probably many more details would make sense that I didn’t think of yet...

Hi, for multi-screen hosts it would be very useful to have additional windows while running the single QCad instance. Other applications like Palemoon, Evolution, Gimp are providing that already.
That would help a lot when working on multiple files and copying blocks between.

When drawing a line it would be good to have a tool/option to ‘run parallel with’.

For example start to draw a line and choose ‘run parallel with’, select appropriate line to draw parallel with!

Hi,

I use a lot of “temp” layer to keep my drawing organized during a design session. Ad the end of the day (or week or month ...) I need to get rid of this “garbage” but unfortunately there is no easy way to delete all this layer in one go.
Most of the time those layer are invisible. The “important layer” are visible. If I could toggle all layer from visible in invisible in one go with a switch like “Toggle visible layer all” and then use “Select all” / delete / Purge unused layer I’m able do get rid of this stuff with just a few clicks.

The same tool would help to improve the workflow in the case that I just have to switch between all visible / invisible layer for testing / double checking / cleaning or what ever. Currently I have to toggle every single layer to get this done and if I work with many layer I need to have a perfect working memory (or a piece of paper with many notes!) to be able to restore the same desired working order.

And I’m confident - there are many more useful scenarios for a tool like this one ...

It would be helpful to have the added option to lengthen/Shorten from both ends of entity at the same time.

An additional option would be useful to paste any given entity a set number of times with even/equal gaps in between.

It would be very useful to have the same possibility for Isometric projection like the Paste tool etc.. An option which ask me to put a new Isometric projection on the current layer is right now missing. If I like to have this new Isometric Projection on a different layer I have to reselect the projection and move it to that layer. That is plain inconvenient.

Easy transfer of properties from one entity to others

Not too sure if this would be possible for QCAD, but an option to open/import pdfs would be good.

Now - after enjoying the great new “Scale” option for Dimensioning I like to ask for the same scale option for the “Info tools”.
It would be really nice to have more flexibility (without a pocket-calculator) in reading and displaying the Info tool results.

For some tools like the Horizontal or vertical line, it would be good to have button options (similar to infinite and ray line buttons) instead of the drop down menus.

Add support for spline shaped leaders

I would very much like to ask for the option to Hatch/Fill with a gradient of one or two colours.

Wipeout entities can be used to hide rectangular or polygonal sections of a drawing, for example to make space for a label inside a hatch.

When double clicking on an entry in the layer list just nothing happens.
I would prefer if this would directly open the layer attributes dialog to change color/name etc.

Many times I’m faced with the situation that I have to use a rectangle related to other entities. Dimensions/Angle = unknown.

We have in QCAD a rectangle tool with a two point diagonal determination but this is limited to two points and it will only work in a horizontal and vertical direction.

My feature request is based on the idea to draw a rectangle with 3 points - regardless the angle.

1. First point: start

2. second point: determination of the first side (width?) and it will also provide the angle for the rectangle

3. third point: determination second side (height?)

I’m asking for an additional new tool? No - just as an option to the existing rectangle tool ...

Would it be possible to add a feature which turns selected text into solid fill hatched polylines?

That would make it possible to migrate the drawing from one computer system to another without having to worry whether the used font is installed on both systems, like when sending a drawing to a manufacturer for laser engraving.

Right now I can do it by hand, letter by letter, and that is a rather labour-intensive task.

My system: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20GHz and 8 GB of RAM and NVIDIA GT218 (GeForce 210)

For a normal drawing displaying it in all detail is a good thing and the performance of my quad-core system is more than adequate.

But I discovered (or rather experienced) that when putting a large collection of individual drawings of gears onto one big sheet (960 mm x 600 mm - preparation for laser cutting), the performance was so bad that I had to wait several seconds (>10 sec) for each step in the process of arranging all the parts on the layer.

Request: It would be a big help and performance booster if you could disable the detailed view of each part/layer and only draw a rectangle to visualize the outline of the part.

Please take this in consideration. Attached you find an example of how that could look like. (Actually when pasting a drawing from the clipboard you already do that.)

If I work in QCAD only with Toolbars (and not with the “Cad Tools” there is nowhere a Button to find for “Create Block from selection”.
If I have to create a Block based on a selection I have to work with the Menu or have to activate the Cad Tools.

But, if I look at the Blocklist menu there is a function (+) to add an empty Block. It would be nice to have this button working for both situation - empty Block or depending on a selection to “Create Block from selection”.

Or alternative an additional Button ...

Anyway - in my opinion would that make the “Blocklist” complete.

I guess this is a case of wording and wrong expectations.

The polyline tool “Delete Segments between two nodes” removes nodes, but not segments as the title and the icon suggests.

I propose to rename it to “Delete Nodes between two nodes”.

A tool which actually removes line segments from a polyline, leaving gaps, could indeed be useful to some users.

I think of a straight polyline with several segments. Then I remove some segments. I end up with a polyline with “holes” in it. Now I could stretch that polyline and all the remaining segments and holes stretch proportionally. Could be handy some times.

Sometimes you end up with a straight line which is broken/split into several parts. It would be great to have a tool to merge/combine these segments into one.

That would be the opposite/complementary tool to the “Split Entities” tool.

When using the Lengthen/Shorten tool it would be good to have an additional option to be able to pick a point to lengthen or shorten to.

To re-introduce Tile and Cascade window options like as before in QCAD 2.2.2.

Feature request- text string find/replace

Scope: entire drawing/selected objects set/chosenlayer only

Functionality:

‘find’ with ‘zoom to’, first, next, previous, last

‘replace’ with ‘next’, ‘undo’, ‘all’

This functionality is very useful when using QCad for system diagrams and the like.

Some times I need to have the dimension info using the Vertical Dimension tool displayed horizontally.

Possibly this option could be added to the Label drop down menu.

To have the option to set your own ‘user defined’ line weight.

Duplicate (copy, clone) a layer with or without entities on it. New name can be specified by user.

To add the option to ‘print only’ selected area in a drawing.

To add another Arc tool option in Arc tools set:

1.Specify Start point for Arc.
2.Specify End point for Arc.
3.Specify “Tangent” direction (without being restricted in input field) so you can visually select a point on your desired Tangent line!

I would love to have a ‘Double Line’ tool in QCAD.

For me this would be such a time saver when drawing out building floor plans in QCAD.

See drawing: I can’t seem to be able to manually change to the “To” variants – that is, override the decision of the label/arrow placement engine.

The circle in the attachment is a borderline example of when even just in this form I would more like it on the outside. If the drawing is crowded in that area, it would be even more useful to have it the other way around.

To improve useability/efficiency I would like to propose the following changes/additions to the layer list:

1) Combining the show and hide button into one button.

Clicking once will hide all layers, clicking again will show them all again.

2) A “lock/unlock” button.

Clicking once will lock all layers, clicking again will unlock them all again.

Regarding the icons I suggest that instead of show both the black and grey version of the eye/lock, you could switch between them depending on the state the switch-button is in. Also the mouse-over-text could/should change with the state.

The 3dConnexion Space Navigator would be wonderful as a pan and zoom control. I find it extremely useful in SketchUp and when I switch from that to QCAD am always disappointed to find it doesn’t work.

While full support for the buttons and such would be nice, just the ability to map the axis to pan and zoom would be wonderful.

It would be nice to have an additional Radius Measurement tool with short leads. The current Radius tool shows always the lead line to the center of the radius what is in many cases not useful.

It would be nice to have an extra option for the Align tool what provides the possibility to an equal distribution of a selection ...

It would be nice to implement the old hatch function as a tile function in parallel with the newer more industry standard hatch function. A tile function that would allow overlap +/- would be even better, and a great productivity boost, almost like an array within a set of bounds.
