Hi!

in many tasks in qcad I ended up exporting one or several layers into individual files for some cnc jobs or further processing. So the steps I usually do are:

• select all elements on the layer
• paste into new drawing
• sometimes rename layer names or attributes
• adjust dimension settings
• save and give name for drawing

Sometimes I have up to 100 layers I need to export like this, so an automatic export for all would be time saving too. But very often a “single click” export method would also help a lot. (e.g. inside the layer list an entry in the right click menue like “save as new file”). Also a multiple selection would be handy if more that one layer should end up in the new file. (e.g. select the three layers that need to be in the new document, then right click and save as new file). Maybe this is too much of changes needed inside the layer list - so something like a separate layer export dialogue would make sense.

When exporting many layers some variables for automatic naming of layers and filename would make sense e.g. user can specify basename_%L.dxf to get the basename_layername.dxf or just an increasing number.

For layers and attributes it is often needed to give a layer a certain name or color for different cnc processes (e.g. engraving and cutting for lasers) or to put everything on layer “0” because of some old CAM software that only supports content on layer 0.

probably many more details would make sense that I didn’t think of yet...

Feature request- text string find/replace

Scope: entire drawing/selected objects set/chosenlayer only

Functionality:

‘find’ with ‘zoom to’, first, next, previous, last

‘replace’ with ‘next’, ‘undo’, ‘all’

This functionality is very useful when using QCad for system diagrams and the like.

To add another Arc tool option in Arc tools set:

1.Specify Start point for Arc.
2.Specify End point for Arc.
3.Specify “Tangent” direction (without being restricted in input field) so you can visually select a point on your desired Tangent line!

When double clicking on an entry in the layer list just nothing happens.
I would prefer if this would directly open the layer attributes dialog to change color/name etc.

Duplicate (copy, clone) a layer with or without entities on it. New name can be specified by user.

Zooming in and out is lagging to the point of unusable. This is happening in a layout block with the cursor pointing inside geometry with hatches. When the cursor is pointing outside the geometry zooming works as expected.
The attached file has a very simplified testcase that shows this problem almost in the same way as a more complex drawing with multiple layers and hatches.

edit: I also attached the more complex drawing because it is a bit unclear to me where the lagging stops. Outside the viewport or outside the paper.

I just noticed the selection box has the same problem!

If I work in QCAD only with Toolbars (and not with the “Cad Tools” there is nowhere a Button to find for “Create Block from selection”.
If I have to create a Block based on a selection I have to work with the Menu or have to activate the Cad Tools.

But, if I look at the Blocklist menu there is a function (+) to add an empty Block. It would be nice to have this button working for both situation - empty Block or depending on a selection to “Create Block from selection”.

Or alternative an additional Button ...

Anyway - in my opinion would that make the “Blocklist” complete.

An additional option would be useful to paste any given entity a set number of times with even/equal gaps in between.

Wipeout entities can be used to hide rectangular or polygonal sections of a drawing, for example to make space for a label inside a hatch.

Hi, for multi-screen hosts it would be very useful to have additional windows while running the single QCad instance. Other applications like Palemoon, Evolution, Gimp are providing that already.
That would help a lot when working on multiple files and copying blocks between.

For some tools like the Horizontal or vertical line, it would be good to have button options (similar to infinite and ray line buttons) instead of the drop down menus.

Hi there,

A friendly request to add the option to set a maximum lineweight for raster conversions via dwg2bmp.

Depending on the LW configuration of the CAD file, rasterization operations sometimes yield terrible results (see attachment). This would also mirror the similar “-min-lineweight” options available on “dwg2svg” and “dwg2pdf” (although not on “dwg2bmp”).

This is either a bug or a feature request, depending on perspective; my apologies if I’ve picked the wrong one. Additional discussion can be found here.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create an entity
2. Run “Create Library Item” [BT]
3. Select Reference Point

Expected outcome:
“Save As” dialogue opens in the directory that the previous library item was saved in

Actual outcome:
“Save As” dialogue opens in ( RSettings.getLaunchPath() + “/libraries” )

Additional Context:
The reason I’ve categorized this as a bug is because, relative to the behaviour of the main “Save As” dialogue (which does remember the last directory used) the behaviour of the “Create Library Item” “Save As” dialogue is unexpected.

When working with multiple Viewports with different scale it could be very useful to have extra properties controlling how dimensions are rendered in the viewport:

1)
E.g an extra “Dimension Scale” under “Scale” in the Viewport selection’s ‘Specific Properties’ section, could allow having the same size when printed.
This Dimension Scale would be multiplied on top of the Scale value, but only for Dimensions rendering.

2)
Toggle button for hiding any dimensions in the Viewport. Maybe this should be controlled by being able to specify a Layer that should be hidden in this Viewport only, then I could select my Dimensions layer here.

This is a trim method I am missing in Qcad.

20 years ago it existed in CadKey.
You had a bunch of lines or segments.
You defined a (new) line or segment as cutter.
‘Trim All’.
You pointed at the side of the cutter entity to trim all intersecting at that side.

Only in rare cases I can use Husky’s workaround as pro.
It all depends on what else is in the clipping rectangle that is needed to trim all intended.
If of no use all single crossing entities have to be chosen one by one.

As we all know - from time to time - it is a lot of work to prepare a part of a drawing for a hatch.
To get rid of one of the basic task (cutting lines along the desired hatch boundary) it would be nice to have an add-on - or what ever - what would cut ALL intersection in a drawing (or just on one layer, or just based on a selection etc.) with just a mouse click. Then it would be much faster and easier to do the selection for the hatch boundaries.
The user could decide to make it directly in his drawing or he like to duplicate the drawing to an extra layer where this function will be used ....

Maybe a tool like this could be an additional ‘Snap’ selection option - select all snap intersections or select snap intersections within a boundary! then as you suggest ‘cut’ at the intersection points.

Slow loading of drawing with huge number of block inserts (more than 10000).

This would be nice.
It will save a lot mouse - keypad changes for me.

If I use the mouse-pointer in the Scale tool I’m not able to do an inversely proportional scale.
x - y locked or unlocked doesn’t matter in combine with the mouse pointer ...

Modify - Round - Click polyline - round all corners

Using a horizontally/vertically ray means always I have to use a preset Reference point which is 0° for the horizontal Ray and 90° for the vertically Ray. The Reference point Option Box is deactivated.

It would be nice to be able to choose by myself between a Start and End Reference point like the vert./horiz. Line options.

We do not have a Radian measure tool but we can change the labeling of a Angular Dimensioning ...

It would be nice to have a “Radian measure symbol” in the Property Editor / Geometry / Label / Insert Symbol List.

After all, print preview is not just the drawing on white, isn’t it? Everything else should stay in drawing units. Just the rulers, maybe a preference?

unfortunately I need to use from time to time different Units in a drawing. It works nice with the Scale possibility but to keep my drawing readable I need to label then the DIM accordingly. Sadly I don’t have a Postfix option so I work with a workaround what means I use <>”, or <>’ and <>mm in the Prefix field. If I then terminate the DIM tool and start it again I will loose my settings except the Scale Factor.

May I ask for an additional Postfix option or/and a remember functionality of those fields?

Points on line: enter distance instead of number of points as a variant of the tool or as a new tool.

To add a Plot Stamp option for printing, to have options to print file name, date , time etc...

The method PE casts the clipboard on individual hatch segments.
Hatches should be considered as a single complex entity not allowing certain actions.

Some functions / methods can generate some sort off entity or part with NaN / Null / Null-lenght ... props.
Some explicitly don’t and test their actions with isNull().

As these serve a purpose in some processes, trails of them can be part of the results.
For some users Null / Null-lenght are meaningfull, for other users these produce errors down the line.
In a few cases its a desirable feature eg. controlpoint spline.
(Allthough there are no Null props involved with equal successively controlpoints)

Many problem post on the forum are related to Null - Zero and so on.

In some cases it can’t be undone by re-editing the drawing.

It would be good to have an option to be able to place the text to the left or right,maybe just a simple check box? please see attached screenshot to explain. In this instance (and I have to do this a lot ;)) I had to explode the dimension entity and rearrange the text manually :(

Currently the only option to insert a viewport is using the central insertion point, for better placement it would be useful to have an option to insert viewports at any of the four corners in addition to the centre.

I think it would be nice to have the possibility to decide a fixed Text and Dimension (inclusive Arrows) height what is not affected by the Print scale. That means: If I have a given height of 3,5mm it will always be printed with 3,5mm - no matter what the scale for the printing is.
Yes, I see also the problem that I could run in space problems after I twitch to the Print preview - but that will also happen when I change the Text hight in the preferences for a 5:1 printing.
Maybe this Feature Request doesn’t looks important if you are usually working with Metric Units but if you have to handle Imperial Units then it is a pain in the back to make always the calculation to get the same heights.
Try it by your self; 3,5mm = 0.137795” = 1”:1” Now I like to print it in 1”:256” ops - to small - ok 1”:64” ... no, to big, maybe 1”:128” .......and QCad can’t remember the previously numbers.

Offsetting 32 polys from ellipses fails.
Offsetting 16 polys can be completed with 2 selections for outer and 2 for inner.

For some reason the offset function halts premature.

When I’m drawing inside a layout block the offset tool picks up lines from blocks that are hidden.
It is not happening with all the block.

It would be really cool to have a Note book tool for QCAD!

For example I am often working on a draft and at the same time scribbling notes down on a separate piece of paper relating to the drawing I am working on, could be anything e.g. add a block,add a dimension etc. etc... all sorts of things to remind myself about - all related to a particular drawing.

Of course I could use any number of other programs for this but a simple dedicated tool inside QCAD (could be called the ‘QCAD scribbler ;)) would be much better, especially one that can save the notes to a particular file, then when I open up my drawing again - my notes are there too!

Just starting with QCAD, for some hours now - really excellent user interface (compared to other low budget CADs, like DCAD, or BeckerCAD...) !

Surprisingly, point coordinates - entered via the command line, and shown with correct positions on the drawing- are not displayed correctly with the ‘dimordinate’ (DO) command.
There are no negative values, even when the center point (0;0) is right in the middle of the drawing, so points left and below should have !

if I need to design a bolt circle (circle on circle) and the single bolt diameter and the quantity of circles are given then I can use the QCAD Polygon Tool “Polygon 2 Points of Side” ... but for the Length of the side I have to do a workaround (Line with this length) to determine the desired length.

It would be very convenient to have an additional tool for a Polygon which has the possibility to ask me for the center, corners and the length of the sides.

A ' Multi ' Breakout tool or added option to the existing Breakout tool.

For example see attached image.

An option to remove all segments within a chosen boundary would be good, in my example I want to remove all the hatching within the Red circle.

So after exploding the Hatch, currently I have to remove all segments singularly!

Of course I could have placed the circle first and hatched around it - but in this and most instances it is easier to design and to produce the Hatching first and then place my circle/shapes etc.

“Paste” has already the options: To current layer, Overwrite layers, Overwrite blocks.

Would be a nice time saver to have the same options for “Paste along Entity” too.

The modify stretch tool wants first and second corner, start and end point, then starts afresh. When I turn on restrict horizontally eg to align two points between start and end, the restriction sticks and I have to call restrict none, to be able to perform the next iteration, set the first corner then.

So, in the quest for a comfortable user interface, it was nice, if the modify stretch first/second corners parameter setting was not affected by current restrict/ortho etc. settings. Actually, that does not make any sense at all anyways, does it, a rectangle is defined by two degrees of freedom, isnt it?

The conditional clause of this sentence is ‘the odd choice’.
Blaming this on incompetence.
Insight is the best way to get better ...
... but the rest is more an odd choice of tools for this kind of task ...

Again, the MISTAKE was by accident, not intended, in a flick of the wrist ...
I didn’t change the trimming method, I simply forgot to ... only once.

The ‘undo’ of my incompetent MISTAKE didn’t returned to how the situation was before I erroneous trimmed with TM.
I was simply undoing my erroneous action.

Documented it in 4 quadrants.
For this, 4 times on purpose, and not as a consistent ‘odd choice’.

The method Polyline from Segments (OC) can be configured for tolerance and simplification in the Options Toolbar.
The method Polyline from Selection (OG) has no UI or none showing.

OG retrieves a tolerance from QCAD.ini, what is initially not set:

    var tolerance = RSettings.getDoubleValue("PolylineFromSelection/Tolerance", 0.001);

The tolerance will be default = 0.001 similar as the default in AppPrefs.
The tolerance setting is included in QCAD.ini after changing the AppPrefs entry.

OG calls PolylineFromSelection.autoJoinSegments with this tolerance:

    var counter = PolylineFromSelection.autoJoinSegments(di, tolerance, this);

PolylineFromSelection.autoJoinSegments calls PolylineFromSegments.createPolylineShape
with simplification hard coded to true. (last parameter)

I would like to see the simplification optional and default = true.
