To re-introduce Tile and Cascade window options like as before in QCAD 2.2.2.

Because modifying hatches have lag issues I’d like to propose a toggle that turns of the redrawing/rendering of the hatch. Especially while modifying the hatch.

The hatches always have a boundary that can be worked with right? So when we move or stretch the hatch we can still see the boundary and its handles to perform all the actions.

This could be a new view mode that turns of the view of the interior/pattern of the hatch but leave the boundary of the hatch.
Or the draft mode can be extended to include simplified hatches while modifying.

Eine oft Hilfreiche Zeit/Klick sparende Erweiterung wäre eine “Total” Option bei dem “Lengthen” Tool.

Aktuell ist es mit dieser Funktion möglich ein Element zu verlängern oder zu verkürzen um den Amount X. Der Referenzpunkt (von welchem Ende) kann bestimmt werden.

Die Erweiterung die ich mir wünschen würde wäre auch ein “Total” um ein Element auf eine bestimmte Länge zu bringen ohne einen Taschenrechner benutzen zu müssen. Referenz (welches Ende oder Mitte) sollte (muss) dafür wählbar sein.

Die Funktion “Property editor” stellt bereits über die Geometry Eigenschaften die Möglichkeit zur Verfügung einen “Total” Wert zu manipulieren. Leider bin ich aber hierbei nicht in der Lage zu bestimmen welcher Element Referenzpunkt dafür benutzt werden soll. Könnte ich die Referenz wählen (welches Ende oder Mitte) wäre auch dies dann durchaus akzeptabel

This is a trim method I am missing in Qcad.

20 years ago it existed in CadKey.
You had a bunch of lines or segments.
You defined a (new) line or segment as cutter.
‘Trim All’.
You pointed at the side of the cutter entity to trim all intersecting at that side.

Only in rare cases I can use Husky’s workaround as pro.
It all depends on what else is in the clipping rectangle that is needed to trim all intended.
If of no use all single crossing entities have to be chosen one by one.

Would it be possible to add a feature which turns selected text into solid fill hatched polylines?

That would make it possible to migrate the drawing from one computer system to another without having to worry whether the used font is installed on both systems, like when sending a drawing to a manufacturer for laser engraving.

Right now I can do it by hand, letter by letter, and that is a rather labour-intensive task.

My system: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20GHz and 8 GB of RAM and NVIDIA GT218 (GeForce 210)

For a normal drawing displaying it in all detail is a good thing and the performance of my quad-core system is more than adequate.

But I discovered (or rather experienced) that when putting a large collection of individual drawings of gears onto one big sheet (960 mm x 600 mm - preparation for laser cutting), the performance was so bad that I had to wait several seconds (>10 sec) for each step in the process of arranging all the parts on the layer.

Request: It would be a big help and performance booster if you could disable the detailed view of each part/layer and only draw a rectangle to visualize the outline of the part.

Please take this in consideration. Attached you find an example of how that could look like. (Actually when pasting a drawing from the clipboard you already do that.)

In the Application Preferences>Draw>Text dialog, when first opened, the Uncheck all and Check all buttons are not disabled if the Show font preview in font controls check box is checked. If you click on the Use reduced selection of fonts check box twice the buttons become disabled.

Feature request - to have an option to underline text.

Include RPolyline.getLeftRightOutline() method in class_r_polyline.html

E.g. use Millimeters for construction while dimensions are displayed in Meters.

If there is no selection the Properties Editor could be used to predefine the properties of to be drawn elements.

this is a usability feature request:

If you want to move an object relatively to any point (e.g. by entering @x;y in commandline) it does’nt make sense to enter a starting reference point. Of course this is possible by clicking to any location on the screen. But it’s difficult to change between mouse and keyboard so often.

It should be possible to enter a “don’t care” or “any” reference point by pressing a keyboard shortcut (e.g. enter like in AutoCAD).

Vertical dimensions created with 3rd party applications are sometimes imported as horizontal dimensions with length 0. Changing the angle in the property editor fixes the problem.
Problem occurs in QCAD 2.2 and QCAD 3.0.

Hier meine Gedanken ....

In den Application Preferences kann ich mehrere Library Sources vorgeben. Ich habe eine auf dem HD und eine auf einen USB angegeben.

Wenn ich nun QCad auf der HD ausführe habe ich beide Ressourcen zur Verfügung. Schön! Natürlich habe ich auch im Library Browser meine Favoriten von beiden Ressourcen angegeben.

Wenn ich nun aber den USB entferne zeigt mir der Library Browser immer noch beide Resorcen als Name an - schalte ich nun um auf die USB Resource bekomme ich keinerlei Hinweis das diese momentan nicht zur Verfügung steht. Es passiert einfach NIX Es wäre schön wenn ich hier eine “Nicht verfügbar” Meldung bekommen würde.

Wenn ich nun meine Trotteligkeit bemerke und den USB wieder einstecke habe ich logischerweise wieder meine Library zur Verfügung ..... nur die auf den USB Stick verweisenden Favoriten sind auf Nimmerwiedersehen verschwunden. Die auf dem HD bleiben erhalten!

OK - um es ganz rund zu machen ein anderes Szenarios in “Steno”:
QCad Start vom USB - > Library Favoriten anlegen auf USB Library - > QCad schließen - > USB entfernen → QCad auf HD starten - > Library Favoriten auf USB sind verschwunden - > QCad HD schließen - > USB einstecken und QCad von USB starten = Favoriten auf USB bleiben verloren!

Wäre es hier nicht möglich die Favoriten Information dem USB mit auf dem Weg zu geben? Wenn ich eine Favoriten Auswahl auf dem USB nicht kontrollieren kann macht diese Möglichkeit kaum Sinn.

When working with multiple Viewports with different scale it could be very useful to have extra properties controlling how dimensions are rendered in the viewport:

1)
E.g an extra “Dimension Scale” under “Scale” in the Viewport selection’s ‘Specific Properties’ section, could allow having the same size when printed.
This Dimension Scale would be multiplied on top of the Scale value, but only for Dimensions rendering.

2)
Toggle button for hiding any dimensions in the Viewport. Maybe this should be controlled by being able to specify a Layer that should be hidden in this Viewport only, then I could select my Dimensions layer here.

1. The Scrollbars for each window in the Viewports has the same size like the normal used scrollbars for windows. If you are working on a normal size Monitor it “steals” a lot of “working space”. Is there any possibility to make the scrollbars smaller or just a line to separate the windows so that I have to navigate with Keyboard and mouse?

2. I thing the Viewports and the View List belongs together - is it possible to get a button in the “View List / Tool Bar” to choose a Viewport style instead of “walking” the long way over the “Drawing preferences” Menu?

When selecting multiple blocks that contain the same attribute names, attribute properties appear with the values of the last selected block instead of “various”. I do not know if this is a “bug” or developer option, but “various” would be better in my opinion.

QGroupBox widgets with <property name=”checkable”> are not saved in Qcad3.conf

Add parameters to the function DL_Dxf::writeVPort.
This way users will be able to specify the desired viewport.

Is the github the official repository? Are pull requests sent there accepted?

It would be nice to be able to adjust the zoom factor so that the scale on the screen matches a ruler which I lay on the screen.

Open QCAD and the application preferences. In the section “General: tool settings " you can resize the columns: Menu, Shortcuts etc.
The problem is that it is not intuitive. The first divider is not selectable and the second moves the first, only backwards.

I find myself with reasonable regularity needing to change the background color between black and white. It would be much more efficient to have a toggle button on the ribbon to make this sort of instant (kind of like the “screen based line types” button works but make it for background color and just between black and white or let people define their dark and light themes and toggle the background between the two.

Add configuarable format options in application preferences for saving blocks to library to either dxf or dwg.

It would be nice if QCAD spit some kind of warning message when trying to render a layer with a name that doesn’t exist (and perhaps render nothing), rather than silently rendering an empty image. :D

The 3dConnexion Space Navigator would be wonderful as a pan and zoom control. I find it extremely useful in SketchUp and when I switch from that to QCAD am always disappointed to find it doesn’t work.

While full support for the buttons and such would be nice, just the ability to map the axis to pan and zoom would be wonderful.

Property Editor - Geometry - Custom - Add Custom Property

If I use an identical Name accidentally again in the Custom Property dialog - it will overwrite the first value with the same name without any warnings.

PS: 3th trial to enter a suggestion ...

Openning a big file or doing any action in it, takes minutes to load.
Even dragging the scrollbar slightly left or right, takes mintues to redraw the canvas again, which makes QCAD un-usable for professional use.
Is there a way to make QCAD usable, after loading completed:
- Like suppressing edit until user says so,
- or taking snapshots of rendered canvases to another file and use it, as windows uses thumb.db ( for negative latency :P )

PS: I wish I could help a bit, but my hand are tied. I am just a java freak, I am opt to any idea of porting it to java, if she is still alive.

Polyline arcs with Width = 2R render as circle segments rather than circle sectors.
As Non-reversed arcs these don’t explode.
As reversed arc these explode to a single arc rather than a circle sector contour.

There is also still the faulty rendering with Z not zero

The Arc segments of Polylines with Global or any Local Width render faulty where Global Z or any of the arc’s local Z is not zero.

In the attached drawing setting the Global Z of the inner poly to 5,10,...

The setting of Z to not zero affects the radius of the projected arc and not the bulging of the poly.
It also affects the projected widths of the line inversely, but not by changing the widths properties.

Pritty rare combination! True.
Qcad is 2D native! True.

Flatten will resolve this.

It is not a purely visual rendering fault, the poly will explode as such.

Maybe similar flaw as with uneven scaling blocks with arcs.

Yesterday I set up a Windows 64 bit install of QCAD Pro which shows the same bug I have been seeing for a while in the Community linux git repo.

Create a new drawing and then go to “Print preview”. Enable “Move paper postion”, the cursor changes to the hand icon, but the paper position is unable to be moved. Only by saving the drawing, exiting the program, restarting and reopening the drawing, will the “Move paper postion” function correctly.

Affected versions tested:

Windows 64bit installer download, as of yesterday.
Linux 64bit build from git, about 20minutes ago.

For what it’s worth, this bug is not present in this previous git checkout:
