Hi Andrew,

we know that you need to have always software performance in your mind to decide which features / tools can / should be implemented and on which way.

I really appreciate your effort to find the best middle way between software features and performance but I think also it’s a tough call to appraise worldwide the overall customer equipment to make the software workable to the best for everybody. That isn’t possible without compromise.

Maybe it would make sense to think about a new dialog in the “Application Preferences” to let the user decide what kind of feature are absolutely needed regarding to his/her work-task / equipment. I don’t mean that you need to cover every single thing but the main “performance jeopardy’s” should be covered with an on/off switch.

Yes I know - that isn’t done in 5 minutes but I think that can make your life easier in the long run and will cover even more customer.

Just my two cents. ;)

Automatic change of icons in the Library Browser from black on white to white on black or vice versa depending on the background (white or black; light or dark) in QCAD main window.

There is the Synchronize attributes feature which works well. But It affects only block references in the active layout(modelspace, block layout). If I want to synchronize attributes of block references in in another blocks, i have to manually go through all blocks and run synchronize attributes feature. That is the reason I would like to modify Synchronize attributes feature to affect all block references in a drawing, or add new Deep synchronize attributes feature.

Hi!

A friendly request to add an option to disable hatch rendering on “dwg2bmp” conversions.

Depending on the nature of the conversion and the density of the hatch, this may render unintelligible images (see attachments). The option could look like “-t, -nohatch” to indicate hatches should be hidden before rendering. This could potentially become an option too for “dwg2svg” or “dwg2pdf.”

Just starting with QCAD, for some hours now - really excellent user interface (compared to other low budget CADs, like DCAD, or BeckerCAD...) !

Surprisingly, point coordinates - entered via the command line, and shown with correct positions on the drawing- are not displayed correctly with the ‘dimordinate’ (DO) command.
There are no negative values, even when the center point (0;0) is right in the middle of the drawing, so points left and below should have !

Some functions / methods can generate some sort off entity or part with NaN / Null / Null-lenght ... props.
Some explicitly don’t and test their actions with isNull().

As these serve a purpose in some processes, trails of them can be part of the results.
For some users Null / Null-lenght are meaningfull, for other users these produce errors down the line.
In a few cases its a desirable feature eg. controlpoint spline.
(Allthough there are no Null props involved with equal successively controlpoints)

Many problem post on the forum are related to Null - Zero and so on.

In some cases it can’t be undone by re-editing the drawing.

This is a trim method I am missing in Qcad.

20 years ago it existed in CadKey.
You had a bunch of lines or segments.
You defined a (new) line or segment as cutter.
‘Trim All’.
You pointed at the side of the cutter entity to trim all intersecting at that side.

Only in rare cases I can use Husky’s workaround as pro.
It all depends on what else is in the clipping rectangle that is needed to trim all intended.
If of no use all single crossing entities have to be chosen one by one.

When working with multiple Viewports with different scale it could be very useful to have extra properties controlling how dimensions are rendered in the viewport:

1)
E.g an extra “Dimension Scale” under “Scale” in the Viewport selection’s ‘Specific Properties’ section, could allow having the same size when printed.
This Dimension Scale would be multiplied on top of the Scale value, but only for Dimensions rendering.

2)
Toggle button for hiding any dimensions in the Viewport. Maybe this should be controlled by being able to specify a Layer that should be hidden in this Viewport only, then I could select my Dimensions layer here.

Offsetting 32 polys from ellipses fails.
Offsetting 16 polys can be completed with 2 selections for outer and 2 for inner.

For some reason the offset function halts premature.

So far, layer status has only been implemented very rudimentarily.
I wish something like a dialog box in which you can choose for each layer status, which layers belong to it and which not.

It may be useful to insert the “image cropping” function both in top / bottom - right / left mode, and with polyline

“Paste” has already the options: To current layer, Overwrite layers, Overwrite blocks.

Would be a nice time saver to have the same options for “Paste along Entity” too.

Looks like error, but may be that’s feature request.

CAD software uses typical navigation behavior as:
Wheel = Zoom; Ctrl+Wheel = Scroll up/down; Shift+Wheel = Scroll left/right.

Any other software like browsers, office software (openoffice writer, ms excel and so on), 2d paint software like GIMP (Photoshop and so on) uses other behavior:
Wheel = Scroll up/down; Ctrl+Wheel = Zoom; Shift+Wheel = Scroll left/right.

Users, that intensively use CAD and other software simultaneously prefer to make same behavior in their applications switching CAD scroll to plain mouse wheel.

QCAD’s “Application Preferences”: “Graphics View: Navigation”: “Mouse wheel/ two finger swipe”: “Scroll” allow user to assign scroll up/down to wheel mouse instead of Zoom. But there is mistake Ctrl+Wheel didn’t change to Zoom. Ctrl+Wheel continues to scroll up/down, as the wheel.
Wheel = Scroll up/down; Ctrl+Wheel = Scroll up/down; Shift+Wheel = Scroll left/right. No zoom!

Draw manipulation at this mode like a hell: you need to use wheel in conjunction with Ctrl/Shift to point draw in desired position, than move your hand to +(-) for make desired zoom.

The conditional clause of this sentence is ‘the odd choice’.
Blaming this on incompetence.
Insight is the best way to get better ...
... but the rest is more an odd choice of tools for this kind of task ...

Again, the MISTAKE was by accident, not intended, in a flick of the wrist ...
I didn’t change the trimming method, I simply forgot to ... only once.

The ‘undo’ of my incompetent MISTAKE didn’t returned to how the situation was before I erroneous trimmed with TM.
I was simply undoing my erroneous action.

Documented it in 4 quadrants.
For this, 4 times on purpose, and not as a consistent ‘odd choice’.

Arctic_Eddie reports failing CAM offset at exactly these points !!!
Reported is a faulty arc with radius of over 360,000mm.
- I can not reproduce this under QCAD working further on the Polys with NaNs.
- However the direct offset of such controlpoint Splines is erroneous.
(see file in post 30902)

Arctic_Eddie reports arc radii of over 10,000mm.
- These don’t seem to be faulty.
- I agree that BiArc fitting should be bound to a lower and certainly to an upper limit.
- That should be huge otherwise faint curvature is represented by many
wobbles or too quick by straight lines.

No example file provided because these NaN values are not saved to a file.
More pronounced with lines as with arcs.
Less pronounced when recombining after an explosion.

Some methods clear these to zero (OR).
Can also occur when adding segments to an existing polyline with OC.

I like to start my CAM paths at low curvature instead starting at high curvature.
Ellipses may explode with the startpoint at the tip. (file Y2)

The method Polyline from Segments (OC) can be configured for tolerance and simplification in the Options Toolbar.
The method Polyline from Selection (OG) has no UI or none showing.

OG retrieves a tolerance from QCAD.ini, what is initially not set:

    var tolerance = RSettings.getDoubleValue("PolylineFromSelection/Tolerance", 0.001);

The tolerance will be default = 0.001 similar as the default in AppPrefs.
The tolerance setting is included in QCAD.ini after changing the AppPrefs entry.

OG calls PolylineFromSelection.autoJoinSegments with this tolerance:

    var counter = PolylineFromSelection.autoJoinSegments(di, tolerance, this);

PolylineFromSelection.autoJoinSegments calls PolylineFromSegments.createPolylineShape
with simplification hard coded to true. (last parameter)

I would like to see the simplification optional and default = true.

Property Editor - Geometry - Custom - Add Custom Property

If I use an identical Name accidentally again in the Custom Property dialog - it will overwrite the first value with the same name without any warnings.

Status Bar menu remains unchecked even it is toggled on or off

Add configuarable format options in application preferences for saving blocks to library to either dxf or dwg.

QCad 3.19.2 Professional, 64bit, Liux Mint

Case:
1. Open some saved drawing with viewport entities on layout block (paper space). Print Preview mode is “On” automatically.
2. After “File-Revert” drawing is reopened on layout block (paper space), but now Print Previw mode is “Off” .

For example can try on “flange.dxf”

Drawing converted from inch to mm - undo leads to wrong dim label position. I can fix that with “Reset Label position” but it would be nice if QCAD could to that in first place.

... but it looks like we have the issue now back with some kind of variation.

If I use the test drawing which I posted in 2013 ( FS#843 ) it works still as expected after it was fixed.

If I create a new block it won’t work in a new drawing nor in the old test drawing - no chance to snap to the Block Reference.

Edit: New Test drawing:

My data files are stored on network shares (synology) with a GB link. QCAD Pro is run in Admin mode.

While in my Windows browser all remote shares are accessible (Green), in the QCAD file open menu they are initially shown as not accessible (Red). By accessing a specific drawing file in a remote share, the share will open and turn green.

Same behavior using ‘Open recent’. Always the message is given that the requested file does not exist, and the file is wiped from the ‘Recent Open’ list. Only if the share is first accessed through ‘Open’ with a random file, it will turn and a ‘recent open’ file for that share will open.

Drag and Drop from a remote share will never work.

It would be nice if QCAD spit some kind of warning message when trying to render a layer with a name that doesn’t exist (and perhaps render nothing), rather than silently rendering an empty image. :D

Yesterday I set up a Windows 64 bit install of QCAD Pro which shows the same bug I have been seeing for a while in the Community linux git repo.

Create a new drawing and then go to “Print preview”. Enable “Move paper postion”, the cursor changes to the hand icon, but the paper position is unable to be moved. Only by saving the drawing, exiting the program, restarting and reopening the drawing, will the “Move paper postion” function correctly.

Affected versions tested:

Windows 64bit installer download, as of yesterday.
Linux 64bit build from git, about 20minutes ago.

For what it’s worth, this bug is not present in this previous git checkout:

Openning a big file or doing any action in it, takes minutes to load.
Even dragging the scrollbar slightly left or right, takes mintues to redraw the canvas again, which makes QCAD un-usable for professional use.
Is there a way to make QCAD usable, after loading completed:
- Like suppressing edit until user says so,
- or taking snapshots of rendered canvases to another file and use it, as windows uses thumb.db ( for negative latency :P )

PS: I wish I could help a bit, but my hand are tied. I am just a java freak, I am opt to any idea of porting it to java, if she is still alive.

QCAD 3.24.2 / macOS x86_64 10.14.6

Starting with empty doc:
1. Draw any object (e.g. a rectangle) on layer 0.
2. Create new layer (”1”) with color, say yellow.
3. Select new layer
4. Select new object
5. Modify → Move / Copy
6. Click reference point
7. Click target point same as reference point
8. In “Move / Copy Options” dialog, select “Delete Original” and check “Use current layer and attributes.” Click OK.

The moved object stays on the layer it was previously on. Using “Move / Copy” as a quick way to move a selection between layers is not useful even though it appears to be the recommended way in a Google search.

Note: if “Keep Original” is selected instead, the copied object is placed on the current layer and the original object remains on its layer, as expected.

Note: if the target point is different from the reference point, the moved object is placed on the current layer as expected.

There are other workarounds too, cut / paste with “To current layer” checked seems to work, as does chaging the layer in the Properties Editor.

How to reproduce.

1. Create a text field with some non-english words in the upper index. (see attached pic1.png)
2. Save the project and close QCAD.
3. Run QCAD and open same project.
4. Now upper/lower indexed text becomes not human readable UTF codes. (see attached pic2.png)

Tried different fonts - doesn’t help.

Open QCAD and the application preferences. In the section “General: tool settings " you can resize the columns: Menu, Shortcuts etc.
The problem is that it is not intuitive. The first divider is not selectable and the second moves the first, only backwards.

With default autosnap settings reference points included I find it very hard to snap to the baseline reference points of a dimension.
I manage to do it by setting snap to reference point only and zoom out till I see the entire dimension element.

command line arguments: allow class name after -exec

It would be nice if one could select multiple blocks in the block list at once (holding ctrl or ctrl+shift). Main purpose would be to delete them if they are not needed anymore. If possible, the same applies to layers.

I think it would be nice to have more flexibility for Prefix etc. option (not only the drop down with a given choice) and a remember function for all those fields like postfix and tolerance.

Why Remember Function:
If I use a postfix like <>” in the postfix field I’m only able to use it for this particular dimension type at this time. If I change the type (from Horizontal to vertical or what ever) I have always to repeat my postfix. The same with tolerances.

Blocks: moving complex blocks with drag and drop should show bounding box as preview

A missing feature in my work are logical operations (combine, intersect, ..) for polylines

Example:
Draw some elements, select them, say combine. The result will be the outline of all elements.

There is an issue importing from Autocad:
lines and quotes (both arrows and text) appear too much big (see attachment).
I can fix quotes modifying dimensions in “current drawing preferences”, but lines are still too thick.
Autocad’s dxf are opened with right line thickness but wrong quotes.
Furthermore, Autocad opens Qcad’s dxf files showing wrong quotes.

Select lines, arcs, ... and convert them to points along the lines, arcs, ... with a fixed distance.
