As we all know - from time to time - it is a lot of work to prepare a part of a drawing for a hatch.
To get rid of one of the basic task (cutting lines along the desired hatch boundary) it would be nice to have an add-on - or what ever - what would cut ALL intersection in a drawing (or just on one layer, or just based on a selection etc.) with just a mouse click. Then it would be much faster and easier to do the selection for the hatch boundaries.
The user could decide to make it directly in his drawing or he like to duplicate the drawing to an extra layer where this function will be used ....

Maybe a tool like this could be an additional ‘Snap’ selection option - select all snap intersections or select snap intersections within a boundary! then as you suggest ‘cut’ at the intersection points.

I would like to request a new kind of snap: a “Restricted Intersection” snap that appears at the point where an entity would intersect with a line drawn from Relative Zero that fulfills the current EL criteria. “Restricted Intersection” snaps would be similar to other Relative Zero-based snaps (like “Perpendicular” and “Tangential”), but would predict the point of the snap from the EL constraints instead of the characteristics of the entity being snapped to. Naturally a value of 0 for angle or length would result in that constraint being ignored.

Additional operational flexibility could be achieved by allowing the snap to exist regardless of whether EL is actually in use. To be useful this would probably require determining snap locations based on angle OR length as opposed to angle AND length.

Implementing this new snap would allow, for example, for easily drawing a line of unknown (but determinable) length at a specified angle between a given point and a given entity (see discussion here), with the “Restricted Intersection” snap ensuring that the endpoint of the new line forms an intersection with the entity in question. Currently the same goal can be achieved a couple of different ways, but they all involve at least two separate steps.

Hi,

from time to time I need to place a circle etc precisely between two entity’s - what is a lot of construction work to get it correct. With the new “Info tool “Distance Entity to Entity” we have already the base for a new snap tool which could help to get rid of the time consuming construction process in cases like this. I would appreciate to get a new snap tool which is able to figure out the shortest distance between to entity’s and then will snap to the middle of it.

Would it make also cense to have a second new snap tool which works opposite for the furthermost distance between two entity’s?

When creating a new file, selecting the e. g. line tool at first opens the linemenu and the snap tool menu as expected. After clicking on the back button twice (going back to the main menu) and selecting the e. g. circle menu, the snap tool menu is shown instead of the circle menu. Instead the circle menu is shown after pressing the back button again.

This only happens when clicking on the back button, but with any tool menu seleected. Pressing escape to go back does not show this problem.

QCAD is running on Mac OS Mountain Lion.

Tools to add control points to existing splines and remove control points.

Attached DWG/DXF files are incorrectly read by QCAD.
They contain splines drawn using ZWCAD and saved as DWG/DXF version 2000.
Above splines are polylines created with autolisp routine which converts spline to polyline, so you can see how splines should actually be drawn.

First spline is created with fit points: 2,2 4,4 6,2
Then copied and applied weight of 2 on central control point.
Then copied again and applied weight of 0.5 on central control point.

Second spline is created with fit points: 6,2 8,4 10,2 with vertical start and end tangent.
Then copied and applied fit tolerance of 1 for fit points.

Third spline is created with fit points: 10,2 12,4 14,2 with horizontal start and end tangent.

Fourth and fifth spline are correctly drawn by QCAD.

Reported is that black is saved as #00004c (dark blue)

My system/installation saves black as #4c000 (dark red)

When using single primary colors these get reduced to #4c, #7f, #99, #cc & #ff.
The threshold for that are #00, #65, #8b, #b2 & #e5

I think it would be useful to add a note to the Application preferences dialog window, to explain to the user the difference between ‘Application and Drawing’ preferences and how it effects drawings in QCAD.

- lower limit (dimtm)
- tolerance precision (dimtdec)
- tolerance text size factor (dimtfac)
- tolerance suppress zeros, etc.

E.g. 0 degrees at the top, clock-wise for positive direction, alternative angle units.

Support for external references (XREF)

Many constructions refer to a basis of elements, which stay constant in all follow-ups. As an example there is a floorplan and I would like to create different variations of room layout (e.g. A and B). In my example the basis consists of 30 layers an each variation needs 10 further ones. At last there are 50 different layers in my drawing. Designing layout A needs layer 1 to 30 (basis) and 31 to 40 (A) to be shown, but 41 to 50 (B) must be invisible. Now I modify Var.B which makes me to single click the visibility of 31 to 40 (A) to be not shown and 41 to 50 (B) to be shown. You’ve got it?

It would be great help, to save the set of all shown layers by an individual name in a pulldown-menu. Visibility of my variations could be chosen by userdefined “set of layers”, e.g. “Var-A”, “Var-B” and “Var-A_but_different”. In this way I pick just one set-name in my pulldown-list instead of marking and demarking between countless layers.

In my opinion this tool would be a small aspect in QCad but a giant leap for user-pleasentness

I wanted to make it so, that SVG units translate 1:1 into CAD units; I use the German localized QCAD and entered 25,4 into the box with the wrong result, i.e. the same as 25; Entering 25.4 got me what I wanted: The question box needs the point and ignores the comma. Would be nice if it could use the localized separator.

I think it’s a useful adition and makes it easy to select objects that are overlapped. I know there is a selection filter, but sometimes this is faster and/or all the objects share the same type and such things.

If I remember correctly, Inkscape has this behaviour.

“Create New Drawing from Template” Browser can’t readout the Page orientation ...

The Omega button to insert special characters is only available in rich text mode.
Make it available in simple text mode as well.

When I zoom, the text disappears in certain zoom levels after updating to the latest version.

Add support for automatic text line wrapping for multiline text entities.

Text dialog (QTextEdit) strips tabs in toHtml.
If tabs can be retained, text entities could support tabs.

To add the option to ‘print only’ selected area in a drawing.

It might be useful for some to have the option to turn on/off ' auto’ dimension tracking option.

To re-introduce Tile and Cascade window options like as before in QCAD 2.2.2.

Because modifying hatches have lag issues I’d like to propose a toggle that turns of the redrawing/rendering of the hatch. Especially while modifying the hatch.

The hatches always have a boundary that can be worked with right? So when we move or stretch the hatch we can still see the boundary and its handles to perform all the actions.

This could be a new view mode that turns of the view of the interior/pattern of the hatch but leave the boundary of the hatch.
Or the draft mode can be extended to include simplified hatches while modifying.

Eine oft Hilfreiche Zeit/Klick sparende Erweiterung wäre eine “Total” Option bei dem “Lengthen” Tool.

Aktuell ist es mit dieser Funktion möglich ein Element zu verlängern oder zu verkürzen um den Amount X. Der Referenzpunkt (von welchem Ende) kann bestimmt werden.

Die Erweiterung die ich mir wünschen würde wäre auch ein “Total” um ein Element auf eine bestimmte Länge zu bringen ohne einen Taschenrechner benutzen zu müssen. Referenz (welches Ende oder Mitte) sollte (muss) dafür wählbar sein.

Die Funktion “Property editor” stellt bereits über die Geometry Eigenschaften die Möglichkeit zur Verfügung einen “Total” Wert zu manipulieren. Leider bin ich aber hierbei nicht in der Lage zu bestimmen welcher Element Referenzpunkt dafür benutzt werden soll. Könnte ich die Referenz wählen (welches Ende oder Mitte) wäre auch dies dann durchaus akzeptabel

This is a trim method I am missing in Qcad.

20 years ago it existed in CadKey.
You had a bunch of lines or segments.
You defined a (new) line or segment as cutter.
‘Trim All’.
You pointed at the side of the cutter entity to trim all intersecting at that side.

Only in rare cases I can use Husky’s workaround as pro.
It all depends on what else is in the clipping rectangle that is needed to trim all intended.
If of no use all single crossing entities have to be chosen one by one.

Would it be possible to add a feature which turns selected text into solid fill hatched polylines?

That would make it possible to migrate the drawing from one computer system to another without having to worry whether the used font is installed on both systems, like when sending a drawing to a manufacturer for laser engraving.

Right now I can do it by hand, letter by letter, and that is a rather labour-intensive task.

My system: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20GHz and 8 GB of RAM and NVIDIA GT218 (GeForce 210)

For a normal drawing displaying it in all detail is a good thing and the performance of my quad-core system is more than adequate.

But I discovered (or rather experienced) that when putting a large collection of individual drawings of gears onto one big sheet (960 mm x 600 mm - preparation for laser cutting), the performance was so bad that I had to wait several seconds (>10 sec) for each step in the process of arranging all the parts on the layer.

Request: It would be a big help and performance booster if you could disable the detailed view of each part/layer and only draw a rectangle to visualize the outline of the part.

Please take this in consideration. Attached you find an example of how that could look like. (Actually when pasting a drawing from the clipboard you already do that.)

In the Application Preferences>Draw>Text dialog, when first opened, the Uncheck all and Check all buttons are not disabled if the Show font preview in font controls check box is checked. If you click on the Use reduced selection of fonts check box twice the buttons become disabled.

Feature request - to have an option to underline text.

Drawing converted from inch to mm - undo leads to wrong dim label position. I can fix that with “Reset Label position” but it would be nice if QCAD could to that in first place.

Include RPolyline.getLeftRightOutline() method in class_r_polyline.html

Building with the bundled version, 1.8.5, works fine.

When I try to build using the system version, which for Mageia Cauldron is 1.9.3, the build fails.

E.g. use Millimeters for construction while dimensions are displayed in Meters.

If there is no selection the Properties Editor could be used to predefine the properties of to be drawn elements.

this is a usability feature request:

If you want to move an object relatively to any point (e.g. by entering @x;y in commandline) it does’nt make sense to enter a starting reference point. Of course this is possible by clicking to any location on the screen. But it’s difficult to change between mouse and keyboard so often.

It should be possible to enter a “don’t care” or “any” reference point by pressing a keyboard shortcut (e.g. enter like in AutoCAD).

Vertical dimensions created with 3rd party applications are sometimes imported as horizontal dimensions with length 0. Changing the angle in the property editor fixes the problem.
Problem occurs in QCAD 2.2 and QCAD 3.0.

Ob dies ein Feature Request oder ein Bugreport ist weiß ich nicht ....

Hier meine Gedanken ....

In den Application Preferences kann ich mehrere Library Sources vorgeben. Ich habe eine auf dem HD und eine auf einen USB angegeben.

Wenn ich nun QCad auf der HD ausführe habe ich beide Ressourcen zur Verfügung. Schön! Natürlich habe ich auch im Library Browser meine Favoriten von beiden Ressourcen angegeben.

Wenn ich nun aber den USB entferne zeigt mir der Library Browser immer noch beide Resorcen als Name an - schalte ich nun um auf die USB Resource bekomme ich keinerlei Hinweis das diese momentan nicht zur Verfügung steht. Es passiert einfach NIX Es wäre schön wenn ich hier eine “Nicht verfügbar” Meldung bekommen würde.

Wenn ich nun meine Trotteligkeit bemerke und den USB wieder einstecke habe ich logischerweise wieder meine Library zur Verfügung ..... nur die auf den USB Stick verweisenden Favoriten sind auf Nimmerwiedersehen verschwunden. Die auf dem HD bleiben erhalten!

OK - um es ganz rund zu machen ein anderes Szenarios in “Steno”:
QCad Start vom USB - > Library Favoriten anlegen auf USB Library - > QCad schließen - > USB entfernen → QCad auf HD starten - > Library Favoriten auf USB sind verschwunden - > QCad HD schließen - > USB einstecken und QCad von USB starten = Favoriten auf USB bleiben verloren!

Wäre es hier nicht möglich die Favoriten Information dem USB mit auf dem Weg zu geben? Wenn ich eine Favoriten Auswahl auf dem USB nicht kontrollieren kann macht diese Möglichkeit kaum Sinn.
