Hi,

my setting for “Auto Zoom on load” is checked to on. That works perfect for me for most of my drawings.

But if I save a drawing with Layout Viewports then I have to adjust every Viewport again after loading.

Would it be possible to have an option below Application Preferences / Graphics View / Appearance / Auto Zoom on load / ON which excludes drawings saved with Layout Viewports?

Diametric text is always placed above a horizontal measurement.

I often want to indicate both the inside and outside diameter of an object e.g. a wheel using diametric text. The text is overlaid and illegible.

To avoid text overlapping, I use Horizontal Aligned because I can control the position of the text to avoid illegible text.

A better method would be to alternate the placement of diametric text (alternatively) above and below a measurement so that in the majority of cases an overlap would be avoided.

Similarly for a vertical measurement, the text is overlaid and illegible.

When the angle is almost vertical, the angle controls the side the text appears however it also reverses the direction of the text (which is logical but not attractive).

Yesterday I set up a Windows 64 bit install of QCAD Pro which shows the same bug I have been seeing for a while in the Community linux git repo.

Create a new drawing and then go to “Print preview”. Enable “Move paper postion”, the cursor changes to the hand icon, but the paper position is unable to be moved. Only by saving the drawing, exiting the program, restarting and reopening the drawing, will the “Move paper postion” function correctly.

Affected versions tested:

Windows 64bit installer download, as of yesterday.
Linux 64bit build from git, about 20minutes ago.

For what it’s worth, this bug is not present in this previous git checkout:

Hi,

It would be less confusing to read messages in the command line protocol if it would use the same coordinate separators like the settings below Application Preferences / General / Coordinate Format.

This example shows the “Absolute Cartesian Coordinate” but of course all corresponding format settings should be used within messages.

Absolute Cartesian Coordinate: Setting = semicolon (;) but the message will use division (/).

To measure in the format DIN 1356 , Architect
It is hard work to do this manual input with meta characters.

Scenario: e.g. Tools Move/Copy and Rotate switched to “use without dialog.

Launch within a drawing Move/Copy, use the Keyboard keys CTRL + Space to focus on the Option Bar - the field for Numbers is Highlighted and I can change it. Further navigation with keys on the keyboard depends on remembered option (copy yes/no etc what make a navigation possible or not. It looks like the navigation with the Arrow keys is focused on the canvas and sooner or later the courser will jump to the Command Line or Property editor. Same behavior with the Rotation tool.

Openning a big file or doing any action in it, takes minutes to load.
Even dragging the scrollbar slightly left or right, takes mintues to redraw the canvas again, which makes QCAD un-usable for professional use.
Is there a way to make QCAD usable, after loading completed:
- Like suppressing edit until user says so,
- or taking snapshots of rendered canvases to another file and use it, as windows uses thumb.db ( for negative latency :P )

PS: I wish I could help a bit, but my hand are tied. I am just a java freak, I am opt to any idea of porting it to java, if she is still alive.

Previous Feature Request #1285, dated 2015, incorporated in QCADPro 3.24. I regularly adjust linetype scales on hidden, centreline and phantom lines to achieve the best appearance on the drawing when printed. I note the Paint Properties feature copies all the attributes of the chosen line but does not copy the scale. I have to change the scale of each line, even after ‘painting’. This copying all Properties is something AutoCAD does. I know I could change the line to Hidden2 etc. and tick the ‘scale lines’ box in Drawing Properties but that is not always successful- copying properties is a quick and useful way of achieving the required result.

E.g. 0 degrees at the top, clock-wise for positive direction, alternative angle units.

In my example I can’t draw a circle with circletangent2 if the defining point is on one of the defining tangents. The tangency is lost when I try to do this.

Starting with empty doc:
1. Draw any object (e.g. a rectangle) on layer 0.
2. Create new layer (”1”) with color, say yellow.
3. Select new layer
4. Select new object
5. Modify → Move / Copy
6. Click reference point
7. Click target point same as reference point
8. In “Move / Copy Options” dialog, select “Delete Original” and check “Use current layer and attributes.” Click OK.

The moved object stays on the layer it was previously on. Using “Move / Copy” as a quick way to move a selection between layers is not useful even though it appears to be the recommended way in a Google search.

Note: if “Keep Original” is selected instead, the copied object is placed on the current layer and the original object remains on its layer, as expected.

Note: if the target point is different from the reference point, the moved object is placed on the current layer as expected.

There are other workarounds too, cut / paste with “To current layer” checked seems to work, as does chaging the layer in the Properties Editor.

If I’ve to duplicate a layer with a bunch of sub-layer it’s a kind of a Sisyphus task to get it done.
Currently I have to duplicate each single layer. Then in an additional step I’ve to address each child layer to the proper parent layer.

Current lack:
Marked parent layer with all sub-layer / Duplicate Layer / only ONE layer will be duplicated.

With other words: If I have to duplicate a layer with 5 sub-layer it requires 11 steps to get a copy of that tree ...

Implement a multiline tool.

Text and/or DIM used in blocks will be mirrored if inserted with a vertical/horizontal flip option.

Text/DIM which was successfully used in previos QCAD versions are now mirrored if they are loaded in the current version.

Version 3.23.0 doesn’t shows this behavior.

Open QCAD and the application preferences. In the section “General: tool settings " you can resize the columns: Menu, Shortcuts etc.
The problem is that it is not intuitive. The first divider is not selectable and the second moves the first, only backwards.

The application crashes when I try to change a shortcut in the preferences. And only after resizing the preferences window.
In the attachement are the cli warnings.
I also tried the 3.24.3.9 snapshot with the same result.

With default autosnap settings reference points included I find it very hard to snap to the baseline reference points of a dimension.
I manage to do it by setting snap to reference point only and zoom out till I see the entire dimension element.

The square symbol offered as symbol in DIM label is the only symbol which doesn’t adopt the layer color.
If I print a drawing in full color it leads to a black symbol in an otherwise colored dimension.

It is also the only symbol which has a solid filling what is confusing when you work with it in Model_Space ...

As it can be seen in the attached image, QCAD toolbars may dock to a position slightly outside the visible area of the screen. After having docked there, I have not been able to move them any more. Their current position is just in the middle of the screen.

The position of the toolbars remains the same after the deinstallation of QCAD, shutting down, restarting the computer and reinstalling QCAD. I kindly ask for help.

When I zoom, the text disappears in certain zoom levels after updating to the latest version.

Text dialog (QTextEdit) strips tabs in toHtml.
If tabs can be retained, text entities could support tabs.

When placing a hole at x0 y0 there is no G00 x0 y0 in the exported G-Code.
So the first cut was made at the current position of the tool, not at x0 y0!

In the Application Preferences>Draw>Text dialog, when first opened, the Uncheck all and Check all buttons are not disabled if the Show font preview in font controls check box is checked. If you click on the Use reduced selection of fonts check box twice the buttons become disabled.

Reported is that black is saved as #00004c (dark blue)

My system/installation saves black as #4c000 (dark red)

When using single primary colors these get reduced to #4c, #7f, #99, #cc & #ff.
The threshold for that are #00, #65, #8b, #b2 & #e5

Modify - Round - Click polyline - round all corners

Wouldn’t it be nice, if selecting a block in model view would somehow highlight (just like clicking a block in the list does) the selected block in the “Block List” window?

(Feature request sounds a little harsh, enhancement proposal would seem more apt.)

it would be ideal to be able to have the option to autohide the side panel to increase the visible drawing space when working on a small screen.

Points on line: enter distance instead of number of points as a variant of the tool or as a new tool.

The modify stretch tool wants first and second corner, start and end point, then starts afresh. When I turn on restrict horizontally eg to align two points between start and end, the restriction sticks and I have to call restrict none, to be able to perform the next iteration, set the first corner then.

So, in the quest for a comfortable user interface, it was nice, if the modify stretch first/second corners parameter setting was not affected by current restrict/ortho etc. settings. Actually, that does not make any sense at all anyways, does it, a rectangle is defined by two degrees of freedom, isnt it?

To add support for drawing tangents between ellipses.

To have a ‘clean up ' tool to:

- eradicate duplicate lines
- eradicate stray points
- remove empty layers
- remove unused blocks

Perhaps with an initial dialog which allows the user to choose what they want to clean up.

Input:

1. X axis min/max or choose line (?) or center (for polar functions)
2. function: y = f(x) / polar function: r = f(a)

I think it would be nice to have the possibility to decide a fixed Text and Dimension (inclusive Arrows) height what is not affected by the Print scale. That means: If I have a given height of 3,5mm it will always be printed with 3,5mm - no matter what the scale for the printing is.
Yes, I see also the problem that I could run in space problems after I twitch to the Print preview - but that will also happen when I change the Text hight in the preferences for a 5:1 printing.
Maybe this Feature Request doesn’t looks important if you are usually working with Metric Units but if you have to handle Imperial Units then it is a pain in the back to make always the calculation to get the same heights.
Try it by your self; 3,5mm = 0.137795” = 1”:1” Now I like to print it in 1”:256” ops - to small - ok 1”:64” ... no, to big, maybe 1”:128” .......and QCad can’t remember the previously numbers.

Additional Export function for export/import into 3D Programs like Sketchup etc. (file types like .dae, .3ds, .ddf, .skp).

To produce 2D templates for all sorts of projects.

To add a Plot Stamp option for printing, to have options to print file name, date , time etc...

It is nice that I can scale or rotate a block - but right now I see also a big plus in a kind of locking function for Blocks.
It would be nice to have a “locked” option ad least for the scaling of blocks.

Example: Think about Clives “Radiator ‘Cover’ screen” http://www.qcad.org/rsforum/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=2060 and how you could manipulate this screen with “scale blocked blocks”

Slow loading of drawing with huge number of block inserts (more than 10000).

Go to:
Text → Special Characters → Others → “Character Map” pops up.
Adjust Zoom to 100% = display problem (not enough space for the single character.

It would be really cool to have a Note book tool for QCAD!

For example I am often working on a draft and at the same time scribbling notes down on a separate piece of paper relating to the drawing I am working on, could be anything e.g. add a block,add a dimension etc. etc... all sorts of things to remind myself about - all related to a particular drawing.

Of course I could use any number of other programs for this but a simple dedicated tool inside QCAD (could be called the ‘QCAD scribbler ;)) would be much better, especially one that can save the notes to a particular file, then when I open up my drawing again - my notes are there too!

When working with the isometric grid (in any projection - Top, Right, Left) and drawing from ‘scratch’ as it were, without using the projection tools - I find myself using ‘Line from Angle’ the most.

It would be extreamly useful to be presented with two extra buttons when using this tool, a 30 degree button and a -30 degree button, this way I wouldn’t need to keep typing in the angle difference here.

A ' Multi ' Breakout tool or added option to the existing Breakout tool.

For example see attached image.

An option to remove all segments within a chosen boundary would be good, in my example I want to remove all the hatching within the Red circle.

So after exploding the Hatch, currently I have to remove all segments singularly!

Of course I could have placed the circle first and hatched around it - but in this and most instances it is easier to design and to produce the Hatching first and then place my circle/shapes etc.

It would be very useful to have an extra option to only detect duplicates within a user defined area.

If I use the mouse-pointer in the Scale tool I’m not able to do an inversely proportional scale.
x - y locked or unlocked doesn’t matter in combine with the mouse pointer ...
