683 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Convert Spline to Polyline tool Closed
100%
Task Description

To have a tool that could convert splines to polylines would be useful, particularly for laser cutting work where a nice steady flow is needed, otherwise you can get an erratic ‘jumpy’ movement when cutting..
Maybe a ‘two’ step procedure;
1.First convert to arc/line segments.
2. Then if needed convert to a continuous polyline.

679 QCAD (main)Bug ReportLow When drawing, a "escape" does not always cancel the las ...Closed
100%
Task Description

This problem experienced since the first beta in both Win and Linux versions.

When a function (like a line) was selected for use and one press ESC twive to get back tot he main menu, it sort of does not cancel that last function. If one wouls now press on another function (like edit or circle) QCAD goes back to the line function.

the only way to rectify this is to press Esc many times. Sometimes the process needs to be repeated more than once.

I could not yet devise a sure fire way of reproducing this, but it does seems to happen as soon as the drawing gets bigger. I could not make it work with a clean page.

Although not crippling, it does break the elegance of drawing seamlessly and is a bit frustrating..

That said, I find QCAD 3.0.0 now significanlty faster than the Betas when loading and zooming in and out.

678 QCAD (main)Bug ReportLow Text box does not accept the "enter" key Closed
100%
Task Description

Since the new QCAD 3, it is not possible any more to use “enter” in text boxes. The “enter” is always replaced by another symbol, which makes it impossible to have a long text string as a unit - like it always was in QCAD.

Could this please be fixed? It makes text control difficult.

But when exporting through the menu “File” → “PDF Export”, lines are drawn as expected!

675QCAD (main)Feature RequestLowOption for fixed Text and Dimension heights ...Assigned
0%
1 Task Description

I think it would be nice to have the possibility to decide a fixed Text and Dimension (inclusive Arrows) height what is not affected by the Print scale. That means: If I have a given height of 3,5mm it will always be printed with 3,5mm - no matter what the scale for the printing is.
Yes, I see also the problem that I could run in space problems after I twitch to the Print preview - but that will also happen when I change the Text hight in the preferences for a 5:1 printing.
Maybe this Feature Request doesn’t looks important if you are usually working with Metric Units but if you have to handle Imperial Units then it is a pain in the back to make always the calculation to get the same heights.
Try it by your self; 3,5mm = 0.137795” = 1”:1” Now I like to print it in 1”:256” ops - to small - ok 1”:64” ... no, to big, maybe 1”:128” .......and QCad can’t remember the previously numbers. ;-)

It would be nice if one could
- select
- deselect from the current selection
all entities with a specific property, for example:
- all entities which are texts
- all entities with angle === 180
- all entities with color !== red
The current property editor has the perfect gui for it. On a similar gui one could change a value there which changes the selection instead of the properties of the selected entities.

I think there would be no need for “and” or “or”, if the current selection can be reduced or extended.

656 QCAD (main)Feature RequestVery Low Data should not be in programs directory Closed
100%
Task Description

QCAD2 offered the user to specify in the program settings where these directories should be/go, and took the first one in each list as default; QCAD3 only offers to enter auxiliary library and template directories and has no provisions for defaults.

All associated data (scipts, templates, libraries, patterns, fonts) is stored under the program directory, exactly where it should not be. Windows 7 and higher default prevent modifying the programs directory by redirecting the writes.
An extra user-input during the Windows install process would be in order.

QCAD3 should offer the user to specify any and all data directories involved (including the auto save), and make it possible to specify a default for each.
This list could be initialised with the installation defaults, or default to the installation directories when empty.

Have tried exploding them in qcad etc, but nothing.

643 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Zooming mode of operation Closed
100%
Task Description

I just realized, that Zoom-in and Zoom-out (with the mousewheel) works different from graphical editors I know (as soon as drawing is larger than full screen).

Graphical editor (PSP X2 (and other too I think)):
Will make the position of the cursor the center of the drawing area. Thus allowing very fast to reposition the viewable area without changing into a move mode (Hand icon) and without the rulers on the left or down of the drawing area. The reposition is very handsome!
But this solution is only half way practical: If you use the wheel twice to zoom twice in sequence without moving the cursor, it will reposition the image twice - this double reposition is not practical at all, as the second reposition is rather random!

QCAD:
Lets the center unchanged and just zooms-in or Zooms-out.
.

My proposal:
- Zoom-in or Zoom-out around the current position of the cursor
- move this current position to the center of the screen
- move the cursor itself to the center of the screen (thus avoiding to shift the image again with a subsequent zoom-operation

  1. if the user uses a second zoom-op the new center remains mostly fixed. This would allow best of both solutions:
  2. but the user is free to make an other area of the drawing the new center if he actively moves the cursor again.

I think this would be very simple, intuitive and efficient to handle, reducing the need to reposition the drawing manually a lot.

Actually I think earlier version of graphical editors I used worked with were implemented that way.

Caveat:
I’m not an extensive CAD user. Maybe there are special requests for this type of work that are in contradiction to my idea. Maybe it would be practical to activate this type of zooming when used along with <ALT>. Hmmm - no: Allow original QCAD-zooming with <ALT>!

.

By the way:
Mouse right-click seems never assigned in QCAD. In Windows a user usually expects ‘Properties’ to be activated with right-click. But I think with the clever way you implemented this, there is no real need to change this. As the standard is already broken: Why not assign permanently a ‘Move’ (Hand icon) to ‘right-click’...

Layer ‘0’ has some special function. E.g. it can not be deleted, it will contain the data of undeleted layers.

I recommend adding some explanations: Explain the function of Layer ‘0’ as third paragraph in chapter 12 of the manual. Further it should be recommended to never use this layer for drawing.

By the way: I consider this to be better than no layer undelete. BUT: is there really not way for a true layer undelete...

Task Description

It would be useful if a file of keyboard shortcuts to commands could be loaded.

Then a set of shortcuts identical/based on the Autocad keyboard shortcuts can be loaded, making it much easier for Autocad users to migrate to your product.

There does seem to be some future functionality planned here, with the shortcut ‘scheme’ selector in Program Preferences, but for the moment ‘Qcad’ is the only option available.

This strategy is used to great effect by Draftsight (but who trusts a big company like Dassault/Solidworks...)

1. The Scrollbars for each window in the Viewports has the same size like the normal used scrollbars for windows. If you are working on a normal size Monitor it “steals” a lot of “working space”. Is there any possibility to make the scrollbars smaller or just a line to separate the windows so that I have to navigate with Keyboard and mouse?

2. I thing the Viewports and the View List belongs together - is it possible to get a button in the “View List / Tool Bar” to choose a Viewport style instead of “walking” the long way over the “Drawing preferences” Menu?
