I would suggest adding a feature Inkscape has, which is that a single middle click zooms in. This is not at the detriment of panning, since the mouse/pen (I use a Wacom tablet) doesn’t move. Right now middle click doesn’t do anything so I don’t think it should be a problem.

Another awesome and related Inkscape zooming feature is that Shift+middle click shifts to window zooming. But with the added bonus that you don’t lose the tool you’re in. Try it out on Inkscape if I’m not clear!

Win 7 32 bit QCAD 3.20.1

Ofsset of a base-line with arcs results in massive ammount of errors.
Most of them occur as a cluster of very tiny segments and are part of the offset. (zoom far in at the red circles)
Mostly they occur where the offsetted arcs should merely be trimmend pairwise.
Some occur as detached entities or as detached strings of entities very near the offset (strings not documented).
Spooks occur at opposite site when base-line is not closed.
360° curls can occur with R = Offset.
Null-entities may occur (not documented, hard to find and not able to copy).

The base-line is checked and sound and has mixed tangentially or not tangentially connected arcs.
Offsetting the mother base-line of the base in the file has similar effect but not all and/or different ones.
Also encountered with offseting polys from fonts.
Used to define pocket paths for CNC.
Detected because the CNC driver will not accept Self-crossers, Null-entities or open ends depending on the settings.

Work arround is to explode and select small entities but this does not solves the issues.
1) Choosing the tolerance large enough will detect small segments that should stay.
2) Recombining will generate new ones at the place where the main segments remain crossed.
Cleaning up the paths is a daunting process with some thousand segments for several offsets.

I assume this has an infuence on the CAM part of QCAD too unless the offset method is different.

I wanted to add a couple of toolbars to the Tool matrix via the Tool Settings application preferences but all options are greyed out (see attached screenshot). I tried with a new config file and the result is the same. Is this the expected behaviour?

‘Create From Segments’ ‘OG’ includes and admits selection of segments on locked layers.

A)
-When selecting a segment on a not locked layer it can include segments on locked layers that connect to the string. (Assumed wrong)
-A copy of the segments on the locked layer(s) are included in the polyline. (Assumed wrong)
These segments are not removed from the locked layer(s) because of their locked nature. (Intended behaviour)
eg. ‘OG’ & selecting the arc at point A in the example file. The arc is on a not locked layer.

B)
-When selecting a segment on a locked layer it will fully remove segments that connect to the string on not locked layers. (Assumed very wrong)
-Connecting segments on the locked layer(s) will not be converted to a polyline because of their locked nature. (Intended behaviour)
eg. ‘OG’ & selecting the line at point B in the example file. The cyan lines are on a locked Layer.

Both A & B can be undone.

The example is a part of the ‘Skewing project’.

QCAD fails to open a file with space or special characters in its name or in its path.
Special characters are “á”, “ç”, “Ê”, “ß”, “+” etc.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a file named with spaces or with special characters or a file inside a folder that is named with spaces or with special characters.

What happens
- Warning about import error and file is not opened

What would be the correct behavior
- The file would be opened

I have used QCAD for a long time waiting for developers to correct that issue, that happened with all versions QCAD I used.

It was a trivial behavior for programs in Windows to manipulate files and folders with spaces and special characters. That issue is like the conversion method is too old, like from MSDOS 8.3 limitations.

The people that just want to open a DXF file to work face with that issue and thinks “that QCAD does not open DXF files”, and give up using that software. I gave up in the past because that. I discovered that QCAD works fine with MSDOS 8.3 format, and I created a script to rename files and folders before opening them, but it is not for everyone.

As QCAD works well with open DXF format, I think it is a important software to eliminate DWG dependency. Also, I think it would be very simple to solve that in code and very important to correct it.

I do not know if DWG trial plugin avoid that issue.

Configure QCAD to use native file dialogs
Load file
Export file as PDF, SVG, Bitmap
File name suggested by file dialog is drawing file which means user might accidentally overwrite drawing file.

Depolyment issue with qcaddwg plugin.

Multikey shortcuts are broken in Qt.
QCAD needs its own implementation of shortcut handling which also affects shortcut configuration.

Importing or pasting a drawing which references a non-existing image crashes.

RGraphicsSceneDrawable or type image references deleted, temporary preview document through RImageData which leads to crash when trying to load the image.

Exception due to invalid include path.

The attached screenshot will make clear what the problem is:
“échelle” should be between “cotes” and “platines”, not at the bottom. “e” and “é” must be considered the same letter when ordering alphabetically.

QCad quits when you double-click a text; What’s wrong, QCad or file?

QCAD 3.21.2 x86_64 Linux crashes if I try to select any entity of the attached file. The qt4 legacy version is working fine.

I very much like the new middle mouse button zoom in/out and congratulate Andrew for implementing it so quickly but there’s an annoying delay that is necessary between successive zoom in/out actions. This is easily understood by comparing it to zooming in/out with the +/- keys. With the keyboard you can repeat zooms as quickly as the keyboard repeat rate allows; with the middle mouse button quick zooms are not possible.

RArc::splitAt() works wrong in some cases.
To reproduce execute this script:

The first case split in two arcs, but the second splits in one arc only.

I think the reason is the code in RArc::splitAt():

The RMath::getAngleDifference180() return angle between -pi and pi so absolute value should be used.

When entering block attributes in the Properties Editor, the German special characters are not displayed correctly.

Given: Template with prepared Paper Space Frame/Titleblock scale = 1:1.
Drawing 1:1
First Viewport / scale 1:1 / inserted in Paper Space = everything fine,
Second Viewport / scale 0.02 will scale the Paper respective to the new Viewport scale but the Frame/Titleblock isn’t scaled.

... can’t find Block References if the Block which contains the Block References (Attributes) isn’t selected prior with the mouse.

The Selection Filter will find the Block References regardless which block is chosen in the Block List.

Layer combo box in the property editor is not sorted.

If I insert a content from the Clipboard to the drawing a new Relative Zero Point isn’t created.
I’m not able to use e.g. a restriction regarding to the last inserted content. QCAD will use the last Relative Zero Point in the drawing even if I already inserted a content.

(The problem was also reproduced by user “Husky” so it not installation specific.)

I have a model where one of the details is as shown in attachment 1

However, when I create a viewport and display the part in the the layout the angular measurement is another. See attachment 2.

In the model it should be noted that the part displayed is a detail copied with a different scale as to Zoom in on a detail in order to put dimensions on it. It was created by copying a part of the model and pasting it back in the model but with 3x zoom.

I have also included the full .dxf file in the hope that it helps you both reproduce and fix this issue

Note: The same problem seems to also produce “ghostlines” in other viewports in the layout which is not present in the model. Removing the angular measurement also removed the ghostline. You can observe the issue by looking at layout2 and you can see a line (dimension layer) going from top right corner of the viewport towards the lower left. This line is not present in the model and appears to be some strange extension to the angular dimension the detail that is just to the top right in the model.

System:

The ruler functionality is compromised by Graphics View / Grid settings.
To show the full Ruler functionality “Automatic scale grid” has to be activated. I think that is not intended behavior.

Case: Appearance / Show rulers = activated

Application Preferences / Graphics View / Grid

on - Automatically scale grid
on - Automatically scale meta grid
off - Solid grid lines
= Rulers visible
= Graduation visible
= Labels visible

off - Automatically scale grid

Quit Menu Item disabled after opening preferences.

System: OSX 10.13.6
Qcad version: 3.21.2.0

How to repeat:

1. Open QCad
2. Open preferences dialogue “QCad Pro → Preferences”
3. Close dialogue
4. The menu item “Quit QCad Pro” is now disabled. See attached screenshot

Repeatability: 100%

When a file is opened from “File→Open Recent” on QCad Pro it gives a 100% repeatable crash if the file is on a folder synchronized with Google Drive. If the file is opened using “File→Open” instead it works as expected. See attached crash-log.

OSX specific. Does not happen on Linux with synchronized Google Drive folder

In 3.21.1, and 3.21.2 a change to a shortcut looses all previous shortcut changes.
This does not become apparent in the current session; a modified shortcut works fine together with all the previous modifications, until you close QCAD.
But-
When you re-open QCAD, the only customised shortcut available is the last one that was changed, every other customised keyboard shortcut has gone back to default.

“Drawing Preferences / General / Linetype / Scale of linetypes matches the scale of each viewport” is checked by default for new drawings, however the option is not applied until you open the “Drawing Preferences / General / Linetype” screen and click OK – no need to change anything, just opening the screen and clicking OK is sufficient.

formatValue returns “0” instead of “+0” for negative values that round up to 0 with the configured decimals.

There is a case that qcad do not detect intersection between a circle/arc and a line. Attached is an example.

Having a multi selection and at least one ‘older’ arc the startpoint indication in red of some entities might disappear.

Entities that suffer from this are:
Other arcs
Polyline
Splines

Only the ‘oldest’ arc in selection will have a startpoit indication.
Multi selection of ‘newer’ entities from the list above will not if an ‘older’ arc is part of the selection.
Deselecting de ‘older’ arcs will reveal the startpoints up to the ‘oldest’ arc.

In the file provided entities where drew in order from left to right.
Select all and start deseleting arcs from the left.

The behaviour is affected by changing the draw order property and a save/close/open.
In the second file the rightmost arc was set to draw order 7, the same as the 4th was.
After save/close/open it is renumbered to 8 and the behaviour is different as in the firts file.

Property Editor / Size adjustment for Polygon rectangle accepts no changes for Width and Height. Was perfect working till 3.21.2

Drawing with more than 4 Layout Blocks (Layout1, Layout2 etc),

Add Viewport, choose rectangle for viewport, Dialog pops up to choose a Layout Block,
I choose Layout4 - the Viewport is placed on Layout2,

next new Viewport - placed on Layout3 - the Viewport will be placed again on Layout2 ...

The coordiantes (in the lower left corner) freeze while mouse is moving. Updates as soon as the mouse is stopped.

This slows me down considerably. I have to stop, wait (too see the coordinates), move, stop, wait, move back, stop, wait, move, stop wait... This gotta be a bug?

After closing the bug notification I realised I didn’t add the DXF. My apologies for not attaching the DXF-file at hand.

Fortunately I am not the only one;

You can fix the missing G01 by replacing your file postprocessors/GCodeLaserOffsetMM.js with the attached updated file.

Since it was not attached, that makes two of us.

Anyway I have attached the DXF-file to be tested.

After regenerate selected toolpath OR regenerate all toolpath.

The result of the output is every time different.

When pushed for example 2 or 3 times this button.

Kubuntu, QCAD/CAM 3.21.3

Font Standard. Selected as ‘single line’ font for engraving with mill or laser.

While CAM Exporting as G-code Laser (Offset) MM, or as Linux CNC, Exporting gets trapped in a loop.

In Font Standard the glyph’s ? & $ @ s S Q and 2 contains unwanted Z-movements. It seems these glyphs entities are not alligned properly; endpoint last line does not meet startpoint next line; why else the Z-movements?

Could this misallignment also traps Exporting?

as I saw in the svg file and tried it, the ‘stroke-dasharray’ parameter needed (with values) to show the line same as in the editor.

Example:

If option “Preserve geometry” is activated, texts are exported at a wrong height if the drawing unit is not the same as the SVG output unit.

Most of the Chinese items cannot be shown correctly. But when I check the qm files, the translation are there and the contents are correct.

I’m using the Pro version 3.21.3.0
