1471 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | File > Open file location | Assigned
1 |
Task Description
When working with several files is normal also to work in several folders, this can be confusing, expecially in the case where there are different folders with equal file names. I propose the creation of a “Open file location”. This, probably under the main menu, “File”, when clicked would open the standard “file explorer” with the folder that contains the current file already selected. It would be quite similar to the windows 8/10 “Open file location”.

1472 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | Arc fit tool to improve large files | Assigned
|
Task Description
Large files/large entities perform bad in QCad. There are many dxf files that are created with thousand of lines that perform reasonable in other cad’s/cam’s that qcad cannot match.
One very useful tool, that could be added would help to improve qcad performance and at the same time enlarge the dxf quality (by replacing thousand of files by arcs), would be a tool called “arc fit” where, when possible and under a determined possible error margin (user selectable) creates arcs replacing the existing lines. This would improve the file work in QCad also improves CAM software that would work after QCad, that I think is important for many users.
For example, if it is needed to use qcad to generate toolpaths for letters, after exploding letters, the output is almost impossible to work due to the number of lines that are created. Having arcs instead of lines would greatly improve qcad use.

1473 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | "Partial" circular/radial dimensions | Assigned
|
Task Description
This is kind of related to FS#952, or rather a superset of it.
Consider the situation in the attached image. There is a perfectly good, albeit really shallow arc, making the radius somewhere in the vicinity of 600 millimeters, and the radial dimension being drawn accordingly.
Considering the other dimensions of the part, this is completely unusable, even to work with, really, but definitely so when it needs to be put on paper.
It would be nice to have some sort of “partial” (for my lack of a better word) radial/diametric dimensions where the dimension length can be adjusted.
Considering that this can be done with Leader, maybe a better (more generic) solution would be for Leader type dimensions to have options so they could automatically generate labels for various dimensions of a selected entity – sort of like having the Prefix/Tolerance/Scale options the other dimensions have, and have some additional fields there for selected entity and maybe dimension type (for example, radial or diametric for an arc-type entity).

Task Description
This one is a really important one for me, as currently I am doing a lot of dimension and annotation drawings. I would like to request an option to be added to the dimension settings for both drawing and application settings to be able to choose whether the dimension text is to the right or left side or over the top or underneath the dimension line. This would help tremendously when a lot of dimensions are needed!

It would be extreamly useful to have an option to either use - or not use leader lines in the standard horizontal/vertical dimension line tools, some of the drawings I’m working on need the ‘standard’ looking dimensions with leader lines and some don’t. its a real pain to have to select - explode and delete all the leaders I don’t need.
Hoping for an option

When using the info tools, like the point to point measure it would be useful to be able to select a scale as well.
For example, when I scale a drawing say to 1:20, when working on the scaled drawing I can measure accurately with the measure tool in 1:20 also, without having to keep refering to the 1:1 drawing.

hi,
I miss one Offset option to use an offset indirectly related to the used entity. Right now I have to work with further construction lines and trim, divide, delete etc. tools to archive what I need. Basically an offset as a ray would be enough but unfortunately we have no control of the Ray orientation. This said - it would be nice to have an infinitive line added to the “Offset Polyline Segment” option to be able to use an Offset as construction line which is not only reflecting the shape of the source.

Task Description
Source: https://www.qcad.org/rsforum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4752
According to the changelog for version 3.9.3 the info tools and coordinate display are tied to the current drawing dimensions. For much of my use I prefer to have the dimensions format different. The main reason is that my customers want to see the format in fractions, but when I am drawing I’d rather see the decimal format to make sure what I am drawing is accurate. So I’d really be interested in seeing a separate full configuration of the display and info coordinates.

Task Description
Hi,
unfortunately I need to use from time to time different Units in a drawing. It works nice with the Scale possibility but to keep my drawing readable I need to label then the DIM accordingly. Sadly I don’t have a Postfix option so I work with a workaround what means I use <>”, or <>’ and <>mm in the Prefix field. If I then terminate the DIM tool and start it again I will loose my settings except the Scale Factor.
May I ask for an additional Postfix option or/and a remember functionality of those fields?

1588 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | "hole" realisation | Closed
|
Task Description
Trying to design PCB with QCad (as hobby ;) I found an inconvenience with routing tracks through holes: I need end one line, snapped to the one edge of contact pad and start new line from other side of the pad, otherwise if line goes through the hole and covers it, hole disappears or becomes damaged; or I need to clean each hole of track parts before printing.
so, subject is: to define a certain area of white or background colour, so if any object (line or other shape) intersects it, it will be just invisible inside this area. they may still be visible, say, in draft mode.
I’ve been thinkig about simpliest way to make it, but not sure. Maybe it can be an additional property of the hatch, or it can be specific “background” solid colour, which can be applied to the hatch (apply this colour to other kind of object is not a good idea).
Then contact pad can be defined as shape with smaller round hatch inside to designate hole, so we can route lines, snapping them to the hole centers, not caring about clearing these holes later of little pieces of tracks.
Maybe it can be usefull :) Thanks for your great work!

1625 | QCAD (main) | Feature Request | Low | Copy Layer | Closed
|
Task Description
Hi,
often I’m in the situation that I have to create an additional Layer mostly based on the settings from an already existing Layer. Just a question of organization. This new Layer has then everything identical except the name and one(?) Attribute. This could be that only the color or the Line weight deviates.
Example:
Existing Layer
Layer name: Lot 47 area existing
Attributes
Color: Red
Lineweight: 0.35
Linetype: Dashed
New Layer
Layer name: Lot 47 area proposal
Attributes
Color: Blue
Lineweight: 0.35
Linetype: Dashed
Unfortunately if done manually it happens in an blink of an eye that the human imperfection (me!) makes a mistake and (e.g.) a “Center (.5x)” finds it way into the Linetype Field instead of a “Center (.2x)” ....
The workaround for a few User is to use in cases like this the Property Editor / General Property and customize single Attributes. In my opinion the first step to lose the control over your own drawing ...
A “Copy Layer” / Copy Layer Attributes” function would speed up this task and eliminate to a minimum the “human imperfection” factor.
I could imagine that a right click (like copy block) on the Layer triggers the “Add Layer” function and the dialog is already prefigured with the Settings of the Source Layer ...... ready for editing. The new Layer itself is “empty” like any other new Layer.

BUG: the exploded lines have all the same drawing ids the old entities had, a consequence of this is that when one explodes and then exports to dxf file the line order get’s scrambled wildly the exported order is “random”!

Hi.
I’m working currently a lot with files coming from rhino. Qcad can open them properly any also most operations on them work as usual - except the selection methods.
box select from upper left to lower right works as usual. double click to select all connected entities is broken. (only one entity is selected). box select from lower right to upper left does not select entities touching the selection box. (nothing is selected)
on mac os nothing is selectable with single click. on linux single click sometimes fails (nothing is selected after clicking on a line).
thanks for looking into this :)
