834 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Merge Line from 2 Points and Line from Angle Tools Closed
Task Description

Add the options from the Option toolbar the Line from Angle tool to the Options toolbar of Line from 2 Points.

As long the user does not set a value for Angle or Length the tool acts just like Line from 2 Points. During this time the values are automatically filled in corresponding to the line preview on canvas.
Once the user enters a value to into the field for Angle or Length this value is fixed and only the other one can be modified on the canvas.
Of course the user can also define both values by typing in the values.

835 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow And shortcut to change value in Option toolbar Closed
Task Description

Pressing TAB should directly activate the corresponding text-field if a tool is activated where a numerical value can be set in the Option toolbar.
Pressing TAB again should select the next text-field in the Option toolbar.

If the last text-field in the toolbar is activated pressing TAB should deactivate the text-field. Pressing TAB one more time after this should again activate the first text-field.

844 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow user defined line styles and weights Closed
Task Description

It would be nice to have the possibility to design and use your own line styles, in addition to the built-in ones.
Also nice to have are user defined line weights, in addition to the built-in ones.

845 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Scale factor for dimensions Closed
Task Description

Introduce scale factor for linear dimension entities.

Original request was:

It would be nice to have the possibility to enter dimensions in the form of a formula and still show up as a ‘normal’ dimension.
This would greatly help in creating details in a different scale (say, 5:1) than the rest of the drawing.
Creating details is quite often necessisary for small objects (when lines are too close together to distinguish at 1:1) if the drawing must be legible to mere humans...

Now one must calculate and manually enter all dimensions for the detail after scaling (and re-calculate every time something gets modified), this is quite error prone.
Exploding the dimensions before scaling is not a real option: the arrowheads and texts then get scaled, too, wich is undesirable.
Scaling back, modifying and then repeating the process is also not quite on the mark: small errors creep in due to finite precision in the calculations made during the scaling.

855 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Scale dimension on/off option ... Closed
Task Description

QCAD 3.1.5 - has a new “Dimensioning Scale adjustment option” (Property editor/Linear Factor). NICE!!! :-)

What means - we are now able to change the dimension scale for existing dims!

My Feature request refers to new dimensions and I think it would be perfect to have a “Scale Factor - On/Off Option” for all Dim Tools.

That would bring us in the position to copy / scale a part of our drawing for a detail view and we could just use us usual the dimensioning tools (with a scale factor) for the dimensioning task ....

856 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Option to create a polyline from 'selected' entities on ...Closed
Task Description

It would be useful to have an additional option in the polyline tool set to be able to create a polyline from selected entities only, without the need first for preparatory drafting measures.
Basic example attached.
You see here I want to create a polyline from only the selected lines, thus leaving the rest as separate line segments.

858 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Circle/Arc tangential on entities ... Closed
Task Description

I’m not sure but if this is a duplicate please delete!

Feature Request:
It would be nice to have a tool what will help to draw tangential circles and arcs between other entities.

I imagine this tools with a three entities (circles, lines) selection or two entities plus a radius.

869 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow  Support for block attributes Closed
Task Description

I would like to use QCAD at work.
Since the drawing using block attributes (ATTRIB) is not displayed correctly, I am troubled.
Please give me correspondence by all means.

880 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow New Ellipse tools Closed
Task Description

It would be good to have additional ellipse tools that could produce an ellipse:
Tangential to four given sides (closed like a Quadrilateral) or sperate sides and to 4 given coordinate points.
see snapshot for the idea.

It would be useful to have an additional line tool that could be drawn tangent to an existing circle and perpendicular to a line.
see screenshot for the idea:

882 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Repeat last tool button Closed
Task Description

A ‘Repeat last tool’ button would be useful.
When one has fully cancelled all operations, sometimes it would be convenient to have the option to have a repeat of the last tool again...I’m thinking that a simple button could do this a bit like the reset/idle button.

884 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Tool for copying/pasting selected entities along a path Closed
Task Description

Not sure how complicated this one might be to develop/implement ?

But a tool for copying/pasting entities along a given path would be great. In the attached snapshot you can see what I am trying to acheive - to copy/paste the brick along a wall contour. A dedicated tool for doing something like this would be great...sure I can do it with the tools provided in QCAD already but it sure would make life so much easier if there was a tool specific for this kind of thing.
I am actually working on some ‘real’work projects with these requirements and it does take a bit of time to get correct!

Or maybe an additional Points tool option to plant points along a curve would be good!

897 QCAD (main)Feature RequestVery Low New arc tool Closed
Task Description

While constructing around the lack of “Line tangent to a circle, perpendicular to a line” ( FS#881 ) which I hereby second :)), it struck me that it might be useful to have a tool that finds the center point of an existing circle/ellipse, or possibly more generally, the center point of an existing circular/elliptical arc.

916 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow SVG export: make zero line width behaviour configurable Closed
Task Description

Somewhere in the 3.1 series the SVG exporter (both precise and PG) started to make lines that are zero (0) width in CAD 0.01 (@scale 1:1) points wide in exported files (0.1 @scale 1:10). I use such lines to constrain exported files to a common size and rather not have them show. In my view, this is a regression, as there is no reason for changing line weight, isnt it? If I wanted the lines to have weight, I’d draw them with a weight.

Task Description

A window with a drawing that has unsafed changes gets an asterisk appended to its name in the tab title. When there too many tabs the title gets shortened and the star cannot be seen then.

It was nice, when the star remained visible, after or in front of the ellipses.

Also it was nice, when the “windows” menu would mark files with changes in the same way.

945 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Stretch tool for blocks ... Closed
Task Description

It would be nice if we could use the Stretch tool also on blocks.

There are so many possibility’s to build a really good (time-saving) block-list /library with preassembled parts but if I have always to explode / ruin the block to use the stretch tool doesn’t helps the productivity.

968 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Option to divide by half numbers etc.. Closed
Task Description

Would it be possible to change the Divide tool, so that one can divide by e.g. 4.5 or 7.75 etc...? Instead of just whole numbers, like it is at present.

 975 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Search/Replace accomplished info ... Closed
Task Description

It would be nice to get a status information after the use of the “Search/Replace” tool.

Something like: “5 matches found and replaced”,
no “matches found”.

It helps allot to get an Idea what happens in your drawing. Right now the tool window will just disappear and you have no idea about any success.

978 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow "Frequently used" items for text Closed
Task Description

Just floating an idea, recently I’ve had to use the diameter symbol many times in texts. At this moment it’s a chore, as that usually means browser, look for a page with symbol in it, copy, paste.

I wonder if the text entry could have some sort of a box for “frequently used” characters (or even phrases, or whatnot, but I presume a handful special characters that everyone can tailor to their needs would already be a huge plus)? Like, a 3×3 to 5×5 matrix below the Alignment panel or something along these lines.

981 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow New tool: Ellipse - Equidistant Closed

1003 QCAD/CAMFeature RequestLow QCAD Community Edition: add unicode support for layer n ...Closed
Task Description

Community version (still on FBSD only), so dxflib. I suspect the culprit is dxflib.

I have created layers and blocks and whatnot with (hungarian) accented characters in their names.
Apparently (according to the Internet, as evidenced probably most glaringly by usa.autodesk.com /adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=7586582&linkID=9240617) the R15 DXF version assumes single-byte character sets being used. Quick grepping the DXF2000 mentions “String (255-character maximum; less for Unicode strings)” (Group Code Value types), so it may be a false track...

Anyway, the DXF file written does have strings converted to single-byte encoding, but it seems it’s always ANSI-1252. When the output encoder encounters a character that is not representable in this one, it will use a literal question mark.

Actual case, I have a block with the name

106 egypólusú váltókapcsoló jelzőfénnyel

Of this, “ő” (U+0151) is not representable in ANSI-1252, so what gets written to the dxf is (non-ASCII shown in hex)

106 egyp<f3>lus<fa> v<e1>lt<f3>kapcsol<f3> jelz?f<e9>nnyel

Note the literal question mark.

Now the problem is this is an irreversible operation but the result is perfectly valid ANSI-1252, so upon opening the file again, I will get a block named

106 egypólusú váltókapcsoló jelz?fénnyel

IMHO the ideal resolution is to

  1. Have a preference for the export code page (and use it, too, circumstances permitting)
  2. Iff this is not set (or set to a default “Use system locale to determine” or something), use a look-up table to take a good guess (like old QCAD2 qcadlib/src/engine/rs_system.cpp:QCString RS_System::localeToISO())
  3. If the output encoder encounters a character that is not representable in the target code page, throw an error with an option to ignore the error (and keep using question marks, but then this must have been acknowledged by the user so not silent problem anymore), pick a new output code page, whatever else

This all assuming the R15 doesn’t actually depends hardly on ANSI-1252 and ANSI-1252 only. In that case, option #3 would still be nice.

Most Western European languages (and English) are not affected by this as ANSI-1252 has most of them covered, but a little to the east, a little to the south, a little to the north, and it does make a bit of a difference :)

1006 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Making zoom in / out speed configurable Closed
2 Task Description

Although this report is specific to Magic Mouse on OS-X Mountain Lion, since mice are a fairly common commodity across all platforms, I suspect this may be a more common issue across multiple platforms. The issue is that with my Magic Mouse, when I zoom into or out of the drawing by dragging my finger forward or backward on the mouse (equivalent of rolling the scroll wheel of a mechanical mouse), the zoom keeps zooming (in either direction) LONG after I have stopped moving my finger! Now, I do have my scroll speed set high because I have a large monitor and like to get around on it fast. But QCAD is the only application that does this exaggerated scrolling, so there must be some missing conversion or time constant issue going on here. I could change the speed of my mouse and that would likely fix it: in QCAD. But then all my other apps would be too slow with the mouse. Maybe there needs to be a custom setting in the Preferences that allows to user to set the mouse speed for just inside QCAD. But I suspect its more just a mouse speed parameter conversion error.

1007 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Making zoom in / out direction configurable Closed
Task Description

Maybe I missed it, but there does not appear to be a Preference selection for changing the zoom direction. The default is opposite the way it is on other programs and I would like to change it to be consistent between all my programs. My other programs provide this ability so I suppose I could change all of them, but that appears Orwellian on QCADs part.

1012 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Make threshold from which arcs are approximated as line ...Closed
Task Description

Tried to draw a guitar and when drawing top arch (R=10600 mm), I noticed that when arc length is less than 5% (in ths case less than 530 mm) of arcs radius arc appears totally straight both in screen and print.
Data is stored right, details are right, reference points are right, snap on entity goes right, but the line appears totally straight.

I have iMac mid 2011 with Mavericks and latest Qcad.

1015 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow To add Point Style options Closed
2 Task Description

I use points in my drawing s often for referencing and construction purposes, I would like to request that in the application settings some options could be added for point styles.
For example:
Style - cross with circle or other styles useful for temporary construction referencing.
The option to set the size either relative to the screen or indeed in absolute units.

1024 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Manage the layers of Inkscape Closed
Task Description

When we want to import a document SVG of Inkscape, copies are not managed.
All the elements contained in the various copies find themselves in one and the same copy 0 in QCad-Prof.

It is necessary to convert the file SVG in DXF before being able to use him(it) in QCad.
It is impractical.

1053 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Part Library: support for custom properties Closed
Task Description

If a part library file contains a block with block name==file name, QCAD could directly insert the file contents instead of grouping it into a new block with block name==file name.
This would allow part library items to contain block references with custom properties which would be copied into the drawing on insertion.

1061 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Polygonal / Rectangular Marquee Tool ? Closed
Task Description

Defining hatch areas at present is time consuming as you have to create an additional layer and amend as necessary to create a boundary. What would speed up this process is a multi function tool to create a closed boundary line that could be used for fills and hatches or to delete specific areas from a drawing. This tool could have the following sub menu:

* Polygonal Selection
* Rectangular Selection (Use with modifier key to keep square)
* Circular / Oval Selection (Use with modifier key to keep round)

Each tool could have the following options:

1. New selection
2. Add to selection
3. Delete from selection
4. Intersect with selection

This tool would be invaluable for speeding up work-flow, simple actions like trimming lines could be achieved with a simple selection and backspace to delete etc. Please give this some consideration, this could be a great amendment to QCAD !

1071 QCAD (main)Feature RequestVery Low (Bitmap) scaling convenience option Closed
1 Task Description

This can be done as is in QCAD today, but a quick convenience UI bit would be much appreciated.

Suppose you are working off a bitmap image (transcribing old scan, or you got your apartment’s floor plan like this, because, uh, what tenant needs DXF). It has dimensions markers and everything, but fat chance it’ll be to actual CAD scale after importing.

So, to bring it to scale, you measure between two tick marks on the scale, compute ratio based on measurement and what’s written on the dimension line, and do a scale operation (you can also have QCAD compute the ratio by using math expression, whatever).

That works fine.

A purely just for convenience function to do that would be much appreciated: pick two points, enter what the actual distance between them is, poof bam, appropriate scaling operation is applied.

As a twist, there could be some other bitmap skewing options, like “the points I’ve selected are on a horizontal/vertical line/at an angle of X degrees, then the bitmap would also be applied this transform.

1072 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Resolve Relative paths on command line Closed
Task Description

I have aliased qcad to run it from terminal. There is a small glitch when opening a file from a different location using relative path names:

$ alias qcad
alias qcad='/opt/qcad-3.6.0-pro-linux-x86_64/qcad'

$ cd /a
$ qcad some.dwg &
$ cd /b
$ qcad other.dwg

Import Error is shown:
> Can't open file
> /a/other.dwg.
> File is empty.

$ qcad /b/other.dwg # absolute path works

$ readlink /proc/pid-of-qcad/cwd

Qcad somewhere stores the path, from where it is first launched. The next “launch” will not use the next location but refer to the first one when constructing the full path name of the file name in the argument.

Maybe that can be easily improved (the message is wrong too).

1079 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Custom line weights in 0.001mm steps Closed
Task Description

The user can choose from 24 different line weights at the moment.
Unfortunately, 0.1mm is not among them.

Please add the possibility (add a textbox) to set any line weight from 0 to max in 0.001mm steps.

1094 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Support OS X 10.9.x (Maverick) Full Screen Pattern Closed
Task Description

It would be nice if the OS X Pro version could support the standard OS X full screen pattern in the same way as native OS X applications.

With this I mean that applications in full screen will create a temporary new desktop as long as they are in full screen mode.

1096 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow SVG import: support scale transforms Closed
1 Task Description

Add support for scale transforms in SVG import.

Original report:

When importing an SVG created with Inkscape, one of the elements (rectangle) is shifted (mirrored?) to the left.
The example (back.svg) is appended. If you open it with Inkscape, you see the rectangle should be above the “USB” label.

My impression is that the sign of the X coordinate is swapped for some reason. At least if I mirror it
using two points on the Y axis, it seems to appear where it should be.

Apart from this, also the dimensions are wrong after import. In the original SVG, the outer shape is 144.3mm wide.
This is also visible in the header of the SVG:

However, after importing to QCad, the width is measured as 40.7247. This is a puzzling factor of 3.5433 which doesn’t look
like metric/imperial conversion issue but like a complete misinterpretation of the sizes/units used in the SVG.

1125 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Property Editor / Total angle of an arc Closed
1 Task Description

if I have an arc and use the Property Editor to get the Geometrical information I always miss the total angle of the arc.

Yes - I have the Start and the End angle but to get the Total angle I have to draw construction lines to be able to use the Angular Dim or Info angle tool /or I need to use a pocket calculator ...

It would be nice to have this calculated by QCAD - I assume it can’t be that difficult to design an extra field which will display, based on the start and end angle, the total angle of an arc.

What do you think?
