Task Description

Would it be possible to have the choice to dock or not dock toolbars - in other words keep them floating, an additional option in the tool settings could be added?

1172QCAD (main)Feature RequestLowPrint Preview - Add 'Place Paper Option' toolAssigned
0%
Task Description

Often in print preview I need to move the paper around and position it with the ‘Move Paper Position’ tool, which is useful, but what would be an additional extra useful option would be a ‘Place Paper Here’ tool.

Then I could simply use this tool first and then use the ‘Move Paper Position’ tool afterwards to fine tune things!

If you look at the attached image you will see that in this students file they have got their drawing spread out all over the place:(

Thanks in advance.

1200 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Embed fonts in exported PDF Closed
100%
Task Description

This is not the same as  FS#782 .

Is it possible to have referenced fonts embedded in the exported PDF files somehow? Sort of like producing PDF/A (not really, but at least with the fonts referenced being included)?

I have played around a little with QPrinter::setFontEmbedding(), but it didn’t really produce any results (pro or con). I am not sure it can even be done, as looking around there are numerous references (rather questions and RFEs) for creating PDF/A-3 format PDFs with Qt, but I am yet to bump into a resolution. I almost have a feeling that generating PDF/A-1 files is possible, but I have not found any definite guidelines or ways to that either.

The use case is obvously when you don’t have a particular font installed on the system you are printing your designs on, for example.

1220 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Batch print multiple jobs. Closed
100%
Task Description

It would be great to be able select a print style (Page size, printer), and apply it to a batch of .dxf files to do a batch print of a multi-drawing job with separate files. I used this feature a ton in ACAD in my previous job.

1226 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Print selection Closed

Task Description

Add the possibility of printing a part of the drawing. This is vital on large building plans.

1227 QCAD (main)Feature RequestVery Low AutoCAD skin Closed
100%
Task Description

QCAD has a lot of features and buttons, probably more that the autocad I’ve been using. Therefore the learning curve is too slow. It would be a great boost for the program to have the possibility of having an Autocad skin, and it will attract many new users.

1228 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Restore Fullscreen state on load Closed
100%
Task Description

If you close QCAD while it is set to full screen it will save the window size and position but not the full screen state so when you restart it will appear as though it is full screen but part of the window will be hidden by the start menu.

1229QCAD (main)Feature RequestLowLoad last project at startAssigned
0%
Task Description

When starting QCAD it will open a new, untitled, page causing me to close that, click through the saving option to discard changes and then load up the project i’m working on. It would be nice to have the option for the program to start with the last used project.
I checked the application preferences to see if this option was already possible as it’s common with other applications but couldn’t find it. In ‘Startup’ (the obvious place for it) there was only an option for the splash screen.

1230QCAD (main)Feature RequestLowFile > PDF Export / SVG Export: export layersAssigned
0%
Task Description

Dear Andrew, just in case you should ever run out of ideas for enhancements; As an advisor I sometimes get PDF files and recently, some CAD drawings contained layers, which is kind of nifty to reduce the clutter.

Sadly though, qprinter/qpainter seem to be unaware of OCG (Optional Content Groups, the PDF jargon for layers) at the moment, so my plea is for the back burner now. Probably in SVG though it can be done? Yet that is of a little less use, maybe…

1232 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Command Line: ignore leading spaces Closed
100%
Task Description

Many times, after pressing the space bar to access the command line, accidentally an space character is added at the start of the line. It’s very difficult to see it.

The result is an error like this:

Invalid coordinate or distance ' @20,20'.

The request is for the command line parser to just ignore leading spaces.

Thank you.

1233QCAD (main)Feature RequestLowTab key to cycle between selected objectsAssigned
0%
Task Description

I think it’s a useful adition and makes it easy to select objects that are overlapped. I know there is a selection filter, but sometimes this is faster and/or all the objects share the same type and such things.

If I remember correctly, Inkscape has this behaviour.

Thanks.

1235 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Remove focus from command line after command execution Closed
100%
Task Description

I find it a bit annoying that after executing a command by issuing some points in the command line, the command line retains the focus.

This means an extra Escape key press, and sometimes my hotkeys are just sent in plain text to the command line if I forget to escape.

Something like this:

- hotkey: ss (stretch)
- click for first point
- click for second point
- click for reference
- hotkey: eh (restrict horizontal)
- spacebar
- enter distance by hand
- return (execute)

At this point, if I want to repeat another “stretch” command, I have to disable the horizontal restriction by hand (en), and start again.

The problem is that if I forget to press the Escape key, my “en” command is issued in the command line, and I keep looking at the screen because the hotkey was not issued.

What would be desirable IMHO after a command execution would be to reset any restrictions applied and remove focus from command line.

1254QCAD (main)Feature RequestLowAdd drop object along a path with automatic trimAssigned
0%
Task Description

Add drop object along a path with automatic trim.

  1. The object can be a selection before or after selecting the tool, an entity or a block.
  1. The path can be another entity from a start point to an end point.
  1. Dropping can be made on one side or the other (like in other tools depending on the side of the cursor), with a choice of miroring the object or not.
  1. The number of drops or the distance between can be selected.
  1. The distance can be between a control point of the object or its sysmetry axis or border.
  1. The dropping direction can be selected too.
  1. The droping depth can be constrained : all control points have passed the path, or one of them. Alternatively, replace control points by an entity belonging to the object.

Exemple of use case : equidistant drills in a curved rail. The dropping depth constraint enables for example to ensure a drill has a minimal depth when not orthogonal to a plan.

Task Description

Change a quote value modify the drawing + link quotes with entities

In other words, makes quotes editable AND linked to entities.

  • Today in the properties, the value is read only. Being able to edit the value would modify the linked entity properties to fit the new quote.
  • Changing a property would change the linked quotes accordingly. Today, if I change a circle diameter which is quoted, the quote remain where it was and is no more relevant.
1256 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Full QCAD version number in DXF file Closed
100%
Task Description

Currently, DXF files from QCAD contain the dxflib version number used to write them, but not the QCAD version number. It would be nice to have the full QCAD version number and build information saved in the DXF file, in case it is necessary to reconstruct the environment that was used to generate a particular file.

1262QCAD (main)Feature RequestLowMissing some kind of "QCAD is still working" indicator.Assigned
0%
Task Description

If I have to do some kind of intense tasks like converting a previous Polyline, which is now exploded to lines (maybe a couple hundred thousand short lines) back to a polyline (Polyline/Create from Segments) QCAD needs time to do that. In this “working time” I can’t see any indicator that QCAD is working. Not a Hourglass on the mouse or some other indicator. I have just the feeling: Nothing is going on right now ...

It would be nice to have some kind of visual info that QCAD is working.

1297 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow Add context menu Closed
100%
Task Description

Optionally show context menu when right-mouse button is clicked on top of entity.

Originally from FS#1111: “Furthermore, the two named applications show that it’s easily possible to combine dragging (mouse pressed) and context menu (mouse clicked) on the same mouse button.
Providing a context menu would increase the usability especially for people used to Windows default applications.
I.e. deleting, copying, creating polylines from segments, breaking up blocks/polylines would be functions I’d find useful in a context menu.”

Therefore, Drawing Preferences should start with the file format choice field;

 File Format: R.......

Drawing should be opened and saved in that format without any question. Please.

Would it be possible like in AutoCAD and Draftsight, to copy (from CSV or TXT) into the command line of qcad a table with
vectorpoint to built up a Spline in QCAD ?

Sample:
Spline
10.5,10(LR+CR)
20.8,20.4(LR+CR)

and so on

this text would than paste into the command line, and works like a macro.

Will be very helpful to generate a Spline where the vectorpoint had been calculated with for example “Excel”

1407QCAD (main)Feature RequestLowSplines: add support for knot weights, start-, end tang...Assigned
0%
Task Description

Attached DWG/DXF files are incorrectly read by QCAD.
They contain splines drawn using ZWCAD and saved as DWG/DXF version 2000.
Above splines are polylines created with autolisp routine which converts spline to polyline, so you can see how splines should actually be drawn.

First spline is created with fit points: 2,2 4,4 6,2
Then copied and applied weight of 2 on central control point.
Then copied again and applied weight of 0.5 on central control point.

Second spline is created with fit points: 6,2 8,4 10,2 with vertical start and end tangent.
Then copied and applied fit tolerance of 1 for fit points.

Third spline is created with fit points: 10,2 12,4 14,2 with horizontal start and end tangent.

Fourth and fifth spline are correctly drawn by QCAD.

1439 QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow New CAM feature proposal: Cutplan (nesting) Closed
100%
Task Description

After designing one ore more parts you may want to produce them.

Maybe it is a flat part, made out of copper sheet metal. You need several copies of the part and you wonder how you can arrange them on your sheet metal in a clever way, so that you end up with as little waste as possible.

And here software could really speed up the process. It would be a great addition to QCADs CAM abilities if it would be able to produce a cutplan.

Enter the size of the sheet metal (or whatever material), select the part(s), enter number of copies and let QCAD find the best way(s) of arrangement. Additional parameters could be clearance between parts and border margin.

1464QCAD (main)Feature RequestLowOption button to access finer grid to snapAssigned
0%
Task Description

Hi,

I use eagle cad for pcb designs and I like its ability to snap to finer snap to grid when pressing option button (ALT in windows).
I am fine with auto grid setting, however, it would be good to also have a way to access finer grid when pressing down option button.

For example, when zoomed out, grid is 100mm apart.
When pressing down on the option button (ALT in windows), grid switches to finer 10mm.
This will save me time, zooming in to access finer grid to snap to.

1472QCAD (main)Feature RequestLowArc fit tool to improve large filesAssigned
0%
Task Description

Large files/large entities perform bad in QCad. There are many dxf files that are created with thousand of lines that perform reasonable in other cad’s/cam’s that qcad cannot match.

One very useful tool, that could be added would help to improve qcad performance and at the same time enlarge the dxf quality (by replacing thousand of files by arcs), would be a tool called “arc fit” where, when possible and under a determined possible error margin (user selectable) creates arcs replacing the existing lines.
This would improve the file work in QCad also improves CAM software that would work after QCad, that I think is important for many users.

For example, if it is needed to use qcad to generate toolpaths for letters, after exploding letters, the output is almost impossible to work due to the number of lines that are created. Having arcs instead of lines would greatly improve qcad use.

1473QCAD (main)Feature RequestLow"Partial" circular/radial dimensionsAssigned
0%
Task Description

This is kind of related to FS#952, or rather a superset of it.

Consider the situation in the attached image. There is a perfectly good, albeit really shallow arc, making the radius somewhere in the vicinity of 600 millimeters, and the radial dimension being drawn accordingly.

Considering the other dimensions of the part, this is completely unusable, even to work with, really, but definitely so when it needs to be put on paper.

It would be nice to have some sort of “partial” (for my lack of a better word) radial/diametric dimensions where the dimension length can be adjusted.

Considering that this can be done with Leader, maybe a better (more generic) solution would be for Leader type dimensions to have options so they could automatically generate labels for various dimensions of a selected entity – sort of like having the Prefix/Tolerance/Scale options the other dimensions have, and have some additional fields there for selected entity and maybe dimension type (for example, radial or diametric for an arc-type entity).

When using the info tools, like the point to point measure it would be useful to be able to select a scale as well.

For example, when I scale a drawing say to 1:20, when working on the scaled drawing I can measure accurately with the measure tool in 1:20 also, without having to keep refering to the 1:1 drawing.
