Re: Best file format for saving drawings

After reading the article Husky posted and the other posts, I'd venture a guess that DXF is the best format to use. That is the format I have been using. I was just wondering as a few of my files have grown to more than a mega-byte in size, but as Husky pointed out, disk space is cheap and th...

Best file format for saving drawings

I know that the format can be dictated by the use of the file, but I was wondering what format others like/dislike to use and why as QCAD supports multiple formats. The DWG format is about 15% of the size of the DXF for the file on which I am working, so I will be inclined to use it for space saving...

Andrew,
Do you think I should try to compile the community version to see if the problem goes away? I've never done it, but I'm willing to try it.

Interface problem on Ubuntu 9.04

This problem occurs the same on all of my computers, Dell 1501 laptop, Intel DG35EC & DG31GL motherboards. All with up-to-date Ubuntu 9.04. I made a fresh install on the DG31GL, thinking that the problem would go away. It persists on the new install. This problem started at some point after upgradin...

1. Use 'ia' to inquire about the angle difference between the two objects.
2. Select the object to align
3 Use 'ro' to rotate the object the appropriate number of degrees.

That's the only way to do it with QCAD that I know of.

Andrew, I've used this feature in another CAD program to tryout multiple furniture arrangements. A print with the furniture rotated to the proper orientation in an office layout is more easily understood. In that context of using CAD, freehand rotation would be very suitable. The other program utili...

Should I always use a radius a little less for the arc end point entry? i.e.; R=1235 so I enter @1230<-49.59.

Thanks, Andrew. I see what is going on, now. The angle is not relative to my start point. I started with a line going from lower left to upper right. I wanted an arc with a center 1235 to the upper left of that line. I understand now that the resulting arc is relative to QCAD's zero line, not the an...

I want a radius of 1235 and 1 degree of arc. I type 'an', select the line, move the mouse to the side I want center on, press 'spacebar', enter '@1235<1' and QCAD draws an arc of a little more than 6.9778 degrees based on the length of the arc produced.

How can I enter the End Angle on the command line for this type of arc?

Is there a way to set the ordinate 0,0 to a relative location before drawing dimensions so we don't have to move it after drawing the dimensions?

Set your line weights to something appropriate for the scale at which you are printing. I use .35mm for 1=1 scale printing of small parts. The line weight is scaled with the scale of the print out.
